The UK is bracing itself for a scorching summer as meteorologists have predicted the arrival of a pressure system known as “African plumes” later this month. UK will most likely experience the first push of the African Plume at the end of May and during the beginning of June. This high-pressure system will cause severe conditions within the UK…with temperatures reaching as high as 35 degrees Celsius.The African Plume is a meteorological phenomenon characterised by a mass of hot air moving from the Sahara desert to Europe. The plume causes a lengthy period of exceptionally high temperatures, typically exceeding 30 degrees Celsius in the UK. Extremely high temperatures may last for days or weeks. Furthermore, the intensity can vary each year, depending on the atmospheric conditions. African plumes are likely to sweep across Europe between June and September.
