00:02 Hey, I'm Issa Rae, and I'm gonna walk you
00:06 through my skincare routine
00:08 and my go to the office makeup look.
00:12 I'm gonna do something a little different,
00:14 and I am going to show you how I go to sleep at night.
00:18 'Cause there's no morning routine without my dutopia.
00:22 You gotta see this, huh?
00:24 I have not had a pimple in a year and a half
00:29 since using this, not even period pimples.
00:31 Like period pimples used to piss me off.
00:33 So I'm not jinxing myself, but I love this product.
00:36 So then, ooh, I went to sleep this morning.
00:39 Now I wash this off my face, Cetaphil.
00:41 Vaseline, and I'm putting this on
00:49 'cause I wanna talk to y'all with dry lips.
00:52 Scalp oil from CNN Actuals.
00:55 'Cause I just, I don't like, I'm dry.
00:57 I'm dry all the time, everywhere.
00:59 And scalp care is skincare.
01:03 I will rock, you know, braids.
01:05 I'm really good at wrapping my hair at night,
01:07 preserving hairstyles.
01:09 Barbie though, which y'all see my robe.
01:12 Barbie was a wiggy asset, I'll say that.
01:16 Vitamin C and E serum.
01:18 Dr. Stone for darker skin tones.
01:24 Even when I tried to approach doing a skincare routine
01:27 in my 20s, like I didn't see specific products
01:32 for black people, this immediately appealed to me.
01:36 You know, I do this in the mirror,
01:37 but I feel so vulnerable doing it in front of y'all.
01:41 But it's Vogue, and Vogue calls, you pick up, right?
01:46 When I'm on a set, it's so important to me
01:51 that I have people of color working with me,
01:54 people who understand, you know, black hair, black skin.
01:59 Even if you're not a person of color,
02:01 I need you to have that understanding.
02:03 You know, I used to have super dark circles under my eyes.
02:06 This is a Lancer Legacy Eye Treatment.
02:10 Mornings are my favorite time of day.
02:14 They are my time, like I get up super early.
02:16 I'm a 4 a.m. girl.
02:17 I get my workout in, and after my workout's done,
02:20 I feel like I've already tackled the day in the best way.
02:25 And then this is where you find me, my skincare routine,
02:28 and that's also a way to just unwind
02:29 and get ready for the day.
02:30 I do bask in it when I have time.
02:33 When I'm traveling, this entire routine goes
02:37 in a small pouch, like a kid.
02:40 It comes with me everywhere, every bathroom.
02:42 I unpack it first.
02:43 Wherever I'm at, I know that I'm home
02:45 and that my skin will be taken care of.
02:47 I use sunscreen a lot, and I've gotten better about it
02:50 because I was one of those ones,
02:53 I was one of those blacks that was like,
02:55 do I need it?
02:58 I've learned that cancer doesn't care where you're at,
03:02 so I make a concerted effort to put on sunscreen.
03:07 I will go to work without makeup if I'm in a rush,
03:12 and when I still wanna have that like glowy, dewy look,
03:16 I use this Tata Harper beautifying oil.
03:20 I love it.
03:21 I found out that one of my co-stars on Barbie,
03:24 Shuti, uses these.
03:26 I was like, he's using it, and he has amazing skin.
03:30 Let me tell you what will cause an immediate marital fight
03:40 is you touch my products,
03:42 and you don't know what they're doing,
03:44 and you come on my side and take my products.
03:47 Don't touch my face creams and use like globs of it.
03:52 Stay away from my skin products or the wars.
03:57 Am I a makeup artist?
04:00 No.
04:01 Have I ever done this before?
04:03 No.
04:04 You asked for this shit.
04:05 You clicked on the video, all right?
04:06 So first, we'll start with a little foundation.
04:11 Shishito, it's great for my skin tone.
04:13 I apply with a little beauty blender,
04:15 and I'm really only gonna apply right here.
04:17 Concealer, norse, as you say it with an LA accent.
04:26 Tap a little concealer on my lids too,
04:37 so that when I use the bronzer later, it will show up.
04:40 Fenty powder for my girl.
04:42 I saw her video.
04:43 It was cute.
04:44 I don't use much.
04:45 Bronzer really helps with that glowy look,
04:50 and the makeup artist that I do work with,
04:52 she gave me this three method
04:54 where you just go on the outer parts and make a three.
05:00 Ah, look!
