00:00 Hey guys, today is all about how to install your own box braids.
00:06 Yes, I mean like a pro.
00:08 When I get done with you guys in this tutorial, you too will be doing your own box braids
00:12 like a pro.
00:13 Alright, let's get right into it.
00:15 Here's a snapshot of a couple of things you're going to need to complete this tutorial.
00:19 Everything I'm using will be listed in the description bar below this video.
00:23 Okay, let's get into this amazing ombre hair.
00:25 I used 8 packs of the black lilac and gray ombre hair from catface.me.
00:31 Make sure you guys use checkout code MATV to save some money.
00:34 Now what I'm going to do is prep my hair.
00:37 I'm going to stop up the sink and I'm going to start filling it with a warm, lukewarm
00:42 water.
00:43 You do not want the water to be hot.
00:44 I'm going to use 1 cup of apple cider vinegar.
00:47 I like to use Bragg's.
00:48 You can use whatever you like.
00:49 And I'll just pour it into that lukewarm water.
00:53 Next I'm just going to take the tips, the part that's going to be braided and closest
00:56 to my scalp.
00:57 I'm just going to soak that for about 20 minutes.
00:59 As you can see there, you saw the little white residue?
01:02 That's alkaline.
01:03 You definitely want to make sure that that comes off.
01:05 It takes about 20 minutes.
01:06 And when that's all done, I'm going to simply rinse all of the braiding hair, the whole
01:11 entire package, and I'm going to set it aside and let that air dry overnight.
01:17 Alright, I am starting with freshly deep conditioned.
01:20 All of that good stuff are my natural hair that's blown out.
01:23 Right now I'm applying my moisturizing cream because my hair will be braided for about
01:28 4 weeks.
01:29 So I want to make sure that I am locking in the most moisture at this point.
01:33 I am now going to part my hair into 3 working quadrants.
01:36 This allows me to work through each one of these sections quickly and effectively.
01:41 Now I'm going to take my braiding hair that is completely dry.
01:44 See it's all good.
01:45 And I'm going to start measuring out the size I want for my braid.
01:49 I am going to be measuring my hair one finger size.
01:53 So I think I'm using my ring finger as my measurement.
01:56 I really, really want to stress that you guys want to make sure that the hair is thick enough
02:00 with one side of the braid.
02:02 Not folded over.
02:03 Okay?
02:04 That's how you're going to ensure that your braid size will be the same each time.
02:07 Now you're just seeing me stretch the hair.
02:09 I'm taking away that blunt end that's at the bottom of the hair and I'm stretching it.
02:13 This also will give you more length and it will take away those blunt ends when you go
02:17 to braid.
02:18 I have my first pack set up and I'm getting ready to dive in.
02:21 Alright guys, so I have, I would say 3/4 of my hair done.
02:32 And these are super long.
02:33 There's no way I'm going to be able to get it all on camera.
02:38 Well, let's see.
02:42 Alright, so they're super long.
02:47 I just did straight across parting in the back.
02:52 Like so.
02:53 And I did brick laying.
02:55 So everywhere that there's a space in my original row, I laid a braid in between it.
03:02 So that gives it a fuller appearance.
03:06 When I got up here, I had this section parted out.
03:10 You guys saw that this section was parted out.
03:13 I did diamond parting up here at the top.
03:17 And it's basically where you part the hair on a slant and then you come down and it makes
03:21 a perfect diamond part.
03:24 I like doing that on the front perimeter because it allows the hair to fall in between the
03:29 spaces and it gives a very full illusion.
03:32 As you can see, this is my thinner side as far as density because I did not do a middle
03:37 part.
03:38 I don't wear middle parts really.
03:39 So I wanted to do a side part and then just have all the hair be even.
03:46 So that's where I'm at right now and I'm about to walk you through how to put the extensions
03:51 in and do it so easy.
03:54 Like seriously.
03:56 My first step is to part out my section of hair I'm going to work with and apply some
03:59 edge control.
04:00 Next, I'm going to take those section pieces that I already showed you in the beginning
04:03 of the video and I'm going to split that in 3/4 and 1/4.
04:07 1/4 is going to equal one leg of the braid and the other two are going to equal the other
04:12 two legs of the braid.
04:13 I'm removing all tangles and I now have three evenly distributed sections which will give
04:19 me the most equal and even looking braid.
04:21 I'm going to put that to the back of my head.
04:23 I'm going to split my section braid part in half.
04:27 See that?
04:28 I got one leg of the synthetic hair attached to that half a section and then I'm going
04:32 to loop through and grab the other section as well as another leg of the braiding hair.
04:38 Let's watch that again.
04:40 Split my real hair in half.
04:42 As I'm splitting you can see that I add that synthetic hair into that one half.
04:46 Ok, you see that?
04:47 So I got two legs and then the one in the middle is with the hair.
04:51 I'm going to grip the other leg from the back.
04:53 It's very loose.
04:54 It's ok because when you go to slide your hand back and grip it from the other side
04:58 you now have a taunt braid with all of your edges snatched but in a good way.
05:03 Not in a bad way.
05:04 We are all about keeping edges around here.
05:06 You can just proceed to braid as you normally would.
05:09 I like to take the braid and pull it to the front of me so I can underhand braid it which
05:13 gives me a tighter braid.
05:16 It allows my real hair to stay in and not separate from the synthetic hair and of course
05:20 is a quicker way to braid.
05:32 Ok let's see it again from a different angle.
05:34 Edge control on the roots so you can have good friction.
05:38 You're going to grab your section of hair you already have sectioned out so you know
05:41 that it's going to be the right size.
05:43 You're going to split it in 3/4 and 1/4.
05:45 You're going to loop that and then you're going to put the hair behind you.
05:49 I find that when I place the hair behind me I work better.
05:53 I always have the two open sides in my right hand and the one leg in my left hand if that
05:59 helps.
06:00 So I have one, two legs.
06:02 I'm going to split the hair in half and I'm going to hold that with one of the legs of
06:06 the synthetic hair.
06:07 And then I'm going to proceed to just braid.
06:10 And this technique allows you to just braid effortlessly without having to worry about
06:15 evenly distributing the hair so that the braid turns out even in the long run.
06:19 There are other techniques you can use but they tend to not look as uniform and as professional
06:25 of a braid as this technique in my opinion.
06:28 I could be wrong but you know this is how I do it.
06:31 Now I'm adding a little bit of hair gel to assure that my hair is going to stay within
06:36 the braids and I am going to proceed to braid downward like forever.
06:43 It literally took like four minutes to braid one braid because it's so long.
06:48 This hair comes down to the middle of my bottom.
06:51 Like you guys it's that ridiculously long.
06:53 Like I almost couldn't finish braiding because I ran out of arm space.
06:57 So yeah.
07:03 Twelve hours later and it was well worth it.
07:06 Look at these braids.
07:07 They are absolutely beautiful.
07:09 There's such a statement with the ombre hair.
07:12 I didn't have to do the ombres manually.
07:14 It was a blessing to have this cat face hair.
07:16 All I had to do was just braid my hair.
07:19 I have about seventy something braids in my head and you guys they are absolutely gorgeous.
07:25 So make sure you guys are subscribed.
07:27 Make sure you thumbs up.
07:29 Comment in the sections down below.
07:31 Is this something you can see yourself doing?
07:33 Maybe you can get a friend to come over and help you and it will be a lot quicker.
07:36 But I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial and I'll see you in the next one.
07:40 Bye!
