00:03 Work on the new town square which forms part of the multi-million plans for the redevelopment of Claycross
00:08 is expected to get underway this summer.
00:11 The £24 million government-funded Claycross Town Deal, which was given planning approval back in November,
00:17 features four main parts including a new town square,
00:21 food, beverage and leisure units along the route from Broadleys to the town square,
00:25 a Derbyshire Adult Education Centre called the Clock Tower,
00:28 and plans to repurpose an historic building with food, drink and leisure opportunities.
00:33 Now, North East Derbyshire District Council has announced the appointment of Inside Limited
00:38 as their preferred contractor for the Town Centre Regeneration Project,
00:41 which means that work on the town square scheme will get underway in the summer.
00:46 The new town square will feature an open space which can be put to a number of different uses,
00:50 greenery, a refurbished heritage building and flexible business units for independent businesses and street food outlets,
00:57 links to an improved Market Street, Bridge Street and Smithy Street.
01:03 A packaging company with a site near Chesterfield has confirmed that a number of employees will face redundancy
01:08 but says the vast majority of staff will not be impacted by the changes.
01:12 DS Smith has announced that a small number of staff will be made redundant at their Pillsbury Road site in Dainsmore Claycross.
01:19 A DS Smith spokesman said,
01:22 "A period of consultation has been undertaken at our Claycross site in relation to halting our pre-print manufacturing.
01:28 Unfortunately, no viable alternative business proposals were presented during this process,
01:33 and we have therefore taken the difficult decision to halt manufacturing, which affects a small number of roles.
01:39 We will now focus our efforts on supporting employees impacted by this decision.
01:44 All our other manufacturing continues to operate as normal,
01:47 and the vast majority of roles at this site are unaffected by the decision.
