00:00 Hi guys, so today I have a really special tutorial
00:02 for all of you.
00:04 Some of you might not know this,
00:05 but I was in a sorority while I was in college
00:07 for all four years.
00:08 And so, in our sorority,
00:10 we have a really special week called recruitment.
00:12 So what recruitment is,
00:13 is basically you have a week
00:15 where all the incoming freshmen come in
00:17 and they see all the sororities
00:18 and they end up joining a sorority at the very end.
00:20 So, during recruitment,
00:22 there are a couple different rounds
00:23 and there's different makeup you wear
00:24 during those different rounds
00:25 and there's also different outfits
00:26 and hairstyles you do as well.
00:28 So when I was going through,
00:29 I realized there really wasn't a ton out there
00:31 for me to find on YouTube or anything like that.
00:34 And even checking today,
00:35 there wasn't really anything.
00:36 So, I thought I'd throw together
00:38 a really quick tutorial for you guys,
00:39 kind of breaking down each round
00:41 and explaining what kind of makeup I'm wearing
00:43 for each round and why I chose to do the makeup I did.
00:45 So, that's kind of what this tutorial is all about today.
00:48 Also, if you are going through recruitment
00:50 and at any point you see what I'm doing
00:52 and you feel like that's just too much makeup for you
00:54 or it's not enough makeup for you,
00:56 just know that I want you guys to customize this
00:58 and make this your own,
00:59 like what feels best for you
01:01 and what really shows off your personality
01:03 the best as well.
01:04 So, make this your own,
01:05 have fun with it,
01:06 and without further ado,
01:07 let's get started with round one.
01:10 All right, so round one,
01:11 or open house,
01:12 is really pretty simple.
01:13 You're either given a shirt
01:15 or they give you something really simple to wear.
01:17 It's very casual and you want your makeup to match.
01:19 So today, I went in with a primer from Murad.
01:23 It is the Invisible Blur Perfecting Shield.
01:25 This is great because it does have some sun protection in it
01:27 and sometimes if you're out and about during recruitment,
01:30 it can be long and you might be out in the sun,
01:32 so you definitely want to protect your skin.
01:33 After doing that,
01:34 I am going in really light with my foundation.
01:36 Today, I'm using the Bobbi Brown Stick Foundation.
01:40 It's a little mini one.
01:41 I have a little mini one here,
01:42 but you can also get a full size.
01:43 You can also use a powder foundation
01:46 or even a BB cream.
01:47 You still want to keep it light.
01:48 I feel like you still want to see your skin underneath.
01:50 You want to keep this really natural looking.
01:52 If it's not a day you really want to go
01:53 kick it on with the full coverage foundation,
01:55 I would definitely keep it more light.
01:57 After my foundation,
01:58 I went in and started on my brows.
02:00 If you do have full brows,
02:01 I would just recommend going in with a clear brow gel
02:03 or even like a tinted brow gel
02:04 'cause you want to keep it really nice
02:06 and natural and full looking.
02:07 If you don't have full brows, don't worry.
02:09 I just went in and filled mine in with a Dior pencil
02:11 just to fill in any sparse areas.
02:13 And then afterwards, I still go in with a brow styler,
02:16 the one from Laura Mercier,
02:17 just to hold my brows in place.
02:19 And for the lips,
02:20 I went in today with the Maybelline Baby Lips.
02:23 It's just like a plain chapstick.
02:24 You can still do like a fun color,
02:26 like maybe a peach or a pink,
02:27 but you still want to keep it natural.
02:29 Then for the eyes,
02:30 I would just keep it really plain and simple, just mascara.
02:33 I also go on and put on false lashes
02:35 because if you are like me
02:37 and you can't go a day without marking false lashes,
02:39 it's okay.
02:40 Just make sure they're really natural looking,
02:42 they're not too over the top
02:43 and they don't look too dramatic and unrealistic.
02:45 Then just to warm up my face a little bit
02:46 because I can't just wear foundation,
02:48 I have to wear a blush or a bronzer as well.
02:51 I do go in a little bit with my bronzer from Makeup Forever
02:54 and my blush from NYX.
02:55 I would recommend using either like a pink
02:57 or a peach colored blush
02:59 'cause they look pretty natural.
03:01 I wouldn't go in with, again,
03:02 anything super dramatic or drastic.
03:04 I also go in with my Becca highlighter.
03:07 Usually I go like insane with this highlighter.
03:10 I try to like tone it back a little bit and go easy on it
03:13 and I just applied it on my cheekbones and also my nose.
