00:02 I am going to make a costume for a doll
00:28 using fabric, a needle and thread, or a sewing machine,
00:32 thin cardboard from a cereal box, elastic cord,
00:35 a stretchy fabric like dancewear foil,
00:38 craft paint, Mod Podge, and glue.
00:41 This is a fabric called dancewear foil,
00:44 and I like using this because it can stretch both ways
00:47 and you don't have to hem the edge.
00:49 You can leave a raw edge, just cut it neatly,
00:51 and it won't fray.
00:52 So I start by folding the fabric over
00:54 and cutting a wide rectangle
00:56 that comes to the doll's shoulder.
00:58 Flip it so the good side is on the inside.
01:01 Place the doll on the inside at the center point,
01:04 pinching the material in the middle of her back.
01:06 Then use a pencil to follow the line of her back.
01:09 And this works better when the doll
01:11 is not quite so heavily clothed.
01:13 Extend the line from the bottom of the back
01:15 all the way to the corner, sew on the line drawn,
01:19 try it on the doll for size, trim off the excess fabric,
01:23 pinch the fabric around the doll's legs,
01:26 then draw a line on the inside.
01:28 Lay it flat and sew on the line drawn,
01:31 trim off the excess, flip it right side out,
01:34 place it on the doll, then use a needle and thread
01:37 to gather the top.
01:38 To make the basic outfit.
01:44 To decorate my costume, I can take small strips
01:46 of the fabric, fold it over, and stitch it across,
01:50 making a small loop to use as a belt.
01:54 Make a loop out of a wider piece to add layers to the top.
01:58 Pinch it for a different look.
02:00 Take a rectangle of fabric and wrap it around the doll's leg.
02:04 Use a pencil to trace the leg and around the foot,
02:07 sew on the line drawn, then trim off the excess.
02:10 Then flip them right side out to make boots.
02:13 Or sew the feet onto the bottom of the outfit to close them in.
02:18 Make the top a little longer, cut small holes
02:22 at the shoulders to make a sleeveless top.
02:25 Lowering the back can also make it easier
02:27 when dressing the doll.
02:29 Just be sure to reinforce the bottom stitch.
02:31 Cut a circle out of the material, fold it in half,
02:35 then stitch the center to the back.
02:38 To make a cape, use a tube to make sleeves,
02:42 use trim and cord for added details.
02:44 On a piece of cardboard from a cereal box,
02:47 I sketch out a belt design, a circle for a shield, a tiara,
02:53 and whatever else I would like for my superhero
02:55 to have, like cuffs, shin guards, wrist guards,
02:58 or shoulder pads.
02:59 Cut them out.
03:01 Begin to curl them to fit the doll.
03:03 Cut pieces of cardboard from a cereal box into strips.
03:07 Use a strip to make a loop around another to make a belt.
03:12 Glue them in a circle to make a tiara, or cut a circle,
03:15 cut a line to the center, cross the edges,
03:18 and glue them in place.
03:20 Glue strips to the back.
03:21 Glue on layers of cardboard for decoration.
03:24 Paint them with craft paint, then
03:26 dry brush it with a metallic paint to give it some texture.
03:30 Seal it with a layer of Mod Podge.
03:32 Glue on elastic cord to attach items
03:35 like mask and shoulder pads.
03:38 And you're done.
03:39 Happy crafting.

05:06 In order to infiltrate the superhero's secret headquarters,
05:11 I have to become a superhero, or at least look like one.
05:17 Hey, Dad, where are your football pads from college?
05:20 They're in the garage.
05:21 But why?
05:22 Thanks, Dad.
05:23 Sophie, what are you doing with my shower curtain?
05:26 Oh, I'm just working on a school project, Mom.
05:28 But Sophie--
05:30 Oh, and I'll be needing this, too.
05:32 My antique shield?
05:34 We want to give a shout out to Yasmin Richardson.
05:37 What's up?
05:39 Now it's time to go change into my alter ego.
05:43 Shower curtain?
05:43 Football pads?
