00:56 Macaulay McGowan in the Champs Camp colors of yellow with the blue and

01:03 Joe Gallagher, his trainer,
01:05 has returned to set up base at Champs Camp where it all began.
01:10 And I was just describing what's at stake here, Matt, on the ring walks.
01:15 And it is a really interesting one because Denny has
01:19 made such big strides in recent times.
01:22 There's a long way for him to fall here if he doesn't get the result.
01:26 McGowan can rise swiftly, snakes and ladders boxing, isn't it?
01:30 >> Yeah, definitely, you're as good as your last fight as they say.
01:33 And he has built up a good run here, Denny.
01:37 You got good momentum, his confidence must be sky high.
01:40 He's boxing close to home or at home.
01:43 And McGowan coming off a loss, which wasn't really a loss.
01:47 Everyone's seen that.
01:50 So two guys here that probably deserve a shot at the British title, to be honest.
01:54 So whoever wins, I'm sure will be closing in on that.
01:57 >> Well, it was a majority draw that he got McGowan, but
02:00 it would have felt like a loss, certainly.
02:03 As I mentioned, Denny was hoping to become mandatory for Denzel.
02:08 But he got put into a final eliminator and decided to go a different route.
02:12 How does Shiraz install as a mandatory?
02:14 And I'm not knocking that decision by the ball.
02:17 That's a fantastic fight.
02:20 >> The Tyler Denny is in the Tyler Denny business.
02:24 And he's taking himself out the back of the cage.
02:26 And he's starting nice and sharp here, good use of the jab.

02:49 And Denny can be a bit square as he comes in.
02:52 He keeps the hands up nice and high and he does try and move the head.
02:56 But he can come a little bit square at times.
02:59 So the right hand down the middle should be a great shot for McGowan.

03:10 Keeping those hands up, Denny pops out that lead left.

03:50 Boxing has suffered another loss and the name Eric Guy might not be one
03:58 that wider boxing fans are aware of, but he was an unbelievable character.
04:04 A unique character because all fighters knew Eric Guy.
04:08 Because almost all of you at some point would have been on the phone to him
04:11 trying to get footage of one of your amateur fights.
04:13 He had the lot.
04:15 >> A massive character and like you said, back in the day when you went for
04:18 the video of your tape, he was the go to guy.
04:21 I don't think there's many people that has boxed ever at any stage or
04:25 any level in the UK that hasn't had a video or a DVD of Eric Guy at some point.
04:30 >> But he just wants one of those characters who was boxing through and
04:34 through and the sport will be, it will be a poorer place without him.
04:37 So our condolences, our best wishes to his friends and family.

04:53 >> So they scheduled for ten in the middleweight division.
04:57 Danny again just looking, flat out to the body, McGowan,
05:03 let go with the right hand and again there.
05:06 But once he'd thrown it, Danny had just taken that step off to the side.
05:10 And he's good Danny, just working in that tight circle around you.
05:14 There's the upper body movement, working around that front foot a lot of the time.
05:20 That was a good right hand to the body there from McGowan.

05:29 >> I think McGowan's just, the basics are gonna work here.
05:34 The straight right hand down the middle, the jab, the double jab, and
05:36 the straight right hand to body and head.
05:39 I don't think he needs to get too adventurous or too reckless.
05:42 I think Danny's gonna have to sort of make the fight and
05:46 take it to and look to put combinations of body shots.
05:49 I think McGowan, if McGowan keeps it basic and
05:52 just fires those straight shots down through the middle.
05:56 I think that's the way to go for him.

06:04 They've been together for a little while now.
06:07 The first fight was against Sergio Martinez, a pretty extraordinary affair,
06:12 that one.
06:13 But he's put that in the rear view mirror very firmly.
06:17 After that, they took a couple of more straightforward affairs.
06:20 And Gallagher again just bellowing the encouragement as McGowan was
06:25 managing to land a couple there.
06:27 He's a slippery target, Tyler Denny.
06:30 As we said, he has got really good upper body movement.
06:33 It's tiring fighting like that, but you look at the width of the back of him.
06:36 He's clearly working as hard in the gym as ever.
06:39 Just drops that flag and rips in the right hand to the body, but
06:42 this is good pressure from McGowan.
06:43 >> Don't do that.
06:44 >> Good, good, good, straight right hands.
06:48 Good left hook to the body as well.
06:50 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> I think Denny's certainly less
06:55 effective if he's being backed up.
06:57 I'm not saying he can't box on the back foot, but
07:00 he's more effective when he's coming forward.
07:05 He's good at staying low, and keeps himself in a good body position,
07:10 strong, low center of gravity.
07:13 But when he's backed up and he straightens up, he's less effective.