03:16 But yeah, the monitor for day one, round one,
03:19 and open house is you just definitely want to keep it simple
03:21 to the point in yourself.
03:23 All right, so for round two or house tours,
03:26 I'm up the makeup a little bit
03:28 but it's still pretty natural
03:30 for what like I do on a day-to-day basis.
03:32 So I did add on a clear oil, a tinted oil from YSL
03:37 because it does have a little bit of color to it.
03:40 It's a little bit more colorful
03:42 than my clear chapstick that I put on before.
03:46 Also for the eyeshadow,
03:47 all I did was add a tiny bit of brown to contour my eyes.
03:51 It's still really natural looking
03:52 but I want my eyes to pop a little bit more
03:54 than they did with just the mascara or lashes.
03:56 So for this look, you can definitely keep on
03:58 the same foundation that you had before.
04:01 You can up it a little bit,
04:01 maybe with a medium coverage foundation
04:04 but I'm still keeping it pretty natural
04:05 with the brows, the bronzer, and the blush and highlight.
04:08 So this round is still kind of natural
04:10 but not as natural as the round before.
04:12 All right, so round three or philanthropy round
04:16 is my favorite round of recruitment.
04:18 If you're struggling trying to think of like
04:19 what you should wear, it's definitely an outfit attire
04:22 you would wear for like a wedding guest
04:24 or even like a Sunday brun.
04:25 What I did was I actually went in and removed my foundation.
04:28 So I'm going in with my MAC foundation first
04:31 and I'm just kind of buffing that into my skin.
04:34 After the foundation, I'm going in to contour,
04:36 add some blush, and my highlight.
04:38 So I'm also going in with my concealer as you can see
04:41 and I'm putting that under my eyes.
04:42 I'm putting that on a little bit more heavy
04:43 than I did before because I want this
04:45 to look more glamorous than the first look.
04:48 After that, I am going in with my fan brush.
04:50 I'm just lightly contouring my cheekbones.
04:52 I'm also going in a little bit heavier
04:54 with the blush than I did before
04:56 and I am going in a little bit heavier
04:57 with that highlight as well.
04:59 As you can see, I'm not just concentrating it
05:00 towards the cheekbones, the nose area.
05:02 I'm also going down on my upper lip,
05:05 aka the Cupid's bow, and my chin as well.
05:08 After the foundation's done, I am going in onto my eyes.
05:12 So I'm just kind of adding on to what's already there.
05:15 I'm going in with a deeper brown color
05:16 just to kind of contour my eyes even more.
05:19 And then after that, after I blend it out,
05:21 I am going in with a pop of sparkle.
05:22 You don't have to add sparkle if you don't want to.
05:24 I'm a very sparkly person, so of course,
05:26 I'm gonna add on the sparkle.
05:27 Also for my brows, I feel like the pencil just wasn't enough
05:30 and I love defining my brows with some brow powder.
05:33 And lastly, I'm doing my lips.
05:35 So for my lips, I am using a really fun magenta lip liner
05:40 just to kind of even out the color on my lips
05:43 before I go in with my pink lipstick from Clinique.
05:46 So definitely have fun this round.
05:48 You can show your colors more.
05:50 It's definitely more fun.
05:51 This is my favorite round by far.
05:52 I love philanthropy round.
05:54 And the last round is preference.
05:56 So for preference day, it is the most formal
05:58 of all the rounds.
05:59 You would want to wear a cocktail dress
06:01 or even a dress you would wear to a homecoming or a tolo.
06:04 I wouldn't recommend wearing a prom dress,
06:06 something that's floor length or really over the top formal.
06:09 This is a little bit less formal than that.
06:11 I would think more cocktail attire.
06:12 For my eyes, I went on and added some liner first.
06:15 And then after I added the liner,
06:17 I also popped on some bigger lashes.
06:19 I also went in with some liner too,
06:21 some on my waterline,
06:23 because I feel like that really deepens the look
06:24 and made it a little bit more nighttime glam.
06:27 Whereas the round before this,
06:28 it was more of a daytime glam.
06:30 I also went underneath my eye
06:31 and used that darker brown color.
06:33 And I just kind of smudged that out along the bottom line.
06:36 And then also I went on and I kind of lined my lips
06:38 in that red lip liner you can see.
06:40 And I also went on with my matte liquid lipstick.
06:44 And it's a red shade.
06:45 And I also went in to create a little bit of an ombre lip.
