00:00 Hi everyone, Lala here, known as lalasabdis on Instagram, Cosmoprofitistic team member
00:08 and today a guest artist for Sexy Hair taking over Hairbrain's official Facebook page.
00:16 We're going to go over a live demo today.
00:18 The first thing that I want to go over is the products that I will be using today and
00:23 then I want to share some tips and tricks with you guys about curling the hair and how
00:29 to make those curls last longer because that's one of the most requested questions through
00:36 my direct message and through email.
00:38 Most of the times people are complaining about that so I want to share with you how to achieve
00:43 those curls and how to make them last longer.
00:45 But first let's go a little bit over what we use to prep the hair.
00:49 We previously prepped the hair, we curled it with a 3/8 inch curling iron.
00:59 I love to use this one.
01:00 I know it looks like you might use this only for very small curls but this is actually
01:05 the curls that you can achieve with this.
01:08 And that's the reason I love this one so much because it gives me that texturized natural
01:13 curl.
01:14 So this was the tool that we used.
01:16 It's from Hot Tools, available in all Cosmoprof stores.
01:21 And after I curl the hair I use the dry texture hairspray from the Healthy Sexy Hair line.
01:28 I love this one because it gives me that texturized look and that's what we're going for today.
01:34 Now meanwhile I'm doing the demo.
01:38 Guys, please feel free to put any questions.
01:40 Hopefully I know the answer.
01:41 I might look like I know it all but I don't.
01:44 So I left a few pieces out just to show you how I'm curling the hair, how I achieve that
01:49 volume at the roots without actually teasing the hair and how to make those curls last
01:54 longer.
01:55 So one of the first things that I want to go over is how to make those curls last longer.
02:00 Okay, number one reason why our curls are not lasting when we curl hair is because we
02:06 rush to put that curling iron into that piece of the hair without actually brushing the
02:11 product into the hair.
02:13 So every time we're brushing, and probably you see most of the times a deposit of that
02:19 hairspray or product that you're using usually burn on your curling iron.
02:23 That means that that product didn't really get into that section of the hair, it actually
02:28 got burned on your curling iron.
02:30 And that's because we do not brush the product into the hair.
02:33 And that's number one reason curls are not lasting longer.
02:36 So every time we actually use, this is the hairspray that I'm using, every time I go
02:40 for boho styles or texturized styles which are usually loose, I like to use a flexible
02:46 hairspray.
02:47 This is my to-go for boho styles and texturized.
02:50 It's a weightless spray.
02:52 It doesn't give that stiffness to the hair.
02:55 It's very flexible.
02:56 You can go back and brush those curls and use it again and you're not going to get that
03:01 stiffness of the hair.
03:02 This is the weightless hairspray from the Sexy Hair line.
03:06 So every time I do curls, we have to apply product top to the, I'm sorry, from the roots
03:15 to the ends.
03:16 Okay, that's one thing that we're doing.
03:18 Top and bottom, not just the bottom.
03:20 We want that hairspray in all that piece of hair.
03:24 And we are going to brush that product into the hair.
03:28 This is again number one reason your curls are not lasting because we're just spraying
03:32 that product.
03:33 We do not get the hair penetrated by that product and then we just put straight the
03:38 curling iron.
03:39 Now, how do we achieve, most of the times when I have clients coming to me for curly
03:45 down-dos, that's the number one complaint that I hear.
03:50 My curls didn't last it.
03:52 So every time we do that, make sure that you brush the hair to get the product into the
03:56 hair.
03:57 And one of the things that they require when they come for those curly down-dos, they like
04:01 to see that volume at the roots without the teasing.
04:04 Because most of the times when we do the teasing, we lose the curls at the roots.
04:09 So they would love to see those curls intact at the roots, but in the same time get that
04:13 volume.
04:14 So that's what I'm going to go over with you right now.
04:17 I will show you how to achieve that volume at the roots without actually teasing the
04:20 hair.
04:21 And the secret is to over-direct the hair.
04:24 And of course, hairspray top to bottom.
04:26 So when I'm grabbing my curling iron, my curling iron will never sit underneath the section.
04:33 It will probably sit anywhere two fingers away from the section.
04:38 And by doing that, I'm actually over-directing the hair and I achieve that.
