00:00 Hello you are watching HW News English, I am Sourav George.
00:03 Today I am ashamed of myself. A viral video circulating on social media captures a distressing
00:10 incident that occurred on May 4, 2023 during the ongoing clash in Manipur. The incident
00:16 shows a mob parading two kooky women undressed. The women were accompanied by several men
00:23 believed to be Methis as they were dragged naked in a field. Shockingly, some of the
00:29 men can be seen groping the women and one of the victims was subjected to gang rape.
00:34 Giving you a brief about the clash between the Methi community and Kooky community have
00:39 been ongoing in Manipur since May 3. The violence began after a solidarity march held by a tribal
00:45 group against the demand to grant scheduled tribe status to the Methis community. So far,
00:51 at least 140 people have been killed, many more have been injured and nearly 50,000 displaced.
00:59 According to the victim's complaint, while the video only depicts two women, there was
01:04 also a third woman in her 50s who was forced to remove her clothes by the mob. The complaint
01:11 further alleges that the younger woman suffered a brutal gang rape in broad daylight.
01:18 As per the victim's account, the tragic incident unfolded when around 800-1000 individuals
01:24 carrying sophisticated weapons like AK rifles, SLR, INSAS and 303 rifles stormed the village
01:33 on the afternoon of May 4. Fearing for their lives, the three women and two family members
01:38 of the youngest woman fled into the forest. Later, the police came for rescuing them and
01:44 they were escorting them to the police station. However, they were intercepted by the mob
01:49 about 2 km away from the station. The mob forcefully stripped the woman naked with tragic
01:56 consequences. The youngest woman's father was killed and her brother lost his life while
02:02 trying to defend her. The police has taken action and arrested the primary suspect identified
02:08 as Heeradas from Thobal district. His arrest was facilitated by the viral video in which
02:14 he was seen wearing a green T-shirt. The incident has caused shock and outrage among the public,
02:21 promoting call for justice and greater awareness of such atrocities.
02:27 When this horrific video of mankind surfaced on social media, political leaders and others
02:33 expressed shock over the Manipur incident and asked the Centre and the state government
02:38 to take action against the men involved in the horrific act. Union Minister for Women
02:44 and Child Development Smriti Rani expressed her condemnation on Twitter. She wrote, "The
02:49 horrifying video of sexual assault of two women from Manipur is utterly condemnable
02:55 and inhuman. I spoke to CM N. Brijen Singh, who informed me that an investigation is underway
03:02 and he has assured that no effort will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice."
03:09 Rahul Gandhi also tweeted holding the Prime Minister accountable for inaction. The PM's
03:14 silence and inaction have led Manipur into anarchy. India will not remain silent while
03:20 the idea of India is under attack in Manipur. We stand with the people of Manipur. Peace
03:25 is the only way forward. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticised the PM for
03:30 ignoring the violent incidents in Manipur. "The image of sexual violence against women
03:35 from Manipur are heart-wrenching. No amount of condemnation will be enough for this horrific
03:41 incident. Women and child bear the brunt of violence in society. We must all unite in
03:46 condemning this violence and work towards peace in Manipur. Why is the Central Government,
03:52 including the Prime Minister, turning a blind eye to such disturbing incidents?"
03:58 The Aam Aadmi Party also issued a statement condemning the incident and urging the Prime
04:03 Minister's intervention. "The state and central government's inaction
04:07 is painful for all the citizens of a country. We once again request the Prime Minister's
04:12 intervention in Manipur." Ignoring the problem will not make it disappear.
04:17 The Aam Aadmi Party stands ready to assist in any way the central government deems fit.
04:22 NCP President Sarath Pawar has urged the Prime Minister's office and the Union Home Ministry
04:27 to take immediate steps to restore peace in Manipur.
04:30 Following the emergency of shocking visuals depicting two women being paraded naked in
04:36 the conflict-ridden state. In a tweet, he emphasized the need for unity, raising voice
04:42 and demanding justice for the people of Manipur. Sarath Pawar emphasized that the Home Department,
04:47 in conjunction with the PMO, must act swiftly to bring back peace to Manipur.
04:52 Supriya Sule, NCP working president and Sarath Pawar's daughter, also expressed a concern
04:57 and demanded swift action in response to the situation in Manipur.
05:02 In a tweet, she described the visuals as "disgraceful" and "utterly inhuman", underscoring the
05:08 urgency of the matter and calling for immediate action to address the distressing situation
05:13 in the state. Now, almost after three months, the Prime
05:17 Minister reacted. The Prime Minister spoke out against the Manipur incident ahead of
05:22 the monsoon session of Parliament. The incident of Manipur which has happened is absolutely
05:27 shameful for the civilized society. People who have committed crime, who have committed
05:32 sins stand on their side but because of them the whole nation has to face this humiliation.
05:40 Our total 140 crore citizens have to face this humiliation. I am requesting to all the
05:45 Chief Ministers to strengthen the law and order in the respective states, especially
05:50 to ensure the safety of our sister and daughter and take as severe actions as they can.
05:56 Whether incident happens in Rajasthan or Chhattisgarh or Manipur or in any corner of our country,
06:02 under any state government, overcoming all political arguments, respecting law and order,
06:08 respecting the women's dignity, I want to assure you, to the citizens of India, that
06:12 no perpetrator will be spared. Law and order with its full force will take concrete steps
06:18 and what has happened to daughters of Manipur will never be forgiven.
06:22 Now the question is, it has been 78 days since the full scale ethnic violence erupted in
06:28 Manipur and 77 days since the horrifying incident involving two women being stripped, paraded
06:35 and allegedly raped. What is even more inexcusable is that the Women and Child Development Minister
06:41 took 76 days to speak to the CM of Manipur or issue any statement regarding the matter.
06:49 While Manipur was burning, our Prime Minister was on his official visit to USA, Egypt, France,
06:57 UAE, Australia. Was he not aware about his own country, his own people and even if the
07:03 Prime Minister was out, what was the Home Minister Amit Shah doing? Didn't he add a
07:08 word and was not aware of his own ruling government in the state? Was the CM of Manipur not informing
07:14 about the situation to the centre, to his own party? Even the Home Minister did go to
07:20 Manipur. But again, was he informed about this?
07:23 Now when one case has come to light, Manipur CM on a telephonic interview with India Today
07:28 was asked about how his government was unaware of an incident where women were shamelessly
07:34 paraded naked by a group of men in a state. Manipur's CM N. Diren Singh said hundreds
07:40 of such cases similar to the incident have taken place. Hence, we invoke a ban on internet
07:50 in our state.
07:51 Today, I really feel ashamed of myself. In this story, I have not shown you any video
07:57 of that woman. Neither SW News Network will ever show such videos.
08:03 Point being, if I show you that video, that will eventually degrade that woman's image
08:08 and she has already suffered a lot. So I request you my viewers not to share that video on
08:13 social media and ask your friends and family members to do the same.
08:18 That's all. To know more about the Manipur incident, stay tuned with SW News Network.
08:24 Thank you for joining us.