12:25 Well, that is the aforementioned belt.
12:26 The difference between that one and the one we're used to is the turquoise
12:31 coloring to the ribbon in the body of the belt.
12:33 But other than that, it's exactly the same.
12:37 It's an amazing piece of artisanship, it really is.
12:41 When you get it in your hand, it's got a real kind of weight to it.
12:45 So into the fourth round, there's not much in this at all, Matt.

13:00 a drawn round in round two, Danny nicking round one and round three.
13:04 So two point lead on the card, the way you're seeing this at home.
13:12 Danny in those openings, I would say that of the two,
13:15 he has thrown more punches, but McGowan has definitely done some effective work
13:20 himself.

13:31 >> Yeah, actually, I think I've got probably
13:33 McGowan two, one off.
13:34 But they're very close, couldn't really argue.

13:41 >> Good hand position there from McGowan
13:43 through the one, two, and then got those gloves right back where they needed to be.
13:46 Dips again and throws that right hand, but
13:49 that's something he's looked to do, gets right underneath those punches,
13:52 in behind the shoulder, makes it difficult for-
13:55 >> That's a good shot.
13:56 >> Straight left hand there from Danny was a good shot, but
13:58 McGowan came back with a right of his own.
14:00 But that was a sweet punch there from Danny.
14:03 And just to try and work on the inside,
14:05 that was maybe a little bit low, the left hand from Danny.
14:09 But the rest of the body was solid.
14:12 >> Both men landing good body shots here, and
14:13 both men landing the backhands through the middle.
14:17 Really warming up nicely this fight now.

14:29 >> But we know that Danny's got plenty of
14:31 experience going down the stretch over ten rounds,
14:33 something that McGowan doesn't have quite so much of.
14:37 Although he does have some,
14:38 toughing it out against Kieran Conway, to survive Colline.
14:41 Good right hand there though from Danny, just caught McGowan as he was opening out.
14:47 >> Good shot as well, landed a right hook to the body, then a straight left.
14:50 Upstairs, beautiful shot and a good uppercut again from Danny.
14:54 I think the defenses of McGowan letting him down a little bit here.

15:18 He's having a really good round here, the second half of it, he's dominating.
15:21 McGowan has looked to try and be aggressive, but
15:24 when he's opened out himself, that's really when he's getting caught.

15:33 But it was some really slick work from Tyler Danny,
15:36 leading off with a little bit of a wild left hook there.
15:40 McGowan didn't manage to land it.
15:43 And Danny just trying to work him over, good right hand to the body.

16:24 He's proving quite difficult to tempt into the ring at the minute.

18:39 Hasn't quite landed it, but you can see what he's thinking,
18:44 because the way he crouches, Danny, is hard for
18:47 McGowan to hit with that right hand.
18:50 Danny just exploding up out of that crouch and landing that short left hand.
18:54 He's a difficult target, Danny, isn't he?
18:55 Because he gets low, he half turns his back, he doesn't show you much.
18:59 >> No, he's really effective at what he does.
19:01 Like you say, he stays low, he doesn't.
19:04 Keeps the chin on the chest, bends his knees, stays crouched.
19:07 And he's quite broad at the shoulders too, got long arms as well.
19:11 So he's good at blocking his body, and
19:14 then he's good at springing up, punching out of the crouch.
19:18 Difficult man to fight.
19:20 >> Some blood coming from the end of the nose there of McGowan, I think,
19:22 cuz the head's just rubbed together on the ropes right above his.
19:25 Physically, they are quite different.
19:27 As you say, Danny, with those long arms, that wide back,
19:31 that low center of gravity, crunching that left hand through the middle again there.
19:36 And McGowan is a bit more upright, longer bodied,
19:40 more difficult for him to protect that torso area.

20:40 He's found a little bit of a groove just working that.

20:50 You see him land double right hook to the body, and then he spun off, brilliant.

21:02 Three, four punches came back from Denny.
21:04 McGowan's got to keep the faith in, keep working.
21:08 Whenever he throws anything, he's got to go out nice and quick,
21:11 come back just as quick, keep those hands up in place.
21:14 >> Easy for me to say, we're halfway through this one, a long way to go yet.
21:20 >> Yeah, there could be some twists and turns, but
21:22 I feel like Denny's settled really into the fight now, and
21:24 he's in the driver's seat here.
21:26 I think McGowan, the good uppercut there, nice shot from McGowan.
21:30 But what I think he's got to be careful of, McGowan,
21:32 which I think he played into Denny's hands a couple of times in the last few rounds,
21:36 was being overly aggressive, trying to impose himself too much.
21:40 And he just played into Denny's hands and
21:41 got caught with some straight lefts down the middle.
21:43 And he's just got to be wary of that.
21:47 Good shot, but Denny, very effective at ducking low,
21:50 good body movement, and punching out of that crouch.