04:42 Let me put a little bit of more hairspray.
04:44 I love to put a little bit of more hairspray at the roots just to make sure that I get
04:49 that bump, that volume at the roots that I'm looking for.
04:55 Now we're taking the curling iron.
04:57 I usually do this a little bit and I'm curling while I keep my curling iron at least two
05:05 fingers away from the scalp.
05:07 And again, when I'm doing that, I'm over-directing the hair.
05:10 And that's how we get that volume at the roots without actually teasing the hair.
05:17 And meanwhile, again, if you guys have any questions, please feel free to ask.
05:21 My voice is shaking because I'm a little bit nervous.
05:25 I always am until I start working and then I relax.
05:30 And there you go, guys.
05:31 Can you guys see the lift that we got from the scalp without actually teasing?
05:35 We have like almost two fingers volume at the roots without actually teasing the hair.
05:43 So that's how we achieve that volume and keeping the curls intact, which is most of the clients
05:50 that come to you for those curly styles, that's what they like to see.
05:54 So hairspray.
05:55 I'm sorry.
05:56 I took the texturizing hairspray.
05:57 Hairspray top to bottom for those of you that are just joining us.
06:06 Brushing the product into the hair is very important.
06:08 Otherwise, your curls are not going to last.
06:11 And when I'm brushing this, I don't know if you noticed, but when I'm brushing the section,
06:15 I'm brushing this away.
06:16 So I'm over-directing while I'm brushing.
06:19 And I'm preparing the hair for my curling iron.
06:24 And most of the times I go with a little bit of more product at the roots just to make
06:28 sure that I get that lift from the scalp and that the hair is going to stay in that position.
06:33 Do we have any questions?
06:34 Not so far.
06:35 Just hello from Northern Michigan.
06:36 Hello, everyone.
06:37 So the style we are going to go over today, it's going to be kind of like a textured curly
06:48 style, and we're going to incorporate the braid into that.
06:51 Why we chose to go over the style, because that's one of the most requested styles in
06:55 a chair, in a bridal chair.
06:58 And braids were very popular in the last two years.
07:01 They are not going away.
07:03 Probably you're going to get a lot of the brides or the bridesmaids coming to you for
07:06 those braids incorporated into updos.
07:11 So that's how we achieved that lift from the scalp by over-directing the hair.
07:18 That way we keep the curls intact.
07:21 We're not messing with them.
07:23 Usually I let the hair dry, meaning cooling down.
07:28 And then I'm just running my fingers through it.
07:31 And most of the times I love to put a little bit of this just to give it a little bit of
07:35 a shine.
07:36 Because every time we use a dry texture spray, it has the tendency to take the shine away
07:45 from the hair.
07:46 There we go.
07:47 Are you twisting the hair while you wrap around the wand?
07:49 What was the question?
07:50 Are you twisting the hair while you wrap around the wand?
07:53 Not necessarily.
07:55 If you're looking to achieve more of a wavy look, then you should twist.
07:58 If you're looking just for curls, then you don't really have to twist.
08:02 So that's how we achieved that curl.
08:04 Now, every time I do updos that have braids incorporated, I do not like to section the
08:10 hair before.
08:11 And the reason for that, most of the times, and I did this in the beginning as well.
08:18 I don't think it's a certain rule, but I recommend that you try this.
08:21 Try to start with the braid first and then work your way through that updo.
08:27 I don't know if you guys are looking on Instagram and most of the times people are tagging you
08:31 and you look and the styles are absolutely beautiful, but you see that line of demarcation
08:36 between the front piece, the braid, and the back.
08:39 So, and I personally don't like that.
08:43 I have a lot of clients that sit in my chair and they don't like that.
08:46 And in the beginning I didn't know how to fix that.
08:48 So I have discovered that if I start my styles, especially the ones that have a braid incorporated,
08:53 if I start them with the braid first, I have the flexibility to grab the section of the
09:00 hair kind of like in a zigzag pattern, which allows me to kind of prevent that line of
09:07 demarcation to form between the front section and the back.
09:11 So that's why I like to start with the braid.
09:14 So that's what I'm going to do.
09:16 I'm going to go over the braid first.
