00:02 - Okay, today we are doing
00:04 the Simon Style stage makeup tutorial.
00:07 We're gonna try to say that 10 times fast.
00:09 Hi guys, today we are doing
00:10 the Simon Style stage makeup tutorial
00:12 and we have our special guest, Nicole.
00:15 She's our beautiful model today.
00:16 - Yay!
00:17 - Say hi, Nicole.
00:18 - Hello.
00:19 - Okay, so this makeup is for any time
00:22 you are on a stage in front of those
00:24 bright, disgusting lights that make everything turn into mush.
00:27 So, first we are going to do our foundation.
00:31 You guys bought the Ben Nye student makeup kit
00:33 and so that's what we're gonna be using today.
00:34 And that actually comes with a sponge
00:36 and a brush and eyeliner, but instead of a sponge today,
00:39 I'm gonna be using a brush because it's easier for me.
00:41 First, we're gonna start with our highlight,
00:43 which is the first little cube on your foundation palette
00:48 and it's the light color.
00:49 And you are going to put that in every space
00:52 on your face that has light.
00:54 So, Nicole, can you turn towards our light?
00:57 So, as you can see, there is light
00:59 that is hitting the forehead, the bridge of the nose,
01:01 the chin, the cheekbones, and a little bit of the jawline.
01:05 So, those are the places we're gonna highlight right now.
01:07 So, the way I like to highlight is I start in the forehead
01:11 and I do an X.
01:12 Then I continue down the bridge of the nose
01:16 because a lot of the times you will lose your nose
01:19 under the lights and then you kind of look
01:21 like a noseless creature.
01:22 I don't know any noseless creatures.
01:25 So, we're gonna go ahead and hit the cheekbone as well.
01:28 And honestly, you're just drawing lines
01:32 across them right now.
01:33 They need to be good, thick, fatty lines
01:36 because you are going to blend it out
01:40 to create your entire highlight.
01:41 And then you're gonna go to the chin right here
01:45 and then you're gonna follow the jawline.
01:47 And females, we try to lessen the defined jawline.
01:52 So, we bring our highlight in a diagonal line
01:56 across the bottom of our cheeks.
01:58 And we're gonna connect it all the way to that front chin.
02:03 We're gonna do that on the other side.
02:05 And don't be afraid to use a lot.
02:08 A lot is very good quite frequently in theater.
02:14 Okay, so the next thing you're going to use
02:16 is the brown pigment that is within
02:20 your little makeup palette.
02:22 And that is for our contour or our shadow.
02:24 And you're gonna put those in every place
02:26 that you see a shadow.
02:27 If you take a look at Nicole's face,
02:29 you will see that she has shadows under her cheekbones,
02:32 along the sides of her nose,
02:34 under her bottom lip,
02:37 under her jaw,
02:38 and in the corners of her forehead.
02:40 And along the sides of the eyes.
02:43 So, that's where we're going to apply our shadow.
02:45 And so, we're gonna apply it
02:45 directly underneath our highlight.
02:48 And I don't like to bring the cheek shadow
02:52 all the way to the corner of the nose.
02:54 And if I do, I feather it in.
02:56 Which you can do by pinching your makeup sponge in half
03:00 and create that same line.
03:02 And then I will outline in a smaller line,
03:07 we will outline the top of the jaw highlight.
03:10 And then the bottom as well.
03:13 And we're going to mirror that on the other side.
03:15 Definitely be afraid of using too much shadow,
03:18 because you can wind up looking very dirty.
03:21 And we don't wanna look dirty,
03:23 we wanna look flawless like Kim K.
03:25 So, we're gonna do the corners of the forehead
03:26 and that rounds the forehead out more,
03:28 which is more pleasing
03:30 and creates an ovalescent shape to the face.
03:33 And then we are going to get in the nose.
03:38 And I start from the tip of the eyebrow
03:40 and I bring it all the way
03:41 down both sides of the bridge of the nose.
03:44 And you are going to create an X right here.
03:46 And then we're gonna come down the other side
03:51 and do the same thing.
03:53 And so we're creating an X right there.
03:55 So, the last one that we are missing
03:57 is up the sides of the eye.
