00:00 Good morning people! So, the reason that I decided to do a quick live video is that I
00:13 had learned some new techniques and I would like to share them with you. So, today Jessica
00:19 really wants to do blue, but I'll show you guys her neck color right now. Very dark.
00:32 So what we're going to be doing is, I'm actually going to be taking some of Lacey Whirl's techniques
00:38 and I'm going to be putting them to use. So, I'm already set up here. I've got Joico
00:44 Freeplay, which is a clay lightener. I've got myself all mixed up. And don't judge,
00:51 I can't find my typical ballet board that I would normally use. So, I'm going to be
00:56 using this board instead. So, I figured we can go ahead and we can get started. So, I
01:05 might have to find a way to mount this though, so don't judge. Hmm, can't really see much
01:17 from there. Where's my kid? I want to make sure you guys can see this. There we go, that
01:26 looks good. So, because I'll be working a little bit, I'm not going to be able to do
01:29 too much Q&A. Yes, this is virgin hair. My daughter is actually 11 1/2 and whenever I
01:36 put blue on her hair, it tends to look gray. So, but I am using 40 volume only because
01:42 as you'll see with the technique, we're going to be, you know, it's going to be laying over
01:47 the hair. It's not really pushing it into the hair. So, I'm going to go ahead and I'll
01:54 load my, I should have a normal paddle, but you know what? It's 9 30 and I'm just kind
02:00 of like doing my thing here. So, make sure I get a good amount on here. I'm just smoothing
02:12 the product out. You can get a good amount on here. We're keeping it on the left side
02:22 so we can keep our paddle nice and clean. We have our little work area here and I'm
02:30 also using a sprush. If you've never seen this, this is like pretty cool. It's not like
02:39 your typical brush. So, I ordered all this stuff. I'm sitting in Lacey's class. So, hi
02:43 Lacey. I'm sitting there and I'm like sitting there with Amazon and I'm like, I gotta go
02:47 ahead and do this. Hi Mel. How are you, honey? I was like, I gotta go ahead and I gotta order
02:51 this stuff. So, like I'm trying to be like, I'm trying to be like Lacey. I'm trying to
02:55 be awesome. Of course, my bowls aren't magnetic, but so we're going to go ahead and hopefully
03:01 you can see okay. I know I've got some light behind me. Let me see if I can dim that. Hopefully
03:16 that's going to make it a little bit better. Okay. I don't get a chance to go live that
03:31 often because my work area, I work all the way downstairs and the Wi-Fi down there is
03:37 absolutely dreadful. So, I was like, you know what? Let's go work in the kitchen and that
03:40 way you guys can at least see what I'm doing. So, hopefully you can see. So, the first thing
03:45 is I have her in a V shape. Okay. And what I'll also be doing is I'm going to be over
03:53 directing my section. So, I'm going to be pulling this over this way. I'll be pulling
03:57 this over this way. Again, I'll be checking in every now and then just to make sure that
04:06 you guys can see and whatnot and hopefully you can. Here we go. Awesome. All right. So,
04:16 let me take some of this stuff out of my bowl real quick. I've got my brand new mixing spatula
04:23 here. So, and if anyone's looking for this, this one is Color Track, I believe. And let
04:31 me see, I had something else I wanted to use. No? All right. So, I'm going to go ahead and
04:39 get started. So, again, I have my paddle loaded and ready to go. And what I'm going to do
04:44 is I'm going to have Jessica look down just a tiny bit because she's watching her own
04:50 show and keeping herself busy. All right. So, again, I want it more that you can see
04:54 her head and not so much me. All right. So, I'm going to try my best to do this as good
04:59 as I can. So, I'm going to take it on an angle and I'm going to pull it over towards you
05:10 guys. I have my paddle in my hand, it's a little big, and we're making sure that we're
05:16 not using the bristles. We're actually using the back end. So, I'm going to take it and
05:22 I'm just going to pull it across. So, this is kind of what you want it to look like.
05:28 You should not know this stuff. All right. I don't know how much I'll be able to use
05:31 this big-ass paddle in my hands the whole time, but, again, it's about technique. So,
05:35 what I'm going to be doing is grabbing that hair and pinching it up nice and close. And
05:44 I'm going to just start skimming over the hair. And, again, it's hard right in this
05:50 section because her hair is very, very short. But then I can lay the paddle in on an angle
05:57 to get those sections. And I'm going to pull this over real quick just so you can see what
06:09 we've got actually over here. Yes, it's laying on top. So, what I've been taught is that
06:20 actually you're going to get a much higher lift. Sorry, that's my dog. You're going to
06:26 get a higher lift. There you go. You're going to get a higher lift with it actually laying
06:32 on the hair and actually beating into the hair. So, we're going to try it out and see.
06:39 All right. Next section. So, I'm just going to come in here, lift up. Her hair is kind
06:55 of short back here, but we'll do what we've got to do. Because her hair is so short and
07:01 this paddle is so big, I'm actually going to be bypassing. But, again, make sure you
07:05 have it loaded and you're skimming over the top and you're making like little C shapes.