09:21 And once again, the reason I start with the braid is because it gives me the flexibility
09:24 to kind of like choose my sections, go in a zigzag pattern and prevent that line of
09:31 demarcation between the front, the braid, and the bottom, I'm sorry, the top part.
09:38 So we'd like to know what's your recommendation for the old Hollywood vintage styles.
09:44 As far as what?
09:45 I didn't mention.
09:46 Product or curling iron or...
09:47 I'm going to start.
09:55 So we're going over the first section.
09:58 As you notice, I put a little bit of oil hairspray on that.
10:04 Even if I'm messing with the curls, I don't really care because I am braiding this.
10:08 Why do I like to do this?
10:10 It will give me the flexibility to pull and keep that braid cleaner.
10:15 And not only that, but it will give it shine and it will make it like kind of like stand
10:19 out.
10:20 That's the reason I'm using oil hairspray on the section that I'm building my braid.
10:27 We're going to go for a fishtail.
10:31 And now you will see what I'm talking about the flexibility of choosing my section.
10:36 So now probably if we would have the hair section in four or whatever, we would have
10:42 this all pulled on the back.
10:43 So I don't have a lot of flexibility to choose my sections, but being open and not having
10:47 the hair section kind of gives me the flexibility to take my section from here and my next one
10:52 from here and the next one from here.
10:54 So again, going in a zigzag pattern.
10:59 And that will prevent that line of demarcation between the front and the top.
11:04 Taking my section again, as you guys see, I'm not taking my section from here.
11:08 I'm taking my section from here.
11:10 And my next one is going to be from here.
11:13 That's what I meant when I said I'm going in a zigzag pattern.
11:19 Now if you go for this kind of style on a real person, probably the hair is going to
11:24 be a little bit cleaner.
11:25 You're not going to have that many flyaways.
11:27 The texture is a little bit different than human hair.
11:31 So expect to have a cleaner look on a real person.
11:36 And if you guys notice, I took my previous section from here and now I'm going for my
11:41 next section right here.
11:46 And this braid, it's going to be pinned on the back, which means that my body position
11:55 is very important.
11:56 If I'm trying to bring this over here on the back and pin it on my bun or whatever I'm
12:01 building on the back, that means that my body position has to follow the direction where
12:05 I'm going with that braid.
12:07 If I'm going to sit over here, I'm going to over-direct the hair.
12:11 And when I'm trying to do this, I'm going to have a bump in here.
12:15 So always have in mind the direction of where you're trying to get that hair and your body
12:20 should follow.
12:22 So let's keep going with the braid.
12:27 Do we have any more questions?
12:29 No, these people are thanking you for doing a great job.
12:34 The way you explain your style is phenomenal.
12:37 Thank you so much guys.
12:39 Means a lot.
12:41 And you see how as I started to braid, I keep changing my body position.
12:47 Now I'm going more towards the back.
12:49 I'm not sitting on the side anymore.
12:54 This is where I'm trying to bring my braid.
12:56 So my body position has to follow.
13:04 If you guys want to enhance that more, you can go back and pull.
13:09 My recommendation for you when you have any braids incorporated in your styles is to try
13:17 to not put a lot of product into that section where you're going to have the braid.
13:22 The cleaner the hair is going to be, the more cleaner the braid is going to be.
13:28 Because the hair is clean, so you do have the flexibility to pull without having any
13:31 resistance from any texturizing hairspray or whatever you would put on the hair to prep.
13:38 So I always make sure that the section that I'm going to choose to do that braid, it's
13:45 a little bit cleaner than the rest of the hair and it doesn't have any product into
13:48 it.
13:49 So let's continue with this.
13:51 Someone invited you to Buffalo, New York for a workshop.
13:59 I will be actually in Brooklyn next month for a workshop.
14:08 Another tip that I want to share with you as far as the braids go, guys, in order to
14:14 keep those clean, that's I think one of the most requested tips when I do classes or hair
14:22 shows.
14:23 Everyone is asking me, "How do you achieve those big braids and how do you keep them
14:26 clean?"
14:27 The number one secret for me, and please don't take what I'm telling you as a rule, okay?
14:32 Whatever you discover working for you, please use that.
14:35 What I have discovered working the best for me as far as braids goes and keep them clean
14:39 and make them bigger, number one is to not have any product into the hair.
