00:00 [crowd cheering]
00:02 Our referee in charge, Sean Mabouy
00:04 Okay, it's the in-round contest, keep it clean at all times, protect yourselves at all times. Good luck, here we go.
00:10 Just keeping my eye on the Scar though, during all of that. She's how she always is, she's got a good temperament.
00:26 And she'll need it because this is a red hot atmosphere and Dubois will be really looking to impress.
00:30 This is fight number 7, she's had 5 stoppages.
00:34 But this is the most London of London venues, it's packed out here.
00:39 And she will be very, very keen to put on a show, I'm sure about that.
00:44 But this is a significant step up.
00:46 Ascarno, as I say, is mixed in good company, more exalted company than Dubois has so far.
00:53 Yeah, she's very experienced so Caron's got to warm into the fight, find her range, don't get too eager too early.
01:01 Just flipped that right hand over the top there Dubois, Ascarno had gone down the middle with her right hand herself.
01:09 As I said, she's well set up, she's got decent balance.
01:12 Good right hand there from Ascarno.
01:17 This schedule for 8.
01:19 Just short with the right hand there Ascarno, Dubois has disappeared, wasn't in any position to counter it.
01:37 Took a feed right in there and let the left hand go to the body.
01:42 Took a feed right in there and let the left hand go to the body.
01:46 The strength of that shot just sent Ascarno off balance slightly.
01:59 The left hand.
02:01 Good jab there from Dubois.
02:10 Ascarno will try and pick that right hand herself, she's looked for it 2 or 3 times in this opening round.
02:14 Has landed it at least once.
02:16 There's that jab again. Interestingly Dubois, I discovered late last year, is right handed southpaw.
02:23 What that means is she sets up in a stance that coaches would put you in if you're left handed.
02:28 But she's right handed so her dominant stronger hand is her lead hand.
02:31 Yeah, there's a few fighters like that though, Winky Wright, who's a right handed southpaw, Andy Lee.
02:38 You do get them, there's not that many, Billy Joe Saunders.
02:40 You get others who do it the other way, left handed orthodox fighters.
02:45 They're interesting to watch.
02:47 A decent opener for Dubois.
02:52 Good jab.
02:53 Good jab.
03:19 Well done Dubois in that round. Ascarno landed a good straight right too so she can't switch up her defences.
03:26 Dubois has got to be mindful of what's coming back at her.
03:28 It was a good opening round, jab was working well.
03:31 And when your stronger hand is your lead hand, it's interesting to see how they use it.
03:37 Do they really try and plant the jab, lead off with hooks? Dubois knows that quite a lot.
03:41 Or you can, like Andy did, you mentioned Andy Lee, counter punch with it, try and draw a jab, step off and then
03:47 shovel in that kind of corkscrew uppercut that he used to like.
03:51 They have a choice. Dubois just looking to go to the body.
03:56 Ascarno coming out to engage and throw a bit more in this second round.
04:00 Yeah Ascarno letting both hands go here now, happy to engage.
04:03 Looking for the right to the body there Ascarno, they didn't quite reach.
04:22 Just creeping in Dubois, not quite close enough there, let the one-two go.
04:46 I like the way she rolls out after she finishes punching there Dubois, she doesn't sit there admiring her work,
04:55 she gets straight out of there.
04:57 Looking for that big wing-willing right hand there Ascarno, it half landed.
05:07 Just pinning the arm of Dubois on the blind side of the referee there Ascarno,
05:27 and then just chucks in a right hand, maybe a little bit of an elbow.
05:32 Referee talking to the pair of them, that was mainly Ascarno, it was quite old school stuff.
05:38 So just our main event to come after this JD is backstage with Fraser Clark.
05:58 Yes, a completely different mentality from what you're used to from Fraser Clark, a big Fraser is definitely here,
06:03 live and directing the festival, only moments away.
06:05 Faze, what kind of goes through your mind before you headline here at York Hall?
06:09 I'm just focused on my job, all the work I've done in the camp, the game plan and just carry that out.
06:15 When you saw Man United say you want to implement your style, you want to make a statement tonight,
06:18 what does a statement look like for Fraser Clark?
06:20 A win, that's the most important thing, if a statement comes it comes, but do a game plan, stick to it,
06:26 work on the improvements I've made in camp, that's my job.
