00:03 Plans for a multi-million pound regeneration project in Claycross Town Centre have entered
00:08 a new phase, with a planning application now being formally submitted.
00:12 The application has been submitted as part of the next steps in delivering the £24 million
00:16 Claycross Town Deal.
00:18 A public consultation was undertaken to gauge opinions on the plans, following ongoing engagement
00:23 with local businesses.
00:25 The application is made up of four key elements.
00:27 First, the creation of a new town square, which would become a public space to be used
00:32 for markets, seasonal events and as a public forum.
00:35 Food, beverage and leisure units.
00:38 The route from Broadlea to the public square to be lined with artisan food companies, leisure
00:42 operators and cafes and restaurants.
00:45 Making the best use of the Clock Tower, the Derbyshire Adult Education Centre building.
00:50 Enhancing its existing uses and bringing the library into the heart of the town.
00:54 And finally, repurposing an existing historic building, with the aim of providing a quality
00:58 food and drink offering and leisure opportunities directly overlooking the new public square.
01:06 Controversial plans for a development of 500 new homes on the outskirts of Chesterfield
01:10 are set to be determined next week.
01:12 William Davies Homes intends to build a development near to its current Skylocks development in
01:17 Dunstan.
01:18 A site has been allocated by the developers for a new primary school to be built, with
01:22 retail space and a cricket pitch also part of the plans.
01:25 However, residents of Dunstan have raised a number of objections to the proposals.
01:30 They say that it will destroy green space, create extra congestion on narrow country
01:34 lanes and impose a huge strain on local services.
01:38 A William Davies Homes spokesman said the development will include significant open
01:42 space and a local centre for the community.
01:45 A final decision on the scheme will be made by councillors on Monday.
