Lane Kiffin on Why Nick Saban is the GOAT
Transcript
00:00 You obviously have a pretty documented relationship
00:02 with Nick Saban.
00:03 I was wondering if you could expand on that a little bit
00:04 and just talk about how much he's meant
00:06 in your coaching career.
00:08 Well, I'm extremely grateful to Coach Saban
00:10 and our time together, and most importantly,
00:12 him giving me an opportunity to learn from him.
00:15 And, I mean, he's the best to ever do it.
00:19 I've said it before.
00:21 I really do believe he is the best coach to ever do it
00:25 because, like you guys know,
00:27 when I take in all the information and look at it
00:29 instead of just like, okay, a record,
00:32 he's done it in a time of scholarship limitations
00:36 where some of those older coaches didn't have them.
00:38 And they could -- I mean, what if Nick Saban
00:39 didn't have an 85-year-old?
00:41 What would his roster look like
00:42 if he had 150 scholarships to give?
00:46 And also, he's done what I don't think anybody did over time
00:49 of do it continually with so much staff turnover.
00:53 You know, so many people are hired off of his staff,
00:57 other places, to be head coaches.
01:00 And, you know, it's kind of like,
01:03 man, all these first-round picks,
01:05 and he loses these coordinators.
01:06 Like, you know, that's why we have fine moms,
01:10 so he can motivate them every other year
01:12 and say, oh, his dynasty's over, and, you know,
01:16 this is the end of Saban.
01:17 And then we're like, hey, thanks a lot for pissing him off.
01:21 And Paul's always wrong on this subject, so.
01:26 And he just did it again the other day.
01:28 You know, if he doesn't make the playoffs,
01:30 you know he's not any good as a coach.
01:33 So thanks, Paul.