06:29 Come on, come on.
06:31 We will, we will, we will rock you.
06:35 Ten rounds he's got coming up for Fraser Clark, that's what it's scheduled for against Barrios-Vakon.
06:40 It's been a rough ride the last few weeks.
06:42 If he didn't realise that this is a cold business before that, and I think he probably did, he definitely does now.
06:51 So into the third here, not an awful lot in those opening two,
06:59 Dubois had the better of the first, second Lascarne came into it a little bit more,
07:03 was certainly more aggressive, wasn't a great deal clean landed by either one of them.
07:08 Nice long left hand there from Dubois.
07:10 There's the one-two from Dubois again.
07:28 Right hook, connects with the side of the head of Lascarne.
07:53 Lascarne just looking at the referee there, just feeling that she was roughhoused a bit by Dubois I think.
07:59 Dubois stepping in again, looking for the body, she's invested in quite a lot of body work, Matt, these early rounds.
08:05 Yeah, looking to really sink those right hooks in, doubling up on it that time.
08:09 We've seen her stop goals with body shots, so we know she carries power.
08:16 Downstairs there looking for the left, sort of uppercut into the pit of the stomach.
08:21 Right!
08:22 Again looking for the body shot and then finishing that attack upstairs.
08:35 It's decent methodical stuff this from Dubois so far.
08:41 And it's just locked on a bit more in this third round.
08:45 It's not quite as untidy as it has been at times in the first two,
08:48 a couple of swings and misses there.
08:50 Yeah, a little bit too wide with the shots.
08:52 Don't load up on the first shot, touch, drop, touch, drop.
09:09 Get around the second or third phase, yeah?
09:12 Alright?
09:16 Yeah.
09:17 Give a bit of head movement going before it, pop, pop, and then touch,
09:28 and then come out of them with the explosive stuff.
09:30 Yeah?
09:31 20 seconds.
09:32 Don't try and, at the same time, try and draw that lead, better draw the lead, nail on the next phase.
09:37 Draw the lead, take a slip, and work it, yeah?
09:40 Alright?
09:43 McGuigan there leading the corner.
09:45 They've had a great old time in that McGuigan gym over the last few weeks,
09:49 Chris Billum-Smith with that magical win really in Bournemouth to become world champion.
09:53 Ellie Scott, he picked up a world title last week,
09:56 she's over on the far side there somewhere.
09:58 Terrific fighter to watch.
10:00 Hassan with a win tonight, Caroline fighting as well.
10:04 The only downside being the injury to Adam Azeem,
10:06 but what we hear is it won't be keeping him out for too long,
10:10 we certainly hope not.
10:12 Good left hand into the body again there from Dubois,
10:14 looking for that right hand over the top.
10:16 Yeah, only a nitpicking, slight criticism,
10:20 just sometimes a little bit too wide, wild with the right hook,
10:23 maybe shorten that up, actually have better accuracy.
10:26 Skarno's not been heard at any point, she's just struggling with hand speed really.
10:35 And also the foot speed, I think the in and out quick feet of Dubois.
10:39 Yeah.
10:40 Nice.
10:46 Right to the body, right hook up top, both landed.
10:49 She gets quite low when she comes in Dubois,
10:54 Skarno tends to stand up fairly upright,
10:57 the heads might come together at some point.
10:59 Again, finishing that attack upstairs.
11:12 And she has tidied up that right hook actually,
11:17 because that was a kind of shorter, shallower arc
11:22 that she threw that in off the back of the left of the body.
11:24 Yeah, which is good, you know, it shows she's making adjustments,
11:27 again, turning that right hook upstairs, finishing the combination.
11:31 Just hits the Skarno in the throat with it that time, it's landing regularly.
11:42 Yeah, nice backhand there as well, lovely left cross through the middle.
11:45 Just clicking through the gears a bit in this fourth round as we head up to halfway.
11:51 Yeah, there's that right hook to the body there.
11:53 Yeah, as you say, she made the adjustment, she did shorten that arc.
11:57 Lovely shot.
12:01 She's still got a bit of a bit of a gap there,
12:11 but she's got a bit of a gap there.
