00:08 Phew!
00:10 Hey guys, it's Ro!
00:12 Welcome to another Nerdy Nummies!
00:14 Today we are gonna be making a
00:16 science themed cake, we are gonna be
00:18 making a beaker cake, I got a lot of
00:20 requests to do something like this, so I'm
00:22 really excited! It's gonna get
00:24 a little weird, so
00:26 let's get weird with it!
00:28 Let's get started!
00:30 The things you will need
00:32 will be kabob
00:34 sticks, a bunch of rice
00:36 crispy treats, you can bake your own from
00:38 scratch, or I bought these ones pre-made
00:40 from Kellogg's.
00:42 A little bowl, this is a glass
00:44 bowl because you can put it in the oven,
00:46 it's bake-able, and this is 1 quart
00:48 or 950
00:50 milliliters, so this is the size.
00:52 It's pretty small,
00:54 about dat big!
00:56 Ha-ha-ha-ha!
00:58 And then you're gonna need 3 eggs,
01:00 I'm using a box cake, you can use
01:02 pound cake or whatever cake you'd like, but I
01:04 really like this cake because it holds shape
01:06 very well. A cup of water
01:08 and half a stick of
01:10 butter. Let's put it all
01:12 together! I'm gonna be using my
01:14 KitchenAid to mix all of these things up,
01:16 but if you don't have a stand mixer,
01:18 you can just use an electric hand
01:20 mixer or a whisk.
01:22 You'll just have to mix it around a lot!
01:24 Alright, so the first thing I'm gonna do is
01:26 pour the cake mix from the box
01:28 cake into the bowl.
01:30 And then I'm gonna add
01:34 my half a stick of butter, and you're gonna
01:36 add 1 cup of water.
01:38 Pew!
01:42 And our eggs.
01:44 A-boom! Now you're gonna mix
01:46 it all up until it's well combined.
01:48 Is it locked?
01:50 Yeah! Locked and lo-oh!
01:52 Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!
01:54 Mix it on a low speed
01:56 and then a high speed!
01:58 Now we're gonna take our little bowl
02:00 and I'm gonna take the leftover
02:02 butter, and I'm just gonna smooth
02:04 it around, all around the bowl
02:06 to grease the bowl so that
02:08 this cake will pop out really easy.
02:10 Now you're gonna pour about
02:12 half of your batter into the
02:14 bowl, doesn't have to be exact, it will
02:16 rise a lot when it's baking.
02:18 And we're gonna bake 2
02:20 cakes, we're gonna bake 2 of these, so save
02:22 the other half of your batter.
02:24 Da-doo! There you have it!
02:26 And now you're gonna heat your oven to 330
02:28 and we are gonna slow bake
02:30 it. The reason I do this is because
02:32 it's a very dense cake, so you don't want it to
02:34 burn, so you just set it to 330
02:36 and then you bake it for about 28
02:38 minutes, but just keep your eye on it
02:40 and you can use a toothpick to
02:42 poke it in and out of the cake
02:44 to see if it's ready.
02:46 Once both of your cakes are done baking, you're gonna
02:48 remove them from the oven and allow
02:50 them plenty of time to cool
02:52 because if you do this while they're
02:54 still warm, they are gonna fall apart.
02:56 And now we are gonna shape them to look
02:58 like a science beaker.
03:00 Look at these, they just, they,
03:02 they baked perfectly!
03:04 A-doog-a-doog-a-doog-a-doog-a-doog!
03:06 So what I've got are 2 cardboard
03:08 cake rounds, and I've just stacked them
03:10 to be the height that I'll need. And I
03:12 used a cake leveler, set on the
03:14 lowest setting, and then I'm just gonna
03:16 walk it through the cake, so that
03:18 my cake will be lying flat.
03:20 And now we're gonna do the same thing to
03:22 the other cake. Now that we've got
03:24 our 2 cake halves all leveled,
03:26 we are just gonna stack them.
03:28 So I'm gonna put down the first one,
03:30 and then I'm gonna
03:32 take my mush-spratula
03:34 and spread a little bit of buttercream
03:36 frosting in between,
03:38 and then I'm gonna stick on
03:40 the top of the cake. Boom!