06:48 And I put a little bit of that nude color
06:50 and I tapped it out kind of to create an ombre lip.
06:53 So that's pretty much it for preference round.
06:55 For the hair, I would definitely keep it more glamorous.
06:57 If you guys can do up-dos, I would do that.
07:00 You could do curls.
07:01 Just have fun with this.
07:02 Think definitely more of a cocktail attire
07:05 or a night on the town.
07:06 And that's a wrap for all the makeup tutorials.
07:08 So I'm gonna leave you guys with a couple quick tips.
07:10 I actually wrote some down.
07:11 I have a little notepad.
07:12 So tip number one, what is in my bag?
07:15 For hair and equipment, you do typically have
07:16 like a little sack or a little purse
07:19 you can keep with you.
07:20 I always kept, if I was wearing heels
07:22 during a certain round, I would keep a pair of flats
07:24 while I'm walking to and from sororities.
07:27 I also kept a lipstick or a chapstick
07:30 just to do some touch-ups.
07:31 Same with blush.
07:32 And I would bring a notepad and pens,
07:35 which brings me to my second point.
07:37 Make sure you guys take notes on the sororities
07:39 that you're going to.
07:40 So what I do when I was going through
07:41 that really helped me was every day
07:43 I would take notes on things I remember
07:45 or something to just jog my memory
07:47 because I have a really bad memory.
07:48 And after going through this for like over a week,
07:51 you can't really remember what you talked about
07:52 the first day.
07:53 So that really helped me.
07:55 And also ranking them, giving them a star
07:56 from one to five, how I felt in the house.
07:58 So at the end of the week,
07:59 when I'm just kind of making the last decision,
08:02 I can look back and be like,
08:03 oh, you know what, I gave this house five stars
08:05 every single day.
08:06 Obviously, even if I don't remember,
08:08 there's something about them that I really liked
08:10 and that's really important to me.
08:11 Tip number three, take a deep breath.
08:14 So recruitment is stressful for everyone.
08:17 Whether it's the women who are already in the sorority
08:19 and they're recruiting the freshman women coming in,
08:22 or if you're a freshman or a sophomore even
08:24 and you've never been in a sorority before
08:26 and you don't know what to expect,
08:28 it is stressful for everyone.
08:29 So don't worry, you're not alone.
08:31 Just take a deep breath and just do the best you can.
08:33 Tip number four, put your best face forward
08:36 and treat it like a job interview.
08:37 So when you go to a job interview,
08:39 you're gonna obviously dress nicer than you normally would,
08:41 you're gonna be smiling the whole time,
08:43 you're not gonna be showing,
08:44 even if you're in a bad mood or your stomach hurts,
08:46 you're not gonna be showing that,
08:47 you're not gonna be talking about that.
08:48 So the same thing kind of applies for recruitment.
08:50 Even if you're having a bad day,
08:52 just put your best face forward
08:53 'cause you never know who you're gonna be talking to.
08:54 You could be talking to your future best friends.
08:56 This is just the time where they're trying
08:57 to get to know you and if you're spending
08:59 your five minutes talking about things
09:00 that you're unhappy about,
09:01 they're not spending those five minutes
09:03 really getting to know who you are as a person.
09:05 All right, tip number five,
09:06 and I feel like it's the most important tip,
09:07 just be yourself.
09:09 So when it comes to your makeup, your outfit choice,
09:11 even though I'm giving you guys some ideas to work with,
09:13 just be yourself, have fun with it,
09:15 put yourself into everything you do.
09:17 Make sure when you're going through,
09:19 and the last day when you pick a house,
09:21 make sure you just feel yourself
09:22 and make sure throughout the entire process
09:24 that you just can see yourself.
09:25 Like when you're looking around at different houses,
09:27 you can see yourself at your worst,
09:29 when you're sick and you're laying on the couch
09:31 with no makeup on, your hair's up in a bun,
09:33 make sure you can just see yourself making friends there
09:35 and just being who you are.
09:36 And that's a wrap.
09:37 So thank you guys so much for watching
09:39 my sorority recruitment makeup tutorial.
09:41 I hope this makes you guys feel more comfortable
09:42 going through, getting kind of an idea
09:44 of what it's going to look like.
09:45 Definitely just make it your own, have fun with it,
09:47 and I hope this is just a really basic guide
09:49 to get you started somewhere.
09:50 So if you guys are going through recruitment,
09:52 congratulations and good luck,
09:53 and I'll see the rest of you guys real soon.
