00:00 I want to see a good clean fight, I want to see a break clean, protect yourselves at all times, touch gloves.
00:10 [CROWD CHEERING]
00:13 69% of you thinking that Ben Whittaker has got what it takes to go on to become a world champion,
00:19 there's a long, long way to go before he gets to that kind of level.
00:24 This is good, he finally made the light heavyweight limit yesterday, a good habit to get into.
00:30 No title on the line, so you could argue he didn't have to, but I always like to see that.
00:35 Just look at the size of him in there, Whittaker.
00:39 It is like somebody has just inflated him since we saw him on the scales yesterday, that's not unusual.
00:47 But looking up at the ring, there does seem to be a couple of weight divisions between the pair of them.
00:53 Looking through a right hand over the top there, Grant, he wasn't that far away with it.
00:57 You say that Andy, but he's quite slim I think Whittaker, he's very tall, but he's quite lean and slim,
01:04 where you look at Jordan Grant and he's quite chunky, isn't he?
01:08 It's thick.
01:09 Yeah, very thick set, big legs.
01:11 There's the showboating.
01:16 Just looking out at the ring, people at ringside, Grant is not going to be distracted by any of that.
01:24 Whittaker just hopping in on one foot there, I don't think they're really going to be able to control this,
01:33 the training team, this is how he's going to choose to do things, he's just that kind of character.
01:40 Looking to try and measure that right hand.
01:43 Nice one too there from Whittaker, just got the distance on that one, but Grant did well with it,
01:55 he was just sinking into that blue corner, took the heat off it.
01:59 Grant is doing well to stay concentrated, regardless of what's going on and what Ben's doing,
02:05 he's getting a bit of a telling off here.
02:07 Just asking them both to tidy things up a bit I think there really,
02:16 there was an indication that somebody was using the elbow a touch.
02:21 A blow maybe had gone slightly low.
02:27 Just waving that lead hand and looking for the right there Whittaker,
02:32 but just pulled off it slightly, Grant is looking for that right hand himself every now and again.
02:37 I think we're quite down to arms and there's just no real conviction in the shot
02:42 and he's expecting something to come back.
02:44 Again Whittaker just engaging with somebody in the crowd here as we enter the final stages of the first round.
03:07 Leading off with that right hand.
03:11 He seems to be talking to our colleagues, to Dan Aziz, we're quite a distance away,
03:17 that's going to be a hard conversation to have to be honest.
03:19 I think it's Johnny who's shouting.
03:21 Nice one too there from Whittaker and then just steps off.
03:26 Just trying to beckon Grant in towards the end of the first round.
03:38 Just trying to beckon Grant in towards the end of the first round.
03:40 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:42 Can Chelsea keep up the pressure at the top of the table?
03:45 Find out live on Sky Sports.
03:48 Enjoy more of the latest blockbusters than anywhere else.
03:54 I'm looking for something magical.
03:56 This May on Sky Cinema.
03:59 The Prime Minister of Sweden, Mr. President,
04:01 has announced that he will be taking over the role of Prime Minister.
04:05 I'm looking for something magical.
04:11 The Prime Minister of Sweden, Mr. Ulof Palme, has been assassinated.
04:13 We have the US on one side, the Soviet Union on the other side.
04:15 Christine Larson was obsessed with finding the truth.
04:19 Whittaker just staying on his feet in between rounds there.
04:31 There's that lovely jab, just stepping into it.
04:33 What do you make of all of this, Macklin?
04:35 Because if you're the trainer, what do you do with this?
04:38 He's locked in, laser focused in the gym.
04:40 Everybody says so, but you can't really stop him doing that.
04:44 It's just who he is.
04:45 Yeah, exactly.
04:46 I think he just, Sugarhill, knows what he's signed up to when he agreed to train.
04:51 He won't have just done his research of who he is, how he's been spent.
04:55 Probably had many conversations and thought he accepts that that's part of his alter ego.
05:00 That's part of his ring persona.
05:05 And you've got to remember, Sugar works with Tyson as well,
05:08 so he's probably used to a little bit of flair.
05:11 Absolutely, that's a very good point.
05:13 He's used to handling big characters.
05:15 Right hand into the body there from Whittaker.
05:17 He's found that a couple of times in the early stages.
05:20 Had a chat with Jordan Grant, a long chat just before the weigh-in.
05:27 He runs a tiling company, Knockout Tiling.
05:30 He's had that for about a year, but he's dedicated to the boxing.
05:33 Again, there, the one-two lands, but he's got the gloves up, Grant,
05:36 and just allowed himself to just be knocked back into the ropes.
05:39 Takes those again on that guard, but there's a big swelling coming up
05:43 underneath that right eye, which will be a problem for him, maybe.
05:50 Looking for that right hand over the top,
05:52 but he's got through with maybe a jab there or a right hand, Whittaker.
05:57 Good body shot.
05:59 Again, just tapping with the lead hand there, Whittaker,
06:12 winding up for the uppercut.
06:14 Every single time he gets Grant to the ropes,
06:17 I can see all three of us are just waiting for something to happen.
06:20 We're just waiting for the shot to come.
06:23 He's just taking his time, he's just tapping away,
06:26 and he's one big shot. We're waiting for a great body shot again.
06:29 That eye's a mess, though.
06:31 You can see it swelling up almost by the second.
06:33 It's worse than it was when I saw it square on about 15 seconds ago.
06:37 The swelling mostly underneath the eye, but you can see it on the eyebrow as well.