03:42 Bottom of the beaker all
03:44 done! Now it's time to make
03:46 the top! Now we are gonna make
03:48 the neck of our beaker, you're gonna
03:50 need 5 of these Rice
03:52 Krispie Treats, and what we're gonna do
03:54 is open all of them up, and
03:56 sculpt our neck.
03:58 Now I'm gonna stack them, I'm gonna stack
04:00 them 2, and 2,
04:02 and then stick these together.
04:04 Rice Krispies are really, really
04:06 sticky, and I saw this on Cake Boss, where they
04:08 mold things out of Rice Krispies,
04:10 and it is totally possible!
04:12 So what you're gonna do is press them together,
04:14 get them to stick,
04:16 and you're just gonna keep doing this, working it with
04:18 your hands, until these little
04:20 Rice Krispies look like a tube.
04:22 Boom! It's done! OK,
04:24 I'm just gonna stick this right here, and
04:26 now I'm gonna take the 5th Rice Krispie, and
04:28 I'm gonna roll it really, really thin
04:30 to make the beaker
04:32 lip. Wee-wee-wee-wee-wee-wee-wee-wee-wee-wee-wee-wee!
04:36 You're just gonna wrap this around the top,
04:38 oh this is
04:40 so funny!
04:42 This molds really, really well, I'm really impressed!
04:44 Now we are gonna stabilize
04:46 our beaker using a kabob
04:48 stick, so I've just taken 1 of the sticks,
04:50 and I'm gonna put it in here first,
04:52 I'm gonna use the pointy end,
04:54 and we're gonna put it up
04:56 the neck. Now it is time
05:00 to frost! I've took a lot of vanilla
05:02 buttercream frosting, I've put it into a
05:04 plastic bag, and
05:06 I'm just gonna take a little scissors, snip
05:08 the tip, and now
05:10 we are gonna frost this entire beaker
05:12 cake. I put it on a cake tray so that I can spin
05:14 it around, making it a little bit more easy.
05:16 This is a really easy cake,
05:18 I would say that it's easy mode, we're not doing
05:20 any fondant, and you're just gonna
05:22 take your spatula and
05:24 spread the white frosting on as
05:26 evenly as you can, but if it's not perfect,
05:28 who cares? It's science!
05:31 Well actually science is pretty
05:33 accurate. A really good
05:35 tip for the frosting is once you've got
05:37 it laid over your whole cake, I put it in the
05:39 freezer for 10 minutes to chill,
05:41 and then I ran the spatula
05:43 all the way around it again, and
05:45 it got really smooth, look at that!
05:47 Schmooooth!
05:49 Now we're gonna take the
05:51 blue buttercream frosting,
05:53 I've dyed it blue with a few drops of
05:55 Sky Blue food coloring dye,
05:57 I put it in a plastic bag
05:59 with a number 5 tip at the end,
06:01 and we're gonna decorate our beaker.
06:03 Now I'm just gonna take this extra white frosting,
06:05 I put it in a plastic baggie with a number 2 tip,
06:07 and I'm just gonna decorate the side of the beaker
06:09 with the milliliter measurement,
06:11 starting with 50 and ending with 200.
06:13 Ta-da!
06:15 Here is our science beaker cake!
06:17 It is so cute, thanks you guys for suggesting it!
06:19 I have never made, with Rice Krispies,
06:21 molded a cake before, this was my first time,
06:23 and it was so fun!
06:25 I'm gonna put it in the freezer for 10 minutes,
06:27 and then I'm gonna take it out of the freezer
06:29 and I'm gonna cut it into pieces,
06:31 and I'm gonna put it in the freezer for 10 minutes.
06:33 And I'm gonna cut it into pieces,
06:35 and then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:37 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:39 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:41 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:43 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:45 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:47 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:49 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:51 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:53 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:55 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:57 And then I'm gonna cut it into pieces.
06:59 Alright, thanks you guys, bye-bye!

07:03 Bill Nye the Science Guy!
07:25 Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill!
07:27 I watched that show growing up, but I'm old.
