00:02 Hi, I'm Jessica Bailey, Evite's in-house party stylist.
00:19 Today we're gonna show you how to make a diaper cake
00:22 for a baby shower or first birthday.
00:24 The first step is to take our diapers and roll them up.
00:28 So, we're gonna roll and then take a tiny rubber band
00:33 and wrap it around about 1/4 of the way down
00:39 and repeat that 58 times.
00:41 You will be using 59 diapers to make your diaper cake.
00:46 Next step is to take your paper towel roll
00:48 and hot glue it to your 14 inch cake circle.
00:52 Make sure to hold your paper towel roll in place
00:56 so it has a few seconds to dry.
00:59 We'll be making a three tier diaper cake.
01:03 For our base tier, we're gonna use 36 diapers,
01:06 so be prepared.
01:07 First, we're gonna take six diapers
01:10 and surround our paper towel roll.
01:12 Then take your curling ribbon,
01:15 wrap it around the outside to measure,
01:19 cut your ribbon,
01:21 and tie it in a knot.
01:25 I like two knots to make it more secure
01:27 and trim your ribbon.
01:29 Then make sure and remove the rubber bands
01:33 for a cleaner look.
01:34 For the second layer of our base tier,
01:38 we're gonna use 11 diapers.
01:40 Repeat the first step,
01:43 making sure to double knot your curling ribbon
01:46 and to remove your rubber bands.
01:48 For the final layer of our base tier,
01:51 we're gonna use 17 diapers.
01:55 Repeat our previous steps,
01:57 double knot your curling ribbon
02:00 and remove those rubber bands
02:01 and you are done with your base tier.
02:04 Now we're gonna move on to our second tier.
02:07 We're gonna start again with six diapers
02:09 around our paper towel roll.
02:12 Tie those together with curling ribbon,
02:14 double knot and trim,
02:17 and remove your rubber bands.
02:20 Next, repeat those steps using 19 diapers
02:25 for your second layer of your second tier.
02:29 For our last and final tier,
02:32 we are just gonna use six diapers
02:35 to surround our paper towel roll.
02:38 Now, our diaper cake is almost done.
02:42 We're just going to embellish it a little bit.
02:44 Using our thick and thin ribbon,
02:48 first start with your thick ribbon,
02:50 making sure to cover your curling ribbon
02:52 and secure using a glue spot.
02:56 Next, take your thin ribbon,
02:58 place it in the center of your thicker ribbon
03:02 just to give it a nice look, a nice embellishment,
03:05 and secure with one of your glue spots.
03:08 Repeat this for the second tier and the top tier.
03:12 Another fun embellishment is to use this tissue garland
03:16 as kind of icing or some nice frosting
03:18 in between your layers.
03:20 Simply wrap it around and you can tuck it under the end.
03:24 Once you've embellished your cake, we have one final step.
03:28 I like using flowers for a cake topper,
03:30 but if there is a themed baby shower,
03:32 I think it's also great to use a puppy
03:35 or a choo-choo train or a princess or any type of toy
03:40 that would be good for a newborn.
03:42 And don't worry, we're not leaving out the boys.
03:45 If it's a little boy that's on the way,
03:48 just replace the decorative ribbon
03:51 and add something like this cute little dinosaur
03:54 to top off your cake.
03:56 And that's our diaper cake.