22:11 there from McGowan, and again, that's a shot that's worked at times.
22:14 Because as he does dip low at the waist, Denny, that is available to you.
22:18 >> Yeah, it's like a right uppercut into the pit of the stomach,
22:23 just loops it under.

22:34 >> Just looking at the referee there
22:39 for a second McGowan, I'm not quite sure what that was about.
22:42 Maybe another clash of heads in the inside, they've rubbed together a fair bit.
22:46 There's a little bit of swelling underneath the right eye there of McGowan
22:50 into the final minute of round six.
22:55 Right hand just got through from McGowan, nothing too solid about it.

23:09 >> And he's just turned his back there,
23:11 McGowan, as a right hand came into the body.
23:13 He's growing frustrated here.
23:15 I think we're calling McGowan, he's feeling like he's on the rough end with
23:18 some head work.
23:19 There's a cut there you can see on the corner of the left eye.
23:22 It doesn't look great.
23:23 We can't get all that close to looking at it from where we are.
23:27 If that's from an accidental clash of heads,
23:29 then we're well past the completion of four rounds.
23:31 And we would go to the scorecards.
23:35 If it's from a punch from Denny and the fight is stopped,
23:37 then of course he will win by a technical knockout.
23:40 The head clash seems more likely.

23:48 Let's see if we can get a look at how this happened.
23:52 The referee, I think, indicating to Joe Gallagher there that that was
23:55 the result of a head clash.

24:07 Yeah, that was the head clash, that's what caused it.

24:15 >> He actually had a good body shot at
24:17 the same time, Denny.

24:22 because he's breathing a little bit heavier.
24:24 He can't go low, his legs are getting weak.
24:25 She's standing a little bit taller.
24:27 She drives that right uppercut on the right hook.
24:28 And a left hook after that, all right?
24:31 Keep trying, yeah, German, all right?
24:33 This is what we're working on now, this stage.

24:39 >> Well, it's not great, that cut.
24:40 You can see how wide it was there.
24:42 William Gibley just working on it in between rounds, getting that Q-tip in for
24:45 as long as he possibly could, applying the pressure.
24:48 And then just a dab of Vaseline at the very, very end there.
24:51 Joe Gallagher, Matt, just trying to lift McGowan a bit there,
24:54 just telling him, Denny's getting a little bit tired.
24:56 The strength in his legs is going a bit.
24:58 He's standing a little bit taller, that uppercut, that hook, that can work.
25:02 And these are the things you have to do to just push your man on.
25:05 I'm not really seeing those signs myself, but
25:08 as a trainer, that's his technology at times.
25:11 And McGowan's starting nicely here.
25:13 >> Yeah, he's just trying to G him up a little bit.
25:15 I think he might have felt that he was in danger of possibly feeling sorry for
25:19 himself a little bit, especially with the head clash.
25:22 So yeah, a bit of a pep talk, just trying to fire him back up.

25:43 set his feet for that, which is not an easy thing to do,
25:46 because Denny's always moving left, right, clockwise, counterclockwise.
25:50 He's not in front of you for very long, so timing those is tricky.

26:17 He is a very awkward customer to box.
26:19 He kind of chisels away at you.
26:21 The head's just banging together on the inside again there.