12:13 She's got a bit of a gap there.
12:15 She's got a bit of a gap there.
12:17 She's got a bit of a gap there.
12:19 She's gassing this girl, but you've just got to do it intelligently.
12:22 A little drink?
12:24 So there's the QR code, give that to Skarno, get two goals.
12:27 Bite her face.
12:28 See the difference when you draw that backhand, you dip underneath it.
12:34 Once you dip underneath it, you've got three shots at the same time.
12:37 Three different.
12:38 Just got to draw that backhand of hers every time.
12:40 You can draw it this way or you can draw it the other side.
12:44 You can tell that actually when you see fighters in the corner,
12:47 when you see them sitting on the ringside after fights,
12:50 that this is harder than usual, just from their physical reaction to things.
12:54 Yeah, definitely.
12:55 Body language tells its own story.
12:58 The truth.
12:59 Again, Dubois really focusing on the body.
13:07 That was three decent body shots,
13:09 and I think that might have just got to the Skarno a little bit,
13:12 as she's dropped her elbows quite tight the last few seconds.
13:15 She generally holds up quite high.
13:18 The right hand comes through again here, and she's dragged down really bad.
13:22 A punch half landed, and the referee is counting.
13:25 But I think the damage was done before that.
13:27 I think the body work put a little bit of a dent in her,
13:30 took the wind out of her slightly.
13:32 She dropped those elbows, exposed the head of touch,
13:35 and Dubois did land with her left hand,
13:37 but I think she more dragged it down rather than caught her clean.
13:41 But as I said, in the fourth, she began to click through the gears,
13:44 and she's doing exactly the same here.
13:46 Very close with her right hand.
13:48 Lands the left, and the Skarno looking to try and fire off the ropes.
13:52 So, yeah, interestingly, I thought it was a balance issue with the knockdown,
13:56 but, you know, she did not complain.
13:58 The Skarno wasn't complaining about the knockdown being scored.
14:01 Dubois just trying to work the Skarno over here,
14:06 and doing a pretty good job of it, too.
14:11 Very accurate in this round so far.
14:15 Just over 30 seconds remaining.
14:18 And the Skarno again. No knockdown this time.
14:37 I think a little bit of fatigue is setting in here.
14:41 I think the bodywork that we mentioned that she invested in right from the start
14:45 has really taken the wind out of her sails.
14:48 There's a slight desperation about the way that the Skarno is throwing at times.
14:53 And this is good from Dubois.
14:55 She's just bit by bit by bit raising temperature.
15:00 Yeah, I mean, that's a hard shot.
15:02 And we know that she's right-handed, as we spoke about before,
15:05 so there'll be plenty of weight in that shot.
15:08 And it really fires back.
15:11 Yeah, so, you know,
15:17 there was probably a bit of a balance issue there,
15:19 but it was a knockdown, so he's got to be careful.
15:22 And, you know, Dubois is a very good fighter.
15:25 There was probably a bit of a balance issue there,
15:27 but it was a knockdown, so he got hit with a shot.
15:30 It's interesting when you bear in mind you got caught with that one first,
15:32 and then she gets hit with this shot, which was...
15:35 Yeah, that's a knockdown.
15:39 It does land. It does land.
15:41 50/50, maybe, but there was the bodywork,
15:44 then there was the right hand,
15:45 and then the left hand landed enough to send her down.
15:50 Round six.
15:52 So, three to go.
16:00 Good right hand there from Moscano.
16:12 That's the best shot she's landed in quite a while.
16:15 And again.
16:18 That was a decent shot.
16:19 And she needs some of that just to give her some encouragement.
16:24 Break!
16:26 Halfway stage of the round.
16:50 Dubois again just working on the inside
16:52 and flings that right hand over the top.
16:55 That landed too, but Moscano took it okay.
16:58 Just physically strong Dubois.
17:11 Big shoulders.
17:13 Big arms.
17:16 Solid legs. There's a lot of power there.
17:20 Come on, Danny!
17:22 Both landed at the same time there, I think.
17:39 Moscano with the right hand and then Dubois with her own right.
17:41 And she's recovered well in this round, Moscano, actually,
17:43 because that previous one was a bit rough,
17:45 but she's stood her ground here.