03:59 And what that does is it narrows our face.
04:02 Forgot one.
04:03 Right now, Nicole kind of looks
04:05 like a crazy tribal princess.
04:06 And that's what she is for a few more minutes.
04:11 So, we're gonna go ahead and blend now.
04:13 And what you're gonna do is I'm gonna use
04:14 the makeup sponge for this part
04:16 because sometimes the corners of brushes
04:19 can cut people's faces and they hate that.
04:21 So, we are going to take the sponge
04:24 and we're gonna move it in a circular motion
04:26 to blend in this makeup.
04:32 And with the nose, I try to do the highlight first
04:39 and then I flip the side of the sponge
04:43 and I will bring the shadow up.
04:45 So, the reason that we apply stage makeup
04:50 is because your parents all pay such good money
04:54 for tickets to see your bright and shining face.
04:57 And if you're not wearing makeup,
04:59 you're not going to see said face.
05:02 So, we make sure our families get our money's worth.
05:06 Best makeup tool is your fingers.
05:12 (upbeat music)
05:14 (upbeat music)
05:17 (upbeat music)
05:19 (upbeat music)
05:22 (upbeat music)
05:51 Okay, so now we have finished putting
05:53 all of Nicole's contouring on and we've blended it.
05:56 So, you can see that all of her features are exaggerated
06:00 and she has beautiful cheekbones and jawline
06:02 and nose contour, et cetera, et cetera.
06:04 So, now we can see her from 50 feet away.
06:07 So, next thing, the most important thing in my opinion
06:10 is your eye makeup.
06:12 And you want to make sure that you contour the eyes as well.
06:15 And so, what you're going to do
06:16 is take that first highlight
06:18 and you are going to place it on the brow bone.
06:22 And you can go all the way from the corner of the eye
06:26 out, 'cause that's what I do.
06:31 Same thing on the other side.
06:34 Also, if you're going to go ahead
06:36 and put an eyeshadow on top of this,
06:38 it gives it a really good foundation
06:39 to hold it throughout the melting foundation of lights.
06:44 And then you are going to go ahead
06:45 and take that shadow, close your eyes one more time for me,
06:49 and you're going to go from the corner
06:51 and darken the outer corner of that lid.
06:53 If you choose to, you can go throughout the entire crease.
06:57 And then you can just blend that out by taking your thumb,
07:02 close your eyes for me,
07:03 you take your thumb and pull directly outwards
07:07 and blend it right into your eye contour.
07:10 (upbeat music)
07:13 Perfect, so it's like you're wearing eyeshadow,
07:20 but you're not.
07:21 It's something that's going to last much longer
07:23 and show up under the lights.
07:25 So the next part of our eye is going to be the eyeliner.
07:28 You guys were provided
07:29 with a nice little brown eyeliner pencil.
07:32 And so you're going to take that.
07:34 And for females, I like to create
07:37 just the littlest bit of a wing.
07:40 And close your eyes for me.
07:42 So what I do is I pull the lid back just a little bit
07:44 and I create a diagonal line.
07:48 And I usually don't do a heavy diagonal line.
07:53 And I bring it all the way in
07:57 and make sure that you get underneath the lid
07:59 in that lash line so that when she opens her eyes,
08:02 you will see that.
08:03 And then I blend it out.
08:06 We use eyeliner to accentuate the lashes
08:09 and to line the eyes so that it pops.
08:12 Go ahead and close your eye one more time for me.
08:14 And I like to go back through one more time underneath
08:17 and just deepen that color back up after I blended it out.
08:20 Check that out.
08:22 And then on the underside of the lid,
08:26 we are going to pull the lid down.
08:28 Go ahead and look up in that direction for me.
08:30 And you are going to take the tip of the eyeliner pencil
08:32 and apply it to the waterline of the lid.
08:35 And I go about halfway.
08:38 And bring it to where the pupil would sit
08:41 if she was looking directly out.
08:43 And then I apply a little bit underneath the lashes
08:48 to accentuate those bottom lashes.
08:51 And so we're gonna do the same thing to the other side.
08:54 Now she is lined for crazy intense light.