28:27 As we get nearer the night, he leans into his faith.
28:33 Expert scribe John Dennon wrote a really interesting article this week about how
28:38 Bawatsi retreats day by day during the week, keeps his scriptures close.
28:43 And really just concentrates on taking himself to that place where you're
28:48 mentally prepared to do whatever it is you need to do to get the win.
28:52 He's been out of the ring for a long time.
28:55 He's watched others get opportunities, move past him.
28:59 And we may see some of that frustration taken out of Pavel Stepien later on.
29:05 Well, here's how you got it at home,
29:07 Danny with a handy lead through seven rounds.
29:11 >> I wouldn't argue with that too much, you can have a slightly narrow I think.
29:16 But Danny is continuing to move with a lot of
29:20 spinning around that front foot and it's difficult for
29:25 McGowan really to pin him down.
29:28 Although he's kept going, stuck to his guns and he has had success.
29:32 >> Yeah, he's in the fight, he's competitive in it.
29:34 I just think Danny's been that little bit cuter,
29:36 a bit craftier with his movement.
29:38 >> And also the better defense.
29:41 >> Chin down, chin down, speed of hand.
29:44 >> That was decent from McGowan, he just backed Danny up a little bit there.
29:47 And maybe there are some signs in this eighth round that Danny is beginning to
29:51 slow down a touch.
29:51 It's very physically demanding, the way that he fights.
29:54 We mentioned that before, that quite extravagant upper body movement,
29:58 lateral movement, the low center of gravity, puts pressure on your legs.
30:03 >> Good work there from McGowan.
30:04 >> McGowan's going a little bit here,
30:06 landing that right hand, a slip at just the one moment.
30:09 >> Good left hook.
30:10 >> Couple of left hands as well.
30:12 >> Yeah, sorry, Andy, he landed a couple of really good left hooks there,
30:15 doubling up on him, body, head, double left hook to the head.
30:18 Clipped Danny around the back of the ear, and
30:20 I thought he hurt him there, but with Charlie, and again here now.

30:27 Danny just trying to stay on the move.
30:30 But McGowan is not giving him any peace here at all.
30:34 >> Yeah, I think he smells blood here, he's really locked on here,
30:37 banging those left hooks into the head, and body, doubling up on him.

30:44 you feel that this is big for McGowan.
30:46 He's winning this round, but he can maybe get something serious done here.
30:50 Trying to get on the jab there, Danny, up on his toes a little bit, and
30:53 backing off, backing off voluntarily.
30:56 Maybe for the first time he walks onto him there, and
30:58 McGowan I think has hurt him, manages to disengage.
31:02 He's trying to slip and roll on the ropes there, Danny, and
31:04 he can tighten McGowan, which he does with that left hand, and
31:07 Danny could be in trouble here.
31:08 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> Yeah, he's the fire back, Danny,
31:12 McGowan landing at will here, doubling up on the left hooks,
31:16 doubling up on those left uppercuts.
31:18 Danny certainly was shoved up a little bit down the ropes.

31:25 the right to the body there, Danny.
31:26 But this has been a big round for McGowan, and
31:28 this will put the wind in his sails heading into the final two.
31:33 He'll take this one, if he can take those two as well,
31:36 it's still a big if at this stage, and that could make things very interesting.
31:39 >> He's used up a lot of energy there as well, though, McGowan, so
31:42 he'll need a good, really fill his lungs up here in the minute between the rounds.

32:37 He wants his man to get back to doing what he was doing previously, but
32:40 the point is McGowan in that round didn't let him do it, he got on him and
32:44 he hurt him.
32:45 >> Exactly, I don't think it's anything that Denny stopped doing or did wrong.
32:49 I just think that it was the relentless desire, I guess,
32:54 from McGowan, his refusal to accept defeat.
32:58 Keep pushing forward, throwing punches, in punches,
33:01 lots of combination, doubling, tripling, even throwing four left hooks,
33:06 body hit, and eventually they're gonna get through.
33:09 And also, you gotta remember, Denny's worked hard in this fight,
33:12 he hasn't got an unlimited battery of energy.
33:14 He's gotta get a breather as well, and when he's on the ropes there,
33:17 McGowan unloaded and had a lot of success.
33:20 And I think that really boosted his confidence now.
33:23 >> These last two rounds are gonna be interesting.
33:26 >> Well, that was absolutely it, McGowan made him go to the ropes.
33:29 He made him for the first time really back up and try and stay out of the way.
33:33 The corner telling Denny that they got him three up through eight rounds, but
33:37 that they needed these last two just to make absolutely sure.
33:40 He steps in and looks for the left of the body there, but McGowan just cantering
33:43 forward, that front foot always closing down the space, guard nice and tight.

33:58 >> Joe Gallagher just telling him,
34:00 McGowan, that he's waiting too long, he's got to force the issue.
34:03 As you said, Matt, he put plenty into that round himself, but
34:07 now is the time to empty the tank.
34:09 He's got to put everything he's gotten into this final five minutes,
34:12 because I would say he is behind.
34:14 >> Yeah, I think so, but maybe still a minute and a half left in the round,
34:18 get a bit of work out of Denny, try and get some work out of him now with block
34:22 and catch, and just take whatever he gives you, and then kind of last 40 seconds or
34:27 so in the round, then really try and turn the screw, catch the eye of the judges.

34:36 a right hand, which caused Denny to back up a little bit.
