00:00 Simon Cream was remembered today as a man of conviction with an enduring passion for
00:06 the Labor Party and his family. He was farewelled by an enormous contingent of former and current
00:11 MPs from the Liberal, National and Labor Parties. Former Premiers from around the country were
00:17 also here and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews. Anthony Albanese paid tribute to a man he
00:24 called a beloved son of the Labor Party who knew no political boundaries.
00:29 His instinct was for reform, for change, for new ways of looking at problems, new approaches
00:36 to solving them, to join the dots as he was so fond of putting it. He often greeted the
00:44 world with a crinkle-eyed geniality, an apt introduction to this man of decency, kindness
00:51 and boundless generosity. Of course friends, family and colleagues from
00:56 his life after politics also paid tribute. His daughter Sarah said he was a man with
01:02 a passion for people. Dad made people feel special and heard. He
01:07 could empower people by identifying their contribution to the world and encourage them
01:12 to do more. I was lucky to have this every time I saw him and I was always excited to
01:18 see him. It was also revealed that he had no warning
01:22 of the blood clot in his lung which killed him in Berlin just a few weeks ago, aged 74.
01:28 His family has asked that instead of flowers, donations be made to mental health.
