Nick Saban on Establishing an Identity as a Team
Transcript
00:00 Yeah, I think that we went through some struggles.
00:05 I forget what year, maybe 2013, 14, 15, somewhere along there,
00:11 where we were struggling early in the season.
00:16 We lost to Ole Miss early in the season.
00:19 We were sort of struggling on offense, couldn't find an identity.
00:25 Eventually found an identity and had a really good season.
00:30 So you keep searching.
00:32 I think you've got to get the right combination of players.
00:35 You've got to get the right chemistry, and everybody's got to do a good job.
00:41 I mean, I don't care what the identity is.
00:43 It comes down to execution, whether it's running or passing or punting.
00:50 It all comes down to your ability to execute.
00:53 And we've had too many inconsistencies in execution.
00:58 I mean, when you take drive-stoppers, okay, we had six offensive penalties.
01:09 Those are drive-stoppers.
01:11 Two of those penalties took points off.
01:13 We got sacked five times.
01:16 Sacks are drive-stoppers.
01:19 Drop balls are drive-stoppers.
01:22 When we have one, you know, drop ball.
01:25 So, and turnovers are obviously drive-stoppers.
01:30 The other team gets the ball and you don't have it.
01:33 So when you add all those up, you should be at a much more efficient percentage
01:39 than we were Saturday night, if you can figure it out.
01:44 So all those things come down to execution
01:47 and people's ability to execute to eliminate that.
01:51 So we'll keep working on it.
