NWRB to monitor possible effects of TD #EgayPH, habagat on water level of dams
Transcript
00:00 It seems that the rain dance for the blessing of downpour has been answered lately.
00:05 However, the National Water Resources Board says the precipitation of late
00:09 has still been not enough to fill all the needs of a multitude for such a precious resource like water.
00:15 Mariela Esmoraz has more.
00:17 The National Water Resources Board is now closely monitoring tropical depression Egay and the southwest Monsur
00:26 with the hope that it will help increase the water level of dams in the country.
00:30 At the Laging Handa Program, NWRB Executive Director Sevilio David Jr. pointed out that the most recent heavy rains
00:38 and other weather disturbances that the country experienced are still not enough.
00:42 Based on the latest updates, the status in several dams like Angat have not yet reached the normal high water level.
00:50 We hope that this storm, this Egay storm, will have more rainfalls
00:58 so that our dams will continue to rise and improve.
01:02 As of now, the water allocation from Angat to Metro Manila has also decreased,
01:07 but the NWRB clarified that the public must not worry.
01:11 These are the last days of rain since last week.
01:17 What happened here, Aljo, is that the secondary dams like Ipo and Lamesa Dam
01:25 also had improvements in the water level.
01:29 And as of now, instead of using the water from Angat Dam,
01:37 they are using the water that is funded from Ipo and Lamesa Dam.
01:42 And on the other hand, Aljo, the water level from Angat Dam also helped to not go down too much.
01:49 For its part, the Pag-asa admitted that it is best to have three to four more typhoons to fill up the dams in the country,
01:55 especially amid the threats of the El Nino phenomenon.
01:58 It will be a big help if there will be typhoons, especially this July, August and September.
02:06 It's a typhoon season, so it will be a big help.
02:12 And hopefully, it will cross, because we need the typhoon to cross.
02:15 Otherwise, if it will just leave, it will be useless.
02:19 Especially now, it comes last quarter of this year and first quarter of next year,
02:28 we will experience the effects of the El Nino.
02:32 So we need to add more dams.
02:40 Melalee Moras for the Nation.
