00:00 Though it's a lot of fun to play with makeup and have tons of great looks to try, every
00:06 woman needs to know how to pull off a polished, professional look.
00:11 Maybe you have an interview, a big presentation, or just want to put your best face forward.
00:15 Let me show you some tricks.
00:20 So let's start with makeup prep.
00:23 Before you put on a drop of foundation or a swipe of color, you need to take care of
00:27 your skin.
00:28 All the makeup in the world isn't going to do what you want it to do if you don't have
00:31 a great canvas.
00:33 So talk to your independent beauty consultant.
00:36 Then get a good regimen that's right for your skin.
00:39 After you've finished your skincare for the morning, you'll want to take a few extra steps
00:43 to make your makeup stay all day.
00:45 If you have oil issues, use an oil mattifier to your problem areas, typically the forehead,
00:50 nose, and chin.
00:52 Then no matter your skin type, apply a foundation primer all over.
00:56 This will make your makeup glide on easier and also helps makeup stay in place.
01:00 I get asked what foundation is best for a professional 9-5 day.
01:04 Really, if you take the proper prep steps and use foundation primer, you can use any
01:09 foundation formula.
01:10 But remember to apply foundation lightly, then use concealer to the areas that need
01:14 extra coverage.
01:16 This will prevent you from looking like your foundation is caked on.
01:20 Once you've finished your foundation, you can move on to color.
01:23 For eyes, you don't have to stick to brown shades, contrary to popular belief.
01:28 When you're trying to look polished, eye color is all about color intensity and formula finish.
01:34 So stick to neutral mattes and iridescent shades.
01:37 And save the shimmery brights and metallic shades for evenings and weekends.
01:41 I like to use browns, taupes, soft pinks, purples, grays, and deep greens.
01:50 Now, if you want to play with the trend of the season, you certainly can.
01:56 Just incorporate a hint of it into your regular eye look.
01:59 For instance, if a strong winged black eyeliner is in, try a smaller version of this with
02:04 a deep brown or navy shade.
02:06 Or maybe metallics are in.
02:08 Just add a little to your inner corners for sparkle or just to the center of your eyelids.
02:13 For lips, avoid dry lip looks, but also steer clear of ultra glossy lips.
02:18 You want to be somewhere in between with a creamy finish.
02:21 For fair skin ladies, look for peachy pinks, dusty roses, or cherry reds.
02:27 Medium skin tones look great in berry, pink, or orange red shades.
02:33 And darker skin tones are flattered by deep colors like raisin, burgundy, and brick red.
02:39 When in doubt, never go more than two shades lighter or darker than your natural lip color.
02:44 And when you apply it, blot two or three times, reapplying between every blot.
02:49 Don't forget about your cheeks.
02:51 What you want to accomplish is a natural looking flush, one that is similar to your natural
02:54 flush, say, after you've exercised.
02:57 So go for a matte or iridescent shade close to your natural flush color and apply it in
03:02 a circular motion from the apples of your cheeks to the edge of your hairline.
03:06 If you apply too much, that's okay.
03:09 Just remove some cheek color with a cotton pad and then apply translucent, loose powder
03:13 over it.
03:14 Here's a tip I tell women when they have a big presentation or interview to prepare
03:18 for.
03:19 Don't wait until the morning of your big day to pick your shades.
03:23 Pick your outfit and then pick your makeup look.
03:26 It'll save you so much stress in the morning.
03:28 Once you have your shades picked out and applied, you'll want to set your makeup for the day.
03:33 Dust translucent powder over the face and spray makeup finishing spray.
03:37 Now I want to cover off the major don'ts as it applies to your professional face.
03:41 Don't apply too much sparkle.
03:43 Instead, choose matte shades for eyes and cheeks and creamy, not glossy lip shades.
03:49 Don't apply too much color.
03:51 Choose just one facial feature and accentuate it.
03:54 Keep the rest of the face neutral.
03:56 Don't apply a too dewy or too runny look.
04:00 Use eye primer to prevent eye color creasing.
04:03 Don't forget prep and prime steps for all skin types, especially oily skin.
04:08 Don't suffer makeup meltdown.
04:10 Use translucent, loose powder and makeup finishing spray.
04:14 Professional makeup tips like these are really going to set you apart and put your best face
04:18 forward.
04:19 And with confidence like that, there's nothing you can't do.
04:22 the world.
