Getting the Upper Land weekly wrap
Transcript
00:00 Welcome back to another episode of Getting the Upper Land where we give a quick overview
00:10 of some of the stories featured in this week's paper.
00:13 I'm your Livestock Editor Rebecca Naj.
00:15 And I'm Senior Journalist Dennis Outt.
00:17 We're coming to you today from the obviously very sunny and warm Orange.
00:22 Dennis, you actually managed to keep yourself busy this week.
00:26 First off, we did have the cover story on Varroa mite and a look at biosecurity.
00:31 What's happening there?
00:32 Yeah, the Central West had its first infestation of Varroa mite at a property near Gumbel.
00:37 The DPI think they've got it contained, but other beekeepers in the area are worried that
00:42 they're in the surveillance zone now.
00:44 There was also the New South Wales Farmers Conference, a lot of topics to come out of
00:48 that one.
00:49 What were some of the highlights?
00:50 Yeah, the main topics down there were biosecurity and EID, the mandatory EID, as well as land
00:57 use rights and supply chain sustainability.
01:01 And that'll be rolled out over the next few weeks.
01:03 Yeah, we'll have a number of stories on that over the next few weeks.
01:06 Over in Livestock, we've got a really interesting feature on Suzuki Wagyu near Bathurst.
01:12 Interesting operation, they used traditional Japanese practices to finish the cattle.
01:16 I'm a little bit envious I didn't get to go out there for a look.
01:20 Yeah, that was written by our long-suffering editor, Andrew Norris.
01:23 I say long-suffering because he has to share an office with you, Bec.
01:27 Can't even deny that.
01:28 The other story we've got featured is Jamie Brown's lead.
01:32 It's on the research that's going into identifying high methane producing cattle, very early
01:38 days, talks about what's required and also what still needs to be done.
01:41 Sounds like an interesting story, Bec, and we'll make sure we stay around that one.
01:45 The other thing we've got, of course, is a wrap of the Australian Sheep and Wool Show
01:49 in Bendigo.
01:50 Yeah, very good.