14:43 When the hair is cleaner, I have the flexibility to pull as much as I want without having any
14:47 resistance.
14:48 Second, I pull as I go.
14:51 I never go with the braid all the way down, secure, and then start to braid because the
14:55 braid is going to be secure by the technique itself, by the braid, and it's going to be
15:01 double secure by the rubber band.
15:03 So it's going to be really hard for you to go back and start to pull.
15:06 It's going to become messier and messier because you keep touching that hair versus of pulling
15:11 as you're going when you're touching that hair just once.
15:15 Make sense?
15:17 And I'll show you guys what I'm talking about.
15:19 Usually I go with three, four, five rows and then I go back and I pull.
15:23 Can you guys see the flexibility that I have to pull versus of having the hair secure by
15:28 the braid itself?
15:31 Can you guys see how easy it is to go and pull?
15:40 And most of the times I'm trying to use my nails instead of my fingertips.
15:46 Actually my nails are so long that I can't even touch them with my finger.
15:51 I'm using the nails because it helps me fan the braid more.
15:57 I prefer to fan it versus of pulling because it keeps it cleaner.
16:03 Can you do a close up so they see what I'm doing?
16:06 Can you guys see how I'm fanning this?
16:11 So I'm not really pulling, I'm actually fanning.
16:13 And you see because the hair is not secure by the braid yet and the rubber band, I have
16:19 the flexibility to go back and pull more and make it as big as I want.
16:30 I think I'm going to stop right here with this.
16:32 I'll do two, three more rows and then we're getting to build that updo.
16:38 And meanwhile, again, if you guys have any questions, please feel free to ask.
16:42 Even if it's not related to this particular style, we're going over kind of like a boho
16:49 updo with the braid incorporated.
16:54 We previously prepped the hair with dry texture hairspray from the Healthy Line from Sexy
17:02 Hair.
17:05 And we used a small curling iron from Hot Tools.
17:09 Can you guys see?
17:13 I have a preference for fishtail braids because those are lasting longer.
17:19 Let me go a little bit over that with you, especially if you're going over those big
17:23 braids.
17:24 When we do those big braids, in order to achieve those big braids, we pull a lot.
17:29 So when we pull a lot, the braids are going to be very loose.
17:32 They are not going to last longer.
17:35 And I have been looking a lot into how I can make those braids last longer.
17:40 So I have discovered that every time I have a client that sits in my chair and they request
17:45 one of those big braids, if I go for the fishtail technique instead of the Dutch or the French,
17:51 the fishtail lasts longer.
17:53 And the reason for that is the technique itself.
17:55 The technique itself makes the braid more secure than the Dutch and the French.
18:02 Please go home and take a mannequin doll and try to practice all those three and you will
18:06 see what I'm talking about.
18:07 Every time we pull a big braid that is Dutch or French, it becomes looser and looser, which
18:13 we all know it's not going to last more than half an hour.
18:16 And I have discovered when I do the fishtail, because the way we're braiding the hair, we're
18:21 kind of like building a layer on top of another layer.
18:24 This is how we do the fishtail.
18:26 And that technique itself just makes the braid more secure.
18:30 Now, you might have people that do not like the fishtail.
18:34 They like the French.
18:35 They like those round edges.
18:37 And we all know that the fishtail is kind of like a V.
18:40 So how do you make a fishtail look like a French?
18:42 I don't know if you guys noticed, we did a fishtail, but it looks like a French here.
18:48 And the reason for that is when I grab my section, I grab them really thick.
18:53 So the thicker the sections, the more that fishtail braid is going to look like a Dutch
18:59 or a French.
19:01 The thinner the sections, the more it's going to look like a fishtail.
19:04 So in order to make that fishtail look like a French braid, your section should be thicker.
19:09 So you have those round edges.
19:12 And that's how you make those big braids last longer, by using a different technique, but
19:16 making it look like a French or a Dutch.
19:18 I don't know why you're using such a small iron.
19:25 If you guys take a look at this, every time I get people who like to go for those natural
19:33 textured curls, this is the way to achieve those.
19:36 If you guys take a look at this, it truly looks like it's their natural hair.
19:41 Doesn't it?
19:43 So that's the reason I like to use that one.
