NCCU head coach Trei Oliver talks about his quarterback Davius Richard.
Transcript
00:00 All right, coach, after the talk of the town, the day's rich in the way what people are
00:04 expecting from this coming season.
00:06 Just how you see new growth, how you guys came together essential.
00:09 How do you see the world from his freshman until now?
00:11 But I mean, there's great young man, always been even killed guy we talked about lots
00:17 of thermostat mentality within the program, you know, not getting too high, not getting
00:20 too low.
00:21 And he exemplifies that, you know, he's always an even keel young man.
00:25 If you look at during the celebration bowl or anytime, you know, he's not not gonna get
00:29 rattled at all.
00:30 But this offseason, I think he's an outstanding job with his goal mechanics.
00:34 A lot of guys are really clippings and not put the time in, but he's he's put a whole
00:39 lot of time in this offseason with mechanics.
00:42 He stays in the building watching film.
00:44 And he's also increased his speed.
00:46 You know, he's moving a little bit better now.
00:49 And with that, yeah, that could be scary.
00:51 But it's just great to have, you know, great young man like that in the program.
00:55 Last question for me, also, the quarterback and head coach relationship is really, really
00:59 tight.
01:00 And the noise can be a lot, you know, for any young players.
01:02 But what is your role in terms of as he's going to this last year, you know, hopefully
01:06 to the NFL in terms of just being being there a mentor for him, whether you know, over guiding
01:11 how letting him you know, be free, right?
01:13 Well, it's not just a quarterback, I have about 100 510 guys on the team.
01:18 And we had a great relationship with all of them.
01:20 Love my guys, you know, I'm there for me always come to my office and, you know, sit down
01:24 and chop it up and all that stuff.
01:26 But you know, back when he was in high school, his high school coach and mentor told me if
01:31 I wanted him, I had to fly down and sit down and talk to him and look him in the eye.
01:35 And it wasn't going to be just him coming up on a visit and us closing deals.
01:39 So we've had a very close relationship since the recruiting process back in 2019.
01:43 Thank you, coach.
01:44 Yeah, thanks.