07:12 I'm going to bring my paddle in here on an angle just so I can paint her because I'm
07:20 struggling because her hair is so short. I hear my dog. I hear my phone. I hear everything
07:31 this morning. That's right, Luca. All right. I'm ready for my next section. Okay. So, I'm
07:43 actually going to go ahead with about another inch drop on top of that. FYI, anyone who
07:54 knows me knows I never answer my phone. What kind of lift are you going for? That's a really
07:58 great question. I'm actually trying to see if I can get her pretty close to a 10. She
08:04 likes to have multiple shades of blue. We're going to take a walk real quick and we're
08:08 going to let my hen. Yeah, you. I'm going to let him out real quick. So, I'm looking
08:17 for a pretty significant lift. She's right now about a level 7. So, I want to try to
08:26 get her pretty much as light as possible just to get what exactly I'm looking for. And I
08:34 would have actually done application roots, not roots to ends, but you know what I mean.
08:39 But my husband did not want any bleach on her head. So, right now I actually have Joico
08:48 Free Play and I have 40 volume mixed. I hope that helps. Alright, so I'm going to go right
09:06 ahead and jump into the next section here. Okay. Again, we want to make sure that we're
09:13 taking really nice thick sections. We don't want to be able to see through the hair because
09:19 then it's just going to be too weak and it's going to fall, please excuse me, it's going
09:25 to just kind of fall right through. So, you want to really not be able to see through
09:28 that section. Okay? Okay. Once again, I'm going to take from my paddle. Okay? And I'm
09:43 going to kind of choke up on it a little bit so I can get the proper tension that I need.
09:48 Jessica, do you need to change your movie? No. Good. I'm coming up and just swiping on
09:56 it. Bring my paddle over the side and that way I can just kind of pull right into it.
10:10 Let that fall down. And this is looking gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful the way it's falling
10:16 on there. Okay. Alright. I'm going to go ahead and grab my next section. Making sure that
10:32 I can't see through the section. And I'm pinching it, if you can see, I'm kind of going to pinch
10:41 nice and tight in there. Load my brush, got it loaded, and skim across it. I'm going to
11:00 grab my paddle, bring it under on the corner here so I can go ahead and just pull this
11:07 product into those ends. That's the only time you really want to even hear anything from
11:19 the brush. So at this point I'm actually going to reload my paddle. And this thing is neat
11:25 because look, just take it. It was all smooshed everywhere. That's why I love having this.
11:35 I'm just going to re-smooth it out. Yes, I am saturating the ends some just to make sure
11:50 that I'm actually getting just more depth in there. I want to make sure that it's, what's
11:57 my word that I'm looking for? I'm really bad at words. So what I'm looking for is that
12:02 true balayage look where it fades from one color into more of a heavier color towards
12:08 the end. So I am getting more saturation towards those ends. Still coming up. All my bees keeping
12:20 nice clean sections. About an inch. Did I hurt you? No. Oh, okay. You bored? No. Jessica's
12:32 a really great model. I didn't even tell her that we were going live today. I just told
12:37 her that we were going in the kitchen and the excuse I gave her was because she can
12:39 watch Netflix. And she didn't even argue with me. So what I did was I'm pulling out, so
12:52 I pulled out this section, right? And I'm not going to take the whole entire thing.
12:58 Only because for her, I want to actually have that dimension of her natural color blending
13:04 into these blues that we're going to be putting in there. So if I wanted it to be a heavier
13:11 result, I would have gone ahead, held the entire section right over the section that
13:15 I just dropped. And then I would have gone ahead, skim over it and then saturated those
13:20 ends. But because that's not the look that I'm going for, I'm actually looking for a
13:24 melted blue into her natural color. That's why I'm actually only taking part of this
13:29 hair and letting there be a midsection here, dropping right over if you can see that. So
13:35 I just dropped down some natural hair. Remember, choke up on it. Some people think that's funny.
13:44 All right. And I'm also, you'll also notice I'm also going to over-directed some. Technically,
13:49 I should be standing on the right-hand side of my client, but I'm not just because A,
13:55 I'm not, I can't, I'm not going to block you guys. But also with Jessica's hair, I'm struggling
14:00 because her hair is so short. All right. So again, I'll load my brush. Okay. And I'm going
14:12 to come from those, that side there, keeping it really nice and soft, just skimming over
14:22 the hair, take my paddle and I'm going to lay it underneath it, get a little more product
14:29 in there and just push it into her ends a little bit more. And whatever hair I wasn't
14:34 able to really grab at. If I wanted more blonde, I would probably, honestly, I would probably
14:54 take thinner sections. If it was me and I wanted more blonde, I would take thinner sections
15:00 and I would just make sure that instead of dropping those sections in between, I would
15:05 actually be going ahead and painting them. Oh, I already have that section dropped. So
15:12 okay, again, I'm going to get my section together because I don't want her totally blonde. She's
15:19 only 11. We're dropping out some hair in the middle there, gathering that hair there that
15:25 I want and I'm over directing it over some and that'll help to make that line near the
15:30 top really soft. So you're not going to have to worry about teasing that root. I'm not
15:36 holding my paddle because my paddle is too big, but I have it wedged here. So it's actually
15:41 not bothering me. Got my brush loaded and see it's thicker there and I'm skimming over
15:46 top of it. Okay, I'm going to bring my paddle, bring it on a corner, grab a little product
16:09 and this is where you can actually hear the hair being pushed, the product being pushed
16:15 into it. So I can get a little bit more of that saturation. Look at that just fall. And
16:23 I want to point something out to you that I think is actually really pretty that I just
16:26 noticed. So if you can see how this looks here, but because I over directed this, you're
16:31 going to have this beautiful touch of blonde just on the bottom there, which I think is
16:34 pretty cool. Okay, so if you guys hear a noise, I just noticed my husband's home. I'm not
16:42 going to be processing with heat. I'm going to let her go at room temperature, but I'm
16:48 probably going to let her go for about a good 45 minutes. A lot like Lacey, I am very organic.