17:48 Yeah, good response from her,
17:50 because the round previous was a pretty tough round.
17:54 Good response.
17:55 Okay, I mentioned Ellie Scott earlier on.
17:57 She's ringside with Andy.
17:59 Ellie, great to see you supporting Caroline Dubois.
18:01 First off, huge congratulations.
18:03 New world champion. Has it sunk in yet?
18:05 Yeah, it's starting to sink in now, you know,
18:07 so, yeah, thank you very much.
18:09 Has life changed?
18:10 No, it's still the same.
18:11 I've only got a banana milkshake out of it, so...
18:14 There'll be more to come.
18:15 Let me ask you about Caroline. How do you feel she's boxing?
18:17 Oh, superb, you know.
18:18 I think she'll get right over in the next two rounds.
18:20 Yeah, she's looking unreal.
18:23 And how good can she be?
18:24 You've seen her close quarters.
18:26 Everybody says she's a world champion in the making
18:28 from someone that's been there and done it.
18:30 Can she do it as well?
18:31 Honestly, she's a superstar,
18:32 and you've all seen a glimpse of it tonight,
18:34 but she's the goods. She is the goods.
18:36 We'll try and spread a message
18:37 about getting some banana milkshakes to you.
18:39 You just name your order.
18:40 Hey, a banana milkshake again on the go, and I'm ready.
18:44 Congratulations again. Well done.
18:47 [CHATTER]
18:49 It's always interesting with fighters on the rise.
18:52 When you hear what people say about them,
18:53 you have to take things with a pinch of salt sometimes,
18:55 particularly with respect when it's coming
18:58 from within their own gym, from their own supporters.
19:00 But when everyone says the same thing,
19:03 whether it's gym mates or whether it's people
19:05 who have visited for sparring,
19:06 and then you realise it's basically everyone
19:08 who's seen them,
19:10 you have to take something from it, I think.
19:12 Yeah, definitely.
19:13 I mean, everyone can't be wrong, can they?
19:16 Dubois just trying to rip to the body.
19:23 And Mascano backing up here.
19:27 Tries to fire back off the ropes.
19:30 And there's that work downstairs again.
19:40 Slides underneath the left hand there, Dubois,
19:42 and looks for her own left.
19:44 And Mascano is doing more than just hanging in,
19:48 but the reality here is that this is someone
19:50 who pushed Estelle Moselle all the way 15, 16 months ago,
19:55 and Dubois is winning every round here comfortably.
20:01 It's not an exact science making comparisons
20:11 based on that kind of data, if you like,
20:13 because fights come at different points in people's careers,
20:18 different circumstances and all of that,
20:21 but if we're using it as some kind of yardstick,
20:24 that basically is the bare fact of it.
20:30 Yeah, well, you know, it's corroborating evidence,
20:32 isn't it?
20:33 We can see the performance that she's putting on in the ring.
20:36 You look at comparable opponents,
20:37 and then you speak to everyone that sees her in the gym,
20:40 and everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.
20:43 So, yeah, she's just been--
20:46 you can't help but be impressed when you watch this girl.
20:49 Well, she's been calling out Michaela Meyer,
20:56 Caroline Dubois,
20:57 and we caught up with Michaela earlier in the week.
21:01 I just think it's cool that even if I'm on her hit list,
21:05 I think that's cool because you're seeing two generations
21:07 of women's boxing that could potentially come together
21:10 and end up facing each other.
21:12 So it shows the depth in women's boxing now,
21:15 and it shows how far we've come.
21:16 You've got to be willing to take risks
21:17 and lay it all on the line,
21:18 so it shows what type of fighter she is,
21:20 wanting to call me out and challenge me.
21:23 So, you know, we'll see.
21:24 I plan on being champion at the end of this year.
21:27 I plan on being the 135-pound champion,
21:29 and I'm going to need some opposition.
21:31 I'm going to need some opponents to go up against,
21:34 and she's working her way up,
21:35 so we've got to cross timelines, yeah.
21:38 It's a good diplomatic answer, that, from Michaela Meyer.
21:41 She was a unified champion at Superfed,
21:43 and now she's stepped up to lightweight.
21:44 She wants to box Katie Taylor.
21:47 That's basically what she wants.
