MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills Talks About The MEAC's Relationship With Atlanta.
Transcript
00:00 Excellent.
00:01 Hi Commissioner Steele, you honestly answered a lot of my questions in there, but one question
00:05 has been on my mind.
00:06 The MEAC swag challenge and the Celebration Bowl are played in Atlanta, Georgia.
00:09 What is the MEAC's relationship with the city of Atlanta and how do you guys plan to just
00:13 continue that relationship going forward?
00:15 Wow, we actually don't really have a relationship with Atlanta yet.
00:21 We love being in Atlanta for the Celebration Bowl and the MEAC swag challenge.
00:26 Actually, I was really excited when it was moved there.
00:30 You know, Atlanta has the largest alumni base that we have and actually I just went to one
00:36 of their MEAC picnics that has been going on for 27 years in Atlanta.
00:41 So, going there and just seeing that, it just felt like home.
00:46 It felt like a homecoming atmosphere and tremendous.
00:49 So, I look forward to building a relationship with Atlanta.
00:52 Absolutely. Now, this is kind of a low-hanging fruit question.
00:56 You always talk about the MEAC may or may not try to add teams or add something.
00:59 Clark Atlanta is in Atlanta.
01:01 You have Morehouse College.
01:03 When you look at the colleges in Atlanta, maybe in the state of Georgia or Savannah,
01:06 the state was a former MEAC school.
01:08 What do you think about those schools just in general and then maybe, if there's a chance,
01:13 they may be considered, you know, if you consider expanding?
01:16 Yeah, so, you know, of course, we're always looking to expand for the conference,
01:22 but we're looking for those who are going to really align with our mission and academically.
01:28 And so, we're not trying to rush to add schools right away.
01:38 But Clark Atlanta, Morehouse are extraordinary institutions academically
01:44 and they definitely align with our high academic institutions.
01:48 So, I don't know if they are, you know, willing to make that leap to Division I.
01:55 That remains to be seen.
01:57 But certainly, we are open to any institution who's interested in coming into the conference.
02:03 Absolutely. Thank you so much.
02:04 Good at work.
