00:00 Hi, my name is Hilda LaVerge and I'm a professional makeup artist.
00:15 Today I'm going to show you how to apply eye makeup for big eyes.
00:19 So if you want to make your eyes appear bigger, it's all about light and dark and contour.
00:24 Today I'm going to be using Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Duo in Perfect Pastels.
00:29 So first what you want to do is apply a lot of light shadow to the eye because that's
00:33 going to really bring the eyes forward and make them appear bigger.
00:37 So I'm going to use this really soft wash of a really pretty light purple and I'm going
00:44 to put it over the entire lid.
00:47 So I'm just going to do a really nice wash of this really pretty light lilac color and
00:54 it's got shimmer in it which is really great if you want to attract the light and just
00:57 give the illusion of bigger eyes.
01:00 First what you want to do is prep your eyelids with a little bit of concealer or foundation
01:04 just to even out the skin tone, get rid of any discoloration or little veins that you
01:08 might see because this is such a sheer color.
01:12 So we'll do that first which I've already done on Alana and then I'm just placing the
01:17 color just a wash across the whole lid.
01:20 So from the eyelash roots all the way up to the brow bone.
01:27 Get a really pretty shimmery wash that's going to reflect a lot of light and then you're
01:34 going to want to contour with a darker shade and to give the optical illusion of bigger
01:41 eyes you actually go just a little bit higher than the crease.
01:46 So normally if you're doing say a smoky eye you want to go right in the crease but since
01:52 we're trying to give the illusion of a bigger rounder eye I'm going to just go a little
01:57 bit above the crease.
02:02 So then you can take that same darker contour color and create a lower lash line.
02:10 So just go as close as possible to the eyelashes on the bottom.
02:16 And when you want to create an illusion of big eyes you want to use eyeliner very sparingly
02:23 because dark recedes and it can make your eyes look a little bit smaller.
02:27 And you want to leave the waterline either bare or you can use a white or a cream colored
02:33 pencil liner and that will also give the illusion of bigger eyes.
02:38 So one tip to create a larger looking eye is to either leave the waterline bare or use
02:45 a white eyeliner or a cream colored eyeliner just in the waterline.
02:50 And that will create an illusion of a bigger brighter eye.
02:55 Just close your eyes.
02:56 I'm going to take the dark color again that I used on the bottom as a liner and just put
03:00 that on the top lashes and create a nice soft line up there.
03:06 So you really want to keep the line nice and soft, not too thick.
03:11 And try to go for a lighter color like a soft gray or brown if you're going for a more neutral
03:17 color.
03:18 I'm having fun today and using this really pretty lilac.
03:25 The last thing that I'm going to do is a really important step and it's the one thing that
03:29 is a necessity when I'm doing somebody's makeup for a photo shoot or a red carpet event.
03:33 I always use this eyelash curler.
03:35 It looks like a little torture device but it's really going to work to open up the eyes
03:40 and curl the lashes and just lift them and make them look really awake.
03:44 So when you're going for a big eyed look you definitely want one of these.
03:48 So just look down a little and just place the curler.
03:54 Great.
03:57 And then just finish with a couple coats of mascara.
04:01 Okay, great.
04:06 Now I'm going to finish off the other eye.
04:07 Okay, so we finished the look and Elena already has big beautiful eyes but I think we've really
04:13 enhanced them and brought out their color and made them look even more bright and beautiful.
04:18 So there you go.
04:19 That's the best way to apply eye makeup for big beautiful eyes.
04:22 Thanks for watching.
04:23 I'm Hilda LaVerge.