21:48 She doesn't want to fight Caroline Dubois,
21:50 not because she's scared of her,
21:51 but just because there's nothing in it for her,
21:53 and you can see her point, really.
21:54 Yeah, you're always trying to chase the ones
21:56 who are, you know, above you
21:58 or at least on your level for unification.
22:00 You don't want to call out the one beneath you.
22:03 In fact, you like to try and pretend they don't exist.
22:08 Yeah, that's exactly it, but Caroline Dubois
22:10 has had her name on her lips most of the week,
22:12 Michaela Meyer, and who knows?
22:14 In women's pro boxing, these fights
22:17 have a way of happening more readily
22:19 than they do in the men's.
22:21 At least that's what we've seen in recent times.
22:24 So eighth and final round, and Dubois will try
22:27 and tighten that screw even further if she can.
22:29 Asgano, as I say, has never looked really badly hurt,
22:32 even when she was putting her head to the body there, though.
22:35 The telltale sign is the fighter just pins her elbows in.
22:39 And there's that right hook up, Tom,
22:41 because she's trying to protect that body
22:44 and leaves the head exposed.
22:46 Yeah, I think she was in trouble there
22:58 with those body shots.
23:00 Possibly the moment might have passed now,
23:02 but she was definitely in trouble there
23:04 on those ropes from those body shots.
23:06 And Asgano just trying to keep things tight now
23:20 and get to that finishing tape.
23:21 She's not really throwing very much.
23:23 She doesn't want to leave herself exposed.
23:25 Does pop out that right hand into the final 25 seconds or so.
23:29 Dubois stabbing to the body with the right.
23:32 And this will be good experience for her
23:35 to get the eight rounds under her belt.
23:37 The championship distance, of course, is 10.
23:40 So you've all but done it if you manage to complete the eight.
23:42 You're only four minutes short,
23:44 and that's another reason why these leaps can be made
23:46 that much more quickly in women's professional boxing.
23:52 Yeah, it's been another really solid
23:55 and impressive performance from Caroline Dubois.
23:58 Was it a pain to get any stuff in this girl?
24:01 Makes you wonder how far up is she from the world title shot.
24:08 Finding opponents, getting opponents to fight,
24:11 that's going to be the hard part.
24:13 It is, and the situation with those world lightweight titles
24:17 is interesting.
24:19 Taylor's got them all.
24:20 She's had them all for a while.
24:21 She's been very diligent with the fulfillment
24:23 of Mandatory's Taylor,
24:25 but she's at the stage of her career now
24:26 where if she gets an unappetizing one,
24:28 she might start to let belts go.
24:30 But here's that body work from Dubois,
24:32 which caused the elbows to drop
24:34 and the head to get exposed.
24:36 Yeah, I think it was a left uppercut
24:37 to the body that started it.
24:39 You see it there.
24:40 I mean, that's one of her favorite combinations,
24:42 isn't it?
24:43 Head, body and head with the right hook.
24:46 Her lead hand.
24:48 Would you say that's a possibility with Taylor, though?
24:52 She's taken those Mandatory's.
24:53 She's kept the belts together always,
24:55 but now she just wants the biggest fight she can get.
24:58 She wants a rematch with Chantel Cameron,
25:00 and if she has a Mandatory slapped on her
25:02 that just doesn't want to do anything for her,
25:03 then maybe now she's let some of those belts drift.
25:06 I'd say so.
25:07 I think she just wants legacy fights, doesn't she, Taylor?
25:10 You know, she's had a long, hard career,
25:12 two Olympic Games,
25:13 I don't know how many World European Championships
25:15 that she's boxed and won,
25:17 so yeah, I think she just wants the biggest and the best fights.
25:20 Well, that's how you saw it at home.
25:23 Two rounds to nil with the knockdown there in round five.
25:26 I don't think there could be any arguing with that.
25:30 Okay, let's find out.
25:35 Ladies and gentlemen, after eight full rounds,
25:43 we go to referee Sean McAvoy for the official decision.
25:46 He sees the contest, 80 to 71,
25:49 declaring your winner and still undefeated,
25:53 sweet Caroline Dubois!
25:58 So a shout out for Caroline Dubois,
26:04 and we'll be hearing from her shortly.