08:58 So even if you are sitting in the back row of the theater,
09:00 you can still see her bright eyes.
09:03 So lastly, for the actual eyes,
09:06 we are going to apply mascara,
09:09 which did not come in that Ben Nye kit,
09:11 but you can use any sort of mascara.
09:13 My favorite is Revlon,
09:15 the one that comes in the pink and green tube.
09:17 It's best if you have your model look down
09:19 and you apply upwards.
09:23 And you're gonna wiggle your way through the lashes.
09:27 I am currently using the Makeup Forever Basic Mascara.
09:32 It's my current favorite thing.
09:36 We wanna make sure that we get a good coating
09:37 on these lashes.
09:38 You're gonna go top and bottom.
09:40 And I like to take the tip of the mascara applicator
09:44 and kind of fan out these lashes.
09:46 You may choose to curl them.
09:47 I don't always do that, especially with a younger cast.
09:50 Okay, so one side is done on top,
09:51 and we are going to apply a small amount to the bottom.
09:54 If you go ahead and look up this direction for me.
09:56 Have your actor look in the opposite direction
09:59 of where you are applying makeup to.
10:06 Then they cannot see you jabbing at their eye with makeup.
10:10 So we just did Nicole's one eye,
10:11 and we are going to do the other.
10:13 And so because I am right-handed and this is her right eye,
10:16 I am going to have to use my finger as a tripod
10:21 and go towards her eye.
10:23 Go ahead, look down for me.
10:25 And you can also come at it from the opposite angle.
10:34 (upbeat music)
10:37 And check it out.
10:43 Her eye makeup is for the most part finished.
10:46 Now all that's left is her eyebrows,
10:49 which you will again use that contour palette for.
10:54 You're gonna go ahead and use that brown color
10:56 and the straight edged brush that they gave you.
11:00 And you're going to start from the underneath of the eyebrow
11:03 and follow your way along.
11:05 And I like to extend people's eyebrows out
11:13 just a little bit so that we get the full effect.
11:16 And what you're gonna do is you're gonna come back
11:19 and sweep your way through the eyebrow.
11:21 (upbeat music)
11:24 (upbeat music)
11:27 You don't ever want to get a large buildup of eyebrow
11:40 makeup right here in this point
11:43 because it will make them almost look like
11:45 they have a unibrow even if they don't.
11:47 We're gonna make sure to fill in the arch of the eyebrow
11:53 and extend through the tail.
11:57 And now she has the world's most perfect eyebrow.
12:02 And we're going to attempt to mimic that on the other side.
12:05 Please be aware guys, they are sisters not twins.
12:09 So you're going to end up with like big caterpillars
12:13 if you try to keep matching both sides.
12:15 (upbeat music)
12:22 Okay, check it out guys.
12:24 Now she has eyebrows.
12:26 And I like to fade off the corners of the eyebrows
12:30 so it doesn't look so filled in.
12:34 All right, so now she has two beautiful eyebrows.
12:38 Next on our agenda and almost lastly is the lip color,
12:43 which you are going to use the pink red portion
12:47 of that little palette that you guys received.
12:50 So the lipstick in my kit actually ran out.
12:55 So I am going to go ahead and just use
12:57 a red liquid lipstick on Nicole.
12:59 Which is also extremely typical of Cedar.
13:08 Actually, so first you want to start
13:15 by lining the lips with that.
13:17 (upbeat music)
13:19 Brush.
13:22 And you want to go on that little white line
13:27 that is barely visible on the outside of people's lips.
13:30 And then you will fill in.
13:34 (upbeat music)
13:38 And I switched application tools.
13:46 I am now using the Kat Von D liquid lipstick applicator.
13:51 And when you come to the upper lip,
13:52 you're gonna make an X with that Cupid's bow
13:55 so that we get that perfect line in the center.
13:59 Check that out, perfection.
14:02 Beautiful.
14:03 Okay, now open a little bit for me.
14:07 Just like on the bottom lip,
14:12 we're gonna follow that nice little white line
14:15 that surrounds the lip.
14:15 Go ahead and open a little bit more.
14:17 Now we have beautiful stage makeup.
14:29 Thanks for watching guys.