19:46 Now, there is a trick about that one as well, because if you're taking really small sections,
19:51 your curls are going to look more like very small tight curls, versus of this, the way
19:59 we achieved these, my sections were very thick.
20:05 So the bigger the sections, the bigger the curls are going to be, even if you're using
20:09 a small curling iron.
20:10 The smaller the section, the tighter and the smaller the curls are going to be.
20:15 That's the reason I love to use that, because it gives me that natural curl texture look.
20:20 And that was the reason I used that one.
20:22 This one, from Hato.
20:23 - Did you take out the tongue?
20:25 - What was that?
20:26 - Did you take out the tongue?
20:28 - Yes, I did.
20:29 I like to use it more like a wand than a curling iron.
20:34 I like to do everything fast.
20:36 Okay, let's go back to this.
20:39 We got our volume in here.
20:42 We left one section out.
20:45 And now, do we have any questions?
20:49 - Well, somebody suggested to turn the comments off, because they cannot see the stuff.
20:55 - We cannot do that, because we have to answer questions.
20:58 - I'll try to keep the image on the top part.
21:03 - So I always like to leave the top out.
21:08 That's just my extra hair to cover whatever needs to be covered on the back.
21:12 So I'm just taking the crown section out.
21:16 Most of the times when I do updos, I love to, let me pull this a little bit higher.
21:23 I always leave the sides out as well.
21:26 That's my extra hair to cover whatever needs to be covered.
21:29 I always use regular elastics when I do my updos.
21:33 Most of my clientele, they have really thick hair, very coarse.
21:36 And I have discovered that the small rubber bands are always breaking, and you don't want
21:40 that to happen.
21:41 So this is the safest choice.
21:45 We're going to do this.
21:46 Every time I go for the curly texturized updos, unless they want very defined curls, this
21:54 is my way to go when I do those.
21:57 Super fast and super easy.
22:00 We're securing this in a ponytail.
22:04 And then I'm twisting halfway.
22:10 And let me put my magnetic bracelet in here.
22:15 This is one tool that you should not miss from your kit.
22:18 It's going to save you a lot of time instead of reaching out for each bobby pin and doing
22:23 this constantly.
22:25 It's right here.
22:26 You don't even have to move your hands from your client's scalp.
22:29 It's available in all Cosmoprof stores.
22:32 So I'm taking sections out of this.
22:37 And I'm just pinning.
22:42 Simple as that.
22:56 And usually I go over those ends when I'm done.
22:59 It doesn't matter the curl pattern when doing this particular upstyle?
23:03 Not really.
23:07 I used to overthink everything in the beginning of my career in the bridal industry.
23:12 Eventually I learned to just go with the flow and not overthink so much things.
23:21 As long as I feel it's secure and it looks good, this is what I'm doing.
23:29 So I'm pretty...
23:30 What was that?
23:31 What kind of bobby pins do you use?
23:33 I buy the ones from a Cellibuda supply that they come in a plastic jar.
23:43 And sometimes from Cosmoprof stores.
23:46 It's usually these two stores, Cosmoprof or Cellibuda supply.
23:52 So pinning one more.
23:56 Now please have in mind guys that when you do this on a real person it's probably going
24:00 to be way cleaner.
24:02 The texture on this doll, she's been through a lot.
24:07 She traveled all the way from China to be with me here today.
24:11 My beautiful model.
24:17 And because we're filming the close up always looks a little bit messier.
24:22 When you take a few steps back you're going to love the results.
24:26 I recommend you to do that when you have clients as well.
24:29 The more you stay close to them the more you're going to feel like you have to fix it.
24:33 So always step back and take a look for a few steps away.
24:37 Where did you get the bracelet again?
24:43 The bracelet is available in all Cosmoprof stores.
24:53 If your client wants hair hanging in there and most of the times when they come for this
24:57 kind of styles they do like to see some sections hanging in there.
25:01 I recommend you to leave those out as you go.
25:04 Do not wait until you're done because it's going to be hard to pull those sections out
25:09 once you're done.
25:11 You guys see I just left a few hanging in there.
25:19 We built our base.
25:21 Now we're pulling this down.
25:22 I'll go with a little bit of hair oil spray on this one too.