16:58 I don't even own a heat source. So all of my clients process naturally. All right, so
17:03 as I get to the top here, I'm actually going to bow it a little bit. Why am I bowing it?
17:11 My hair is telling me that no, you guys ever like just do something and you don't really
17:15 have a reason for why you're doing it. You're just feeling like you should be bowing it
17:19 honestly because I'm getting to the top here and I want to be able to over direct it more.
17:23 Actually I want to take this section of clip this way because I want to have it a little
17:27 bit rootier here. So that's actually what I'm doing, which is kind of strange because
17:33 that's something I did not learn, but I feel like, I feel like that's where her hair is
17:37 telling me if that makes any sense whatsoever. So with that being said, I'm going to take
17:44 it. I'm actually going to over direct her the opposite way. Again, here's her hair.
17:51 Whoops. I want to make sure you can see it. Here's her hair. I'm actually going to pull
17:54 her this way. And the reason I want that is because I do want a little bit of a rootier
17:59 look right in that midst, that upper section right up in here where I want it to be a little
18:05 bit more saturated in here. So I'm going to over direct it. And this way, when I go ahead
18:09 and draw it in, it's not going to be as heavy right in here, but it's going to be more concentrated
18:15 over in here. Does that make sense? Yes. More organic. I'm incredibly organic. I like chocolate
18:24 and I like it when it's like Nestle is not organic. All right. So again, taking my section
18:30 and some of it's already dropped because her hair is just so short. Making sure that you're
18:42 having it. I didn't say this before. You also want to make sure that the hair is not pulled
18:45 down. All right. Because now I don't know if you can see this. So here's her hair and
18:51 it's lifted up. So you can see it's lifted up and it's away from, you're not seeing anything.
18:58 There we go. It's lifted up. But once I push it down, all those hairs from underneath actually
19:02 want to pop through. So you actually want to keep it up and away from the section that
19:09 you're working in. All right. So again, I have it lifted up and I'm going to gradually
19:15 pull it away towards me, making sure that you're choking up on the section, loading
19:23 my brush. Okay. All right. Sorry, I have a message there, so I'm not seeing properly.
19:35 All right. So making sure I'm only about two to three inches away from where I'm actually
19:39 painting. All right. I have again, this section all the way over here towards me and now I'm
19:44 starting to paint and it's coming out gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. And I'll show you once
19:54 I drop the section, what this looks like. All right. So coming over. Uh oh, there might
20:09 be a face. I'm on Facebook live, honey. Everyone's going to laugh. And I married him because
20:17 he's awesome like that. To anyone who's watching, this is my husband, Steve, and he's awesome.
20:28 You're getting lots of hearts and love right now. Me on the other hand, I'm sweating like
20:32 a pig. All right. Now pulling it out, making sure everything's blended and drop the section
20:46 down. And I'm going to give you guys a little thing here. Yeah. I'm like sweating cause
20:54 I'm like, seriously, what's he doing? I can't wait to watch that on the playback. All right.
20:58 So anyway, you can see it's a little heavier and because we've pulled it, it's really going
21:02 to have a really nice fall to it. All right. I don't even know what she's watching. It's
21:10 putting me to sleep though. All right. Next section here. He's watching TV. He's getting
21:20 picked up in a couple of minutes. All right. So this section is actually not as thick,
21:27 so I'm going to keep the entire thing over directed. You say over directing it, load
21:37 my bridge and kind of just fanning over this, getting it heavier towards those sides. Just
21:52 drag it in a little bit. Lay that down. Pull it in. All right. So I'm going to show you
22:09 guys real quickly what I have. Move the camera. You want to see more Steve? Everybody wants
22:14 to see more of yous, honey. All right. So this is what we've got so far. Okay. I feel
22:20 like it's looking absolutely gorgeous. So what I'm going to do is instead of wasting
22:24 everybody's time, wasting my battery, I'm going to go ahead and I will come back. I'll
22:29 come back with a finished painted result because I'm sure you guys will really like that. All
22:33 right.
22:33 Bye.
