The Tour de France 2023 will hold its Grand Départ in the Basque Country, with a first stage in Bilbao on 1st July, and will finish in Paris on 23rd July, on completion of a 3,404-km route that will tackle the difficult slopes of the country’s five mountain ranges. The battle for the Yellow Jersey will witness a decisive and emotional episode on the Puy de Dôme, where a stage finish will be held 35 years after the victory of Denmark’s Johnny Weltz. The return to this legendary climb will be accompanied by the rise in importance of sites that will mark the Tours of the future, such as the Grand Colombier or the Col de la Loze. The sole time-trial on the Tour de France in 2023 will take place over 22 kilometres between Passy and the Combloux ski resort in Haute-Savoie. The sprinters will also have the opportunity to express themselves on finishes in Bordeaux, Limoges, Moulins, before the grand finale on the Champs-Elysées. 00:11 - I'm still, yeah, I'm still having a pinch myself moment.

00:14 I can't believe I did it.

00:16 Really proud of myself, really proud of my team.

00:20 Yeah, it's special.

00:21 - Talk to us about the atmosphere going up the Prix de Dôme

00:25 when you found yourself on your own in that silence.

00:28 It must have been so special.

00:29 - Yeah, it was deafening until I got to about 4K to go,

00:34 I couldn't hear anything and then all of a sudden silence.

00:37 My ears were still ringing and I had a lot of time

00:39 to think, a lot of time to suffer.

00:41 And just looking up the road and trying to make

00:44 as much time back on Jorgensen.

00:47 - You've already won stages on Grand Tours,

00:49 on La Vuelta, you had never won it on the Tour de France.

00:51 This is a dream come true.

00:55 - Yeah, for sure, I'm 36 years old, turning 37 this year.

00:58 I'm not getting any younger.

01:00 I've always talked about winning a stage

01:02 at the Tour de France and yeah, I finally achieved it.

01:06 I just feel so fortunate to have so many great people

01:09 behind me, my family, my team, Sylvan Adams

01:14 and Paul Soudanian, my parents, my wife, my kids.

01:19 They've all supported me, I've had some tough times

01:22 over the last year, but I'm back on top and I'm really proud.

01:28 - What are the tactics you had today?

01:29 It was a bit of a masterpiece.

01:31 I tell you, Jorgensen had a one minute--

01:33 - I wish I could say it was all planned.

01:41 I wanted to be with Jorgensen up front,

01:42 but it was just the way the cards played.

01:45 It's really challenging when I knew I was probably

01:48 the most marked man in that group and I ended up

01:52 not playing my cards super right,

01:53 but I just had to be patient.

01:55 And then when I got to 4K to go,

01:57 I didn't really even think about going for the win,

01:59 I just thought about just doing a time trial to the top

02:01 and then however hard I went, didn't matter the result,

02:06 I'd be proud of myself and my hardest was able

02:11 to bring back Jorgensen, so it was nice.

02:14 - The last time there was a stage here at the Puy de Dome,

02:16 you were a little boy, you were a very little boy,

02:18 you were probably one or two.

02:21 What's it mean to win at the Puy de Dome, what a name.

02:24 - Yeah, yeah, an iconic climb, really beautiful.

02:27 Yeah, no, it's super special and I hope we get to return

02:33 here in years to come.

02:35 - In 35 years.

02:36 - 35 years, yeah, yeah, hopefully I'll make it there.