25:29 Now please have in mind that we did the curls with a very small curling iron to achieve
25:34 this natural curl texture.
25:37 So those curls are not going to go anywhere.
25:40 So don't be afraid to put that oil hair spray thinking that that's not going to last.
25:44 Most of the times I like the top.
25:46 I like to take the top and criss cross it.
25:48 That way I know I'm not going to have any gaps or any holes in there.
25:59 When I criss cross them at the same time I'm twisting because I want to keep those curls.
26:05 So we're going to pin again.
26:10 Can you guys see what we did so far?
26:26 And as I'm pinning the rest of it I'm twisting again to make those curls more defined.
26:38 There is not a specific way to go.
26:40 Just fill in the spots.
26:45 And don't worry about these.
26:47 You're going to go and pick some.
26:48 Some of them are going to be pinned.
26:50 Some of them are going to hang in there.
26:53 Can you style it with that much shorter hair?
27:01 Yes, absolutely.
27:03 If you have like collar bone hair, absolutely you can create this.
27:10 You can use for this, if they do not have the length for this bun on the back to make
27:16 it look fuller.
27:17 I recommend you guys, especially if they have short hair, I recommend you to go and buy
27:21 one of those donuts, the small ones, especially if the hair is not very long.
27:26 And just use one of those donuts as your base and it's just going to make that style look
27:30 fuller if the hair is short.
27:33 And I'm going to pin again.
27:38 How long did it take you to curl the whole thing?
27:41 Because we're taking very thick sections, probably 15 minutes.
27:45 Depending on your client's hair.
27:46 This is a mannequin doll.
27:47 It took me like approximately 15 minutes to do this.
27:52 On a regular person, probably it's going to take you a little bit more.
27:56 But here it's going to look like it's their own natural curl.
28:00 Someone would like to see your workstation.
28:03 My workstation?
28:04 This one or that one?
28:09 You can show them around while I'm just pinning these sections.
28:12 Let me show them the other models.
28:18 The other models that travel all the way from China?
28:31 Do you guys have any other questions related to any other styles or anything that you're
28:36 struggling with that you would love some tips on?
28:40 Can you guys see how natural all this looks?
28:45 I'm going to define those ends a little bit.
28:53 Where did you get the card?
28:58 The what?
28:59 The card.
29:00 That one was what?
29:03 CJ Maxx I think?
29:05 I think it was CJ Maxx.
29:09 I'm going to take the other...
29:10 What's the dress for?
29:14 Guys let's focus on this.
29:16 Let's focus on what we're doing here.
29:18 We have the side sections.
29:22 We are going to incorporate this into.
29:25 As I do this, can you guys see how I continue to twist?
29:29 Because I want to keep those curls and I want to make it more defined.
29:34 I'm going to paint this.
29:45 One more time, there is not a specific way to go with your sections.
29:49 Just go with the flow and fill in where you see a gap.
29:53 Put that section in there.
29:54 How do you make very texturized, busy hair?
30:05 Fine and neat looking for an updo?
30:07 For curly downdos, whenever they come to you for those curly downdos and they want the
30:14 curls to be super clean, obviously you're not going to use any texturizing hairspray
30:19 because that gives you a messy look.
30:22 That's what we used today.
30:23 This is what we were going for today.
30:26 You will have to curl the hair as you're going.
30:29 It's the same as we do with the braids.
30:32 In order to keep those curls clean, because I get a lot of people telling me, "I curl
30:37 the hair, then I start to pin and the more I touch it, the more messier it becomes and
30:41 the more hairspray I put, it looks even messier."
30:46 The secret for that is to curl as you go.
30:53 When I say that, I'm going to leave this braid out.
31:01 I'm going to grab a section from here and pull it on the back.
31:14 Going back to curling and making frizzy hair clean, every time I get those kind of clients,
31:21 I always start curling the hair from the top.
31:25 What am I doing?
31:26 I take one section from the side.
31:28 I always go side to side because when I pin those, I crisscross them because I don't want
31:33 to see any gaps in between the sections.
31:36 Every time I'm trying to go for those clean curly looks, I'm taking one section from the
31:42 side, I put hairspray top to bottom, I brush the product into that section of the hair,
31:49 I curl the hair, I drop that curl and I let that to cool down.
