The proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) is a type of long-nosed monkey with reddish-brown hair and is one of two species in the genus Nasalis. Proboscis monkeys are endemic to the island of Borneo/Kalimantan, Indonesia, which are found in mangrove forests, swamps and coastal forests. The main feature that distinguishes the proboscis monkey from other monkeys is the long and large nose which is only found in the male species.
Proboscis monkeys are the fauna of the identity of the province of South Kalimantan. This animal is known by various names, for example the proboscis monkey or long-nosed monkey in English, kera bekantan in Malaysian, bangkatan for Brunei, while the local people also call it pika, bahara bentangan, raseng, and kahau.