06:40 The referee just having a word there with Whittaker
06:43 about getting Grant in a little bit of a headlock.
06:47 When you see it on screen there, it doesn't look quite so bad,
06:50 but from ringside up close, it looks worse.
06:54 Just in and out with his feet there, Whittaker.
07:00 Right hand, cocked and ready to go.
07:03 Huge right hand from Whittaker.
07:06 He begins to dance as Grant gets back to his feet pretty quickly there.
07:11 That was a big shot, a solid shot.
07:15 He maybe got up a little bit too quickly there, Jordan Grant.
07:18 He could have done with the eight count,
07:20 and 28 seconds remaining in the round.
07:22 Whittaker looking to close in here, winding up with that right hand again.
07:26 He's got to try and keep things tight here, Jordan Grant.
07:29 Get that guard up, which is exactly what he's trying to do.
07:33 That was the shot we were all waiting for.
07:36 We knew it could come at any time, and he just pulled it out the bag.
07:40 The clock might save him here.
07:43 [CROWD NOISE]
07:47 There's that lead right hand, and a touch of gloves between the two.
07:51 You just look at that forehead as he walks back to the corner there.
07:54 Gerry Higgins of Strain will have a long, hard look at him here.
07:57 The referee just having a quick chat with him as well.
08:00 [MUSIC]
08:05 Stevie, get the hard one.
08:07 [MUSIC]
08:11 Trying to save an elbow.
08:13 [MUSIC]
08:25 Well, there's a knockdown.
08:27 That long, straight right hand.
08:29 There's a reaction to it from Whittaker.
08:32 Touch with the left hand, and then sends a right through.
08:36 Well, you know, there was precision there, very accurate.
08:39 Lovely right hand straight through the guard.
08:42 That's not what caused the eye swelling, though.
08:46 I didn't see that.
08:48 No, the eye had come up well before that.
08:51 I think the scariest part about the backhand that came through is it wasn't even...
08:55 Oh, and he's stabbed again here, and down right to the very start of the round here, Jordan Granite.
09:00 In comes the towel from the corner.
09:03 [CROWD NOISE]
09:05 And this fight is over. Whittaker up on the corner post on the opposite side of the ring.
09:12 Well, that was over before the round had really even started.
09:18 Gran came into the center of the ring, got caught, and you can see the balance just go completely,
09:27 and the towel came in.
09:29 You could tell that the corner were having a real close look at things between rounds.
09:33 And over comes Whittaker just to commiserate with his fallen foe there.
09:39 Well, we haven't seen him for a while.
09:45 He's got plenty to say.
09:47 If you talk the talk, you have to walk the walk.
09:49 This is just the third professional fight.
09:51 There is a long, long way to go, but he's walked the walk there, okay?
09:56 Yeah, definitely. Definitely.
09:58 And he's, you know, we didn't get to see too much, but what we see, he's good.
10:04 And, you know, we knew he, you know, you don't give silver medals at the Olympics,
10:09 and everything else he's won.
10:10 But even on the few, on the very relatively short professional career he's had,
10:16 he's been impressive, you know.
10:18 His accuracy, his patience, even cutting the ring guard, you know, very good, really good.
10:26 What I was about to say before he got the second knockdown is even when he landed the first by hand,
10:30 it wasn't, so we're looking at the second knockdowns this.
10:34 Left hook.
10:37 Yeah, just blocked it and then left hook.
10:40 Short left hook as well.
10:41 Good accuracy.
10:43 You know, didn't try and wind it up too much, just back, quick short left hook, just turned it over.
10:48 In both shots, you can't say that the real power shot he did was not really, like, substantial behind it.
10:55 It still has that effect on people.
10:57 The speed and the accuracy, though, and the timing of the shot.
11:00 And the towel was quick to come in there for him.
11:06 Gerry Higgins, he came straight out of his corner, he's looking to open up with that right hand.
11:12 Gets caught with the left, it's right up above us.
11:15 And you could just see the balance that deserted him straight away.
11:19 Whitaker was ready to go with the right.
11:22 But what he did there technically was absolutely spot on.
11:25 You know, he just turned his body, blocked his shot with the right elbow, his own.
11:29 And then, because he's turned his body to block the shot, his left hook's already cut.
11:34 So it's only a short little pivot, and he generates the power.
11:37 Well, let's do some matchmaking.
11:42 There's a West Midlands fighter who's English champion, Ricky Summers.
11:45 Good, solid, very seasoned pro.
11:48 Caught the British title challenge, he won that title, the English title against Joel McIntyre eight weeks ago.
11:53 He's from down the road, he's got all sorts going for him that fight.
11:56 And I'll just put it to you two, if you're Summers, do you fancy that?
12:00 He'll get well paid for it, and he might fancy his chances of showing Whitaker what life in the pros is about.
12:06 Well, look, if he's got to fight Ben Whitaker sooner rather than later, you know, before he gets the experience.
12:12 And it's a big fight, if it happens here in the resorts world the next time they come back here.
12:17 That's a no-brainer, really.
12:19 Well, we'll have to wait and see.
12:22 They're just getting that rope nicely assembled, and time for a selfie, I think, there with the trainer.
12:27 Unbelievable.
12:28 He was nice in every single way, in every aspect, even the performance of the match.
12:37 Ladies and gentlemen, referee Christopher Dean calls his stop to this contest at 13 seconds of round number three.
12:48 Declaring the winner by TKO and still undefeated, the surgeon Ben Whitaker!
13:03 3-0 for Ben Whittaker and we will be hearing from him very shortly.