31:54 Meanwhile, I go on the other side, I curl another section, I leave that to cool down.
31:58 By the time I'm done with the section on the right side, this one on the left had time
32:04 to cool down, so I will just take that, I will put a little bit of mousse in my hand
32:10 and I'm going to twist, I'm going to have a twisting movement.
32:14 I'm going to go over that curl, over that section of the hair like this.
32:20 And when I do that, with that amount of product that I put in my hands, the mousse, I'm kind
32:27 of like grabbing all the flyaways.
32:30 Can you guys see?
32:31 Only by doing that, by doing this, the curl is already cleaner.
32:34 Now in the beginning I used to use oil or I used to use molding paste for that, but
32:41 in California it gets really hot, so it was messy with my curls, especially for the downdo
32:46 curls, the curling downdos.
32:52 So I have discovered that when I started to use mousse instead of any molding paste or
32:57 an oil based product, my curls were staying that way.
33:01 So that's how you keep them clean, you curl and you pin as you go and you grab each section
33:07 after you've curled it and you go with a little bit of mousse over it by doing this movement.
33:12 Did that answer your question?
33:19 And now we're finished.
33:20 Someone loves your work, please make more videos.
33:22 More videos, I am trying my best guys, between doing a, taking care of my business, doing
33:29 hair shows, classes, private classing, being a mom and a wife, I'm trying my best.
33:38 Wife is the hardest.
33:41 Wife is the hardest, who said that?
33:45 No, I did.
33:46 That was my husband guys.
33:48 My husband is holding the phone and he said being a wife is the hardest.
33:55 We're taking another section and I'm twisting as I go because this is a loose, I'm not going
34:03 to go very tight when I pull those sections on the back.
34:07 I'm going for more like a loose look.
34:11 Do you curl the hair one way or do you alternate?
34:20 I alternate.
34:21 I always alternate.
34:23 Otherwise the curls are going to have only one pattern.
34:26 They're going to go one direction.
34:28 And especially when I'm going for these messy styles, you have to go different.
34:33 But when the roots are still freezing.
34:37 Honestly if you take that section, like in the beginning, I don't know who put this question,
34:42 if you guys were there in the beginning when we first started.
34:46 If not you have time to go back and rewatch it from the beginning.
34:49 I left two sections out right when we started and I went over each section.
34:54 If you do the brushing really well with a really good brush, my favorite ones are the
34:59 teasing brushes from Olivia Garden.
35:03 It gives me like a very clean sectioning and a very clean teasing and a very clean combing.
35:10 So if you're putting that hairspray top to bottom at least twice on that section of the
35:15 hair and you brush the product into the hair and then after it's curled you go with that
35:19 mousse as I told you, it's going to be clean.
35:23 And I don't know if you guys noticed in the beginning when I did the curling I went a
35:26 little bit with the curling iron over the section of the hair.
35:31 And I tried to kind of smooth it out and take those flyaways away.
35:38 And we're almost done with this.
35:48 Let me show you guys what we did so far.
35:53 This is our beautiful Tessa.
35:58 I'm going to take this and split it in two just to get more of the fine curls into that
36:10 bun.
36:18 And I'm glad we did the curling first.
36:20 You guys probably would be bored by now.
36:45 Of course when you do these make sure that you're using bobby pins that match the color
36:50 of your client.
36:51 Most of the times we see beautiful updos out there and we can see the bobby pins because
36:56 they don't match the color of your client's hair.
36:59 We want to prevent that.
37:09 If you put enough bobby pins this should last.
37:12 And if you feel like it's not secure enough, especially for clients that have fine hair,
37:16 again I recommend you to use one of those small doughnuts as a base.
37:21 And for sure that's not going to go anywhere.
37:25 And now we're going to incorporate the braid into this.
37:33 And we're going to pin this on the other side.
37:44 Usually with the pieces left from the braid I go when I'm done and I just curl them a
37:49 little bit and I kind of blend them in with the style when I do that on a real person.
38:00 Usually those have the tendency to go down as we play with them.
38:06 There we go.
38:09 Now you might have clients who have this length in the front but they want some pieces
38:18 of the hair to frame their face.
38:20 They don't like to have everything pulled on the back.
