00:00 looking to move forward after a difficult start to his second term.
00:04 Still, despite a minor cabinet reshuffle, Emmanuel Macron continues to affirm his desire
00:09 for continuity.
00:10 "I have chosen continuity and efficiency for the coming period by confirming and reaffirming
00:19 clearly my confidence in the prime minister."
00:25 While Prime Minister Elizabeth Borne made some changes to the government, they mainly
00:29 saw ministers from civil society replaced by more experienced politicians from the ruling
00:34 party, like former budget minister and Macron loyalist Gabrielle Attal, who took over as
00:40 education minister from minority studies professor Papin Diay.
00:44 Macron's speech marked the end of his self-declared 100 days of healing, following historic protests
00:50 over the forced passage of his unpopular retirement reform.
00:55 Just weeks before that period ended, new protests broke out over the police killing of a 17-year-old
01:00 in a Paris suburb, with many accusing the French government of failing to address institutional
01:05 racism and police violence.
01:08 "These crises show that there's a real danger of national fragmentation and division.
01:17 There's a need for authority, for respect and legitimate expectations.
01:23 And we'll have to come up with a response that is complete, meaningful and nationwide."
01:32 Among the other priorities Macron laid out are employment, public services like health
01:36 and education, and the environment.
01:39 He also called on his government to act with dignity and set an example, warning them that
01:44 being a minister is more than just appearing on TV.
