The new year is upon us with lots to look forward to - here are what could be the Top 5 highlights of the new year.

Eurovision 2023: Liverpool

Liverpool hosts the Eurovision contest The location will serve as the 67th host of the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of last year's winners, Ukraine. On Saturday, May 13, the grand final will be held in the Liverpool Arena, where nations from all over the world will present their preferred bands and performers. Who will triumph this time around?

Charles III is crowned as king.

The nation will commemorate King Charles III's coronation on Saturday, May 6. The Archbishop of Canterbury will preside over the coronation ceremony, which will be held at Westminster Abbey in London. The king and Camilla, the Queen Consort, will both be formally crowned. On Monday, May 8, there will be an additional bank holiday for everyone to celebrate the momentous occasion.


In April, the London Marathon is back.

The renowned marathon has returned to April on April 23 after spending the previous three years in October due to the Covid epidemic. To raise money for charity, thousands of runners will take to the streets of London, many sporting outrageous fancy dress to amuse onlookers. On September 10, The Great North Run, labelled the biggest and best half marathon in the world, will also be back.

June's Glastonbury Festival

The 2023 headliner at Glastonbury is officially confirmed as Elton John. Year of Culture in Leeds

This January marks the start of a year-long festival honouring Leeds' many cultural offerings.

Highlights include "Smeaton 300," a fantastical mobile observatory inspired by Leeds-born astronomer John Smeaton, which will tour the city from June to December; and "1001 Stories," which will tell the life stories of Leeds' senior citizens by Leeds Playhouse and The Performance Ensemble in April. Events will take place all year long.