38:25 What do we do when we have this kind of length in the front?
38:28 Because if you leave these hanging in here, obviously it's not going to look good.
38:32 So when I have those kind of clients, what I usually do, I will pin my first section
38:46 and I will use that as my base to hang the other sections into it.
38:54 And I will show you guys what I'm talking about.
38:57 I will deal with this later.
39:00 And now I think I'm going to take a little bit more from this one and just pin it in
39:06 here.
39:15 Now imagine that your client has highlights or lowlights in the hair.
39:20 You could probably see the definition and the dimension of this style way better than
39:27 one solid color.
39:42 And on a real person, probably each section that I'm pinning there, I'm going to go for
39:46 at least two bobby pins for each section, not just one.
39:49 Because when it's a real person and they move a lot.
39:52 Now what do we do with this?
39:54 Like again, most of the people, they love to see some hair around their face, but leaving
39:59 one section like that is not going to look pretty if they have that length.
40:03 So I usually take this and through these two sections that I just used as my base, I'm
40:10 going to intertwine this with that.
40:18 And then one more.
40:22 And that way they do have hair framing the face, but it's not just hanging in there.
40:32 If that makes sense.
40:33 So we're just intertwining those sections.
40:39 And then we can go and just pin one and just leave it hanging in there.
40:48 Can you guys see?
40:49 So we do have the hair framing the face, but it's not just hanging in there as one section.
40:56 And if you feel like it's loose, you can go back and just recurl it a little bit, but
41:01 don't go crazy with the curls because everything else is loose.
41:05 So you want to match these curls with whatever is going on on the back.
41:22 Now can you guys see what I meant by that line of demarcation?
41:28 Can you guys, let's do it a little bit further.
41:33 Usually when we have a braid incorporated, you're going to see like a straight line here,
41:36 a straight line here.
41:38 That was the reason I started with the braid first, because it allows you to kind of play
41:41 with your sections, go in a zigzag pattern and not see that harsh line of demarcation
41:46 between the front piece, the braid and the top section.
41:55 Let me go all the way around for you guys to see what we did.
42:00 So this is how you achieve like a naturally curling look.
42:06 Once again, this style on a real person probably is going to be way cleaner.
42:10 The texture of the hair is completely different than a mannequin doll.
42:14 Your curls are probably going to be shinier.
42:17 You're not going to have a lot of frizz going on.
42:20 You might get clients that have fine hair and you're going to deal with this.
42:23 If that's the case, when you curl the hair, before you start to do this style, take section
42:29 by section, put a little bit of mousse in your hand and go over those sections and try
42:34 to kind of like get rid of those flyaways.
42:37 I hope you guys enjoyed it.
42:39 Again, this was Lala Subduz taking over HairBrainz Facebook page as a guest artist for Sexy Hair.
42:48 I'm going to the Spring Style Show this weekend.
42:53 For those of you who are going to San Jose for that show, hopefully I'm going to meet
42:58 you there.
42:59 If you're going, please come and say hi.
43:00 I have two classes.
43:02 I would love to meet all of you.
43:04 If you have any questions, I will try my best to go back and respond to all of them.
43:09 Thank you for joining us today.
43:11 Thank you, HairBrainz, for having me.
43:13 Thank you, Sexy Hair, for treating me so good.
43:16 Hopefully you guys enjoyed it.
43:17 Again, if you have any questions, I will go back and answer to all of those.
43:22 Let me go one more time over the product that we used.
43:25 We curled the hair with 3/8" of a curling iron from Hot Tools.
43:33 These are available at Cosmocraft stores.
43:38 After I curled the hair, I put the dry texture spray from the Healthy line from Sexy Hair
43:45 to give it this textured look.
43:49 When we curled, we used for each section the weightless hairspray.
43:55 I love this because it's very flexible, very light, so it's perfect for this kind of updo.
43:59 It's not going to give you that stiffness that the very...
44:08 The stronghold hairspray is giving you.
44:10 Sorry, guys.
44:11 I'm still thinking in Romanian and I have to translate all that in English, so sometimes
44:14 it takes me a little.
44:16 These are the products that we used.
44:17 That was the tool that we used.
44:19 Thank you for watching, guys, and hopefully we're going to be back soon.