05:01 I'm gonna switch my brush out,
05:07 and I'm gonna use this bronzer for my eyes
05:12 too, okay?
05:13 I love like bronzy colors.
05:16 I love gold colors.
05:18 I love like rosy reds.
05:21 I'm gonna go on my eye for a little,
05:26 a glowy look, you know?
05:28 This makes me look like I made an effort.
05:34 Like I genuinely care about the people that I work with,
05:38 which I do, and then I wanna show up for them.
05:40 (upbeat music)
05:43 I am playing President Barbie in the Barbie movie,
05:48 and she is an actual leader.
05:50 In Barbie Land, Barbies can do anything.
05:55 They can be anything.
05:56 When Greta approached me to be the president,
05:59 there wasn't like this big thing that,
06:03 oh, it's the black female president.
06:05 It was just like, you're in Barbie Land,
06:08 the president can be black,
06:10 and is black, and that's just what it is,
06:15 and I love that.
06:16 She also said the nicest thing.
06:17 She was like, you know, I was thinking,
06:20 in my fantasy world, you would be my president,
06:23 and I said, girl, why?
06:26 Why?
06:26 I love this eyebrow gel from Dime.
06:31 Dime, only Dimes use it.
06:33 I just thought of that.
06:35 So I usually brush down first.
06:37 (upbeat music)
06:40 Insecure is really just a,
06:47 what was the playground?
06:48 Everybody got the opportunity to
06:50 kind of give their best,
06:53 from the hair, to the makeup,
06:56 to the styling on the show.
06:57 A lot of people ask me if I really rap in the mirror.
07:00 No, and I've had people tell me,
07:05 like, I rap in the mirror just like you.
07:07 And I'm like, I don't do that, but good, I'm glad.
07:09 Whatever helps you, whatever helps, you know, get out,
07:12 you know, talk to myself around the house a lot.
07:14 But I do appreciate that Issa D gave people,
07:18 you know, a way to get their rationale,
07:21 get their feelings out in the mirror.
07:23 But this does make me feel a little bit nostalgic.
07:27 Add mascara.
07:29 This is the one with extra volume.
07:31 All liner.
07:36 (upbeat music)
07:37 I would say the best advice that I've gotten
07:40 has been like, what's meant for you will be yours.
07:43 That has gotten me through so many setbacks
07:46 and feeling like, ugh, where am I,
07:47 like the stagnation,
07:49 or like I've missed out on opportunities.
07:51 That really gets me through times
07:53 when I'm just like down on myself.
07:55 When something is mine,
07:57 and I'm ready for it, then I'm out here, baby.
08:03 (upbeat music)
08:06 I am so excited about this summer.
08:10 I have, you know, obviously "Spider-Verse" came out,
08:13 and that was such a big, big deal for me
08:15 to play Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew, and then Barbie.
08:20 And then I have the second season of "Rap Shit" coming out,
08:22 which is gonna, you know, take over the summer,
08:25 some for the summertime.
08:27 I'll put some blush on.
08:30 When I am,
08:31 like I need to play a role
08:35 when I feel like I've written it for me,
08:39 then it's mine.
08:40 But generally, I love to write for other people.
08:43 I wanna write for LaShonna Lynch, Quinta, Kiki Palmer.
08:49 I wanna write something for Yaya Abdul-Mateen.
08:52 So many people, honestly, come see about me.
08:53 Let's put a little lip liner,
08:55 and then I'll top it off with a little gloss.
08:57 (gentle music)
09:00 I love, like, neutral, dark '90s lip tones.
09:05 So this is a chestnut color that I really like.
09:07 This is a Sigma lip gloss.
09:11 I should've stolen so much stuff from the Barbie set
09:14 because, like, where else was I gonna get that?
09:17 You know, I have a niece.
09:18 I felt like I failed her.
09:20 There was so much stuff just in drawers
09:23 that the camera didn't even see
09:25 that nobody would know was there
09:26 except for the production and set designers.
09:28 But, like, really, what could you do about it?
09:29 And there were so many Barbies on set.
09:31 Man, I should've at least stolen clothes.
09:32 Pop it off with one of my favorites, Chanel No. 5.
09:34 I'm basic like that.
09:36 This is President Barbie signing out.
09:40 Thank you guys so much for taking this journey with me.
09:43 Bye!
09:44 (gentle music)
09:48 (door slams)
09:51 (gentle music)
