00:00 Hey guys, this is Emily and welcome back to my channel.
00:02 First off, Happy New Year!
00:04 This is one of the first talking videos I'm doing with you guys, so I just wanted to wish
00:08 you guys Happy New Year and I hope that 2015 is off to a great start for you guys.
00:14 Now today, the video that I'm going to be doing for you guys is a skincare tips video.
00:19 I know a lot of you have been asking about a skincare video, which I will be doing sometime
00:24 soon.
00:25 So for today, I just wanted to share with you guys the importance of using a serum and
00:30 also my top 5 tips for getting the most use out of your serum.
00:35 So for those of you guys who are unfamiliar with serums, they are a skincare product that
00:39 you apply after your cleanser and your toner and before your moisturizer.
00:44 They are very very highly concentrated products, which means that they have a lot of nutrients
00:49 that are really going to feed and boost your skin.
00:51 Now for serums to be as effective as they possibly can be, you need to be applying them
00:56 in a certain way so that that skincare really absorbs into your skin.
01:01 I'm going to be demonstrating most of my tips on something that I've been using for quite
01:05 a few years now.
01:06 This is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum.
01:10 It is an amazing product.
01:12 Personally, I really like it as well.
01:15 And so without further ado, let me get on with my top 5 tips for getting the most out
01:20 of your serum.
01:22 Tip number 1 for my top 5 skincare tips is personally a favorite of mine.
01:27 I think that serums really should be given a chance to infuse and absorb into your skin.
01:33 And what better way to do that than underneath a mask.
01:37 I think that masks are an essential part of any skincare routine and I think that they
01:42 should be done at least once a week.
01:44 So once a week, I use a really nice moisturizing mask applying this Estee Lauder serum directly
01:49 underneath that mask to help it infuse and to boost that mask's efficacy.
01:54 Something that you guys probably don't know about the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair
01:57 is that it is really, really good at helping your skin lock in that moisture.
02:02 I discovered this when I was talking with Estee Lauder recently.
02:06 So in this first clip, what I'm doing is just spritzing some water onto a clean hand without
02:12 the use of any serum.
02:14 As you can see, the water particles kind of drip off after a while and they don't stick
02:19 to the skin as well.
02:21 Now here what I'm doing is applying the Estee Lauder serum first, allowing it to seep into
02:27 the skin and then I'm going to spritz that water onto the skin again.
02:31 And this time, what you'll notice is that the droplets don't drip down from the skin
02:36 as quickly and that just shows how that serum helps to pull the moisture into your skin
02:42 and lock it in.
02:43 And I just thought that that was something really interesting that I could share with
02:46 you guys just to show you the efficacy of skincare.
02:50 Tip number two is a very simple step but something that is easily overlooked by a lot of people
02:56 and that is to exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate before you apply your serum.
03:02 There are very many different ways of exfoliating.
03:05 Some do chemical exfoliation by using an AHA type exfoliant on the skin.
03:11 Another way you can exfoliate your skin is of course the typical physical exfoliation
03:15 which is buying a scrub.
03:17 This is something that you can use once every three days or so.
03:22 It really depends on your skin how sensitive it is, how oily it is.
03:26 Make sure that you are scrubbing just the right amount for your skin type and this is
03:30 just going to help clear away all those dead skin cells that are clogging the skin and
03:35 preventing your skincare from sinking deep into the skin.
03:39 So then once you are done exfoliating your skin, we can move on to the next step which
03:42 is applying your serum.
03:44 And that leads us to tip number three for getting the most use out of your serum and
03:48 that is serum application techniques.
03:52 One tip for applying serum that is universal to all skincare is to apply in upwards motions.
03:59 So when you are applying to your cheeks, you want to do it in upwards circular motions.
04:05 When you are applying to your forehead, you want to move upwards and outwards.
04:10 And when you are applying to your neck, especially always, always do it in upward motions.
04:15 Another way you can help that serum really absorb into your skin is going with piano
04:19 playing tapping motions on your skin.
04:21 This is just going to help that serum really absorb into your skin very well and that will
04:26 of course increase the efficacy of that serum.
04:29 Now if you work in an air conditioned environment and your skin is really dry, a great way to
04:36 boost the hydration in your skin and to prevent your skin from losing any excess moisture
04:41 is to use a serum.
04:43 Now I'm going to be using as usual the A&R which is my favorite and I'm going to be using
04:48 this little sponge and what I'm going to be doing is I'm going to be picking up that serum
04:52 and applying quite a bit of it onto the back of my hand.
04:56 I'm using quite a lot because sponges tend to absorb quite a bit of serum, especially
05:00 since the serum is so fine.
05:02 So I'm using quite a bit and I'm just mixing that serum into the sponge on the back of
05:07 my hand and once I feel like that sponge has absorbed most of the serum, I'm going to use
05:12 it to apply to the tops of my skin and anywhere that I experience a little bit of dryness.
05:19 And this is also a great way to add a very natural glow to the skin.
05:25 And finally tip number five, this is another makeup tip.
05:28 You guys know I love my makeup so I had to include some makeup tips in here for you guys,
05:33 is to use your serum with your foundation.
05:36 So I'm just going to pump my foundation onto the back of my hand and then I'm going to
05:40 mix it in with two or three drops of my Advanced Night Repair Serum.
05:45 Then what I'm going to do is just mix that up onto the back of my hand using my foundation
05:49 brush and then just buff that into my skin.
05:52 What this does for you is it softens up your foundation so it doesn't look too cakey and
05:58 it adds a really gorgeous glow to your skin.
06:02 And those guys were my top five tips for getting the most use out of your serum.
06:07 I hope that you guys found this video helpful.
06:09 Please look out for a skincare video that I have coming very very soon with tips on
06:13 what skincare I use as well as other techniques that I use to care for my skin outside of
06:18 skincare.
06:19 That will be coming soon but in the meantime I hope you found these tips helpful.
06:23 Thank you so much for watching and I will see you in my next video.
06:27 Bye!
