00:00 Welcome back to another episode of Getting the Upper Land, where you get a rundown of
00:14 some of our top stories.
00:16 I'm livestock editor Rebecca Naj, and if you're wondering why the backdrop is somewhat less
00:21 inspiring than usual, it's because the skies have opened here in Orange.
00:26 We've also received some much needed rain in other areas of the state.
00:31 Billeroy recorded about 100mm, and earlier this week, Lightning Ridge saw close to 200mm
00:37 fall.
00:38 Results have been mixed as harvest wraps up around New South Wales.
00:43 We speak to a range of analysts and growers who say yields were typically better in southern
00:48 parts of the state, but patchy rain did have an effect elsewhere too.
00:53 Last year's flooding is still impacting hay production, with many damaged pastures only
00:58 just starting to return.
01:00 This has created a premium, and one grower has invested in a steamer in a bid to maximise
01:05 production and improve flexibility for his own operation.
01:10 Heifers are following the rest of the market, with an increase in demand and prices boosted
01:15 by producer confidence.
01:16 There's been a lift in prices generally across the board, but some areas are yet to see the
01:22 rain benefit.
01:24 And speaking of prices, K.O.
01:25 Angus at Gundagai recorded some strong results at its female sale on Friday.
01:31 The stud offered half its donor herd, and marked the first female sale in about 20 years
01:36 for K.O.
01:38 One cow, which was the dam of the $100,000 K.O.
01:41 Teleporter, sold for $50,000, and there were some other good sales throughout.
01:46 The Griffiths family of Baymoor station at Arumpo reflect on changes over the years following
01:52 centenary celebrations last month.
01:55 As well as changing from Marinos to Dorpers, the family navigated unprecedented arrangements
02:01 with the development of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the area.
02:05 You can of course read all these stories and more at theland.com.au, and don't forget to
