Transcript
00:00 >> Yeah, like- >> You good?
00:01 >> That's really good.
00:03 >> All right, Kenny, coming back into this year,
00:05 your guard's one of the best defensive backs in the media, really in SEAs.
00:08 What does that mean to you?
00:09 >> It's a blessing, right?
00:10 Just putting all the hard work in and seeing it pay off and things like that.
00:14 But at the same time, I know and I remind myself that I just gotta stay humble.
00:18 Anything, you can be at the top and you can fall to the bottom.
00:20 So just stay humble, keep working hard, keep doing what I'm doing,
00:23 being consistent, and everything else will come out on top.
00:26 >> Now, of course, Marcus Brown did transfer out over the summer.
00:30 What are you kinda seeing as you have Jevin Jackson and
00:32 other guys return up front in that front seven?
00:34 >> Man, them guys been working, man.
00:35 We got a couple young guys that are complete studs, man, they dominant.
00:39 They play, Marcus is a great player, he definitely will be missed.
00:42 But we got a couple guys that's stepping up.
00:44 We got a couple vets that's still here, Dion, Harry.
00:46 We got Darren Brockenburg.
00:48 Some guys will be a big part of us this year.
00:51 >> One guy to talk about too, Christian White, the linebacker, man.
00:53 What do you expect from him coming up and helping out in the defense?
00:56 >> Christian White, man, see what we call him, man.
00:57 He's a dog, man.
00:59 He's all over the field.
01:00 He's gonna fly around.
01:00 He's gonna communicate.
01:02 He's gonna watch film, make sure everybody's on point.
01:04 So, man, see why he gonna be dominant this year.
01:06 >> Yeah, on offense, they have three wide receivers coming back there pretty young.
01:09 Richie Lawazza, Casey Hawthorne, and Shaun Esakia.
01:13 What is it like kinda going against them and
01:14 practicing helping them kinda iron sharpen the iron?
01:16 >> Right, to be honest, I feel like, man, at HBC,
01:18 we play the best offense every day in practice.
01:20 You know what I'm saying?
01:20 We got the best receiver in court.
01:22 So just going against them, sharpening our tools, and
01:24 that helps us get prepared for the game.
01:25 >> 89 tackles, third in the MIAC last year, man.
01:30 What does it take to be a tackling defensive back?
01:32 You know, DBs always get the rap, like, they don't wanna tackle.
01:34 >> Right.
01:35 Really just being locked in, man.
01:36 One thing, like my high school coaches always say, when you're in between them
01:39 lines, you can hit somebody as hard as you want, and you won't get in trouble for it.
01:42 So that always in my mindset, just me, just being physical,
01:45 going in, reading my keys.
01:46 I watch a lot of film, so I get to react just a lot faster.
01:49 So it definitely helps me out.
01:50 But just being physical, that's one thing I like to do.
01:53 >> Now, as a veteran on this team,
01:54 you've kinda seen how Quentin Williams has grown up at the quarterback position.
01:57 How has he kinda just seen in your eyes, and
01:59 how do you expect to kinda continue growing?
02:01 >> Man, this season, I feel like Quentin, he's gonna definitely put on a movie, man.
02:05 Just him just getting deep more in the playbook,
02:07 having more experience with his guys, everybody's coming back.
02:09 So you know different receivers, and the chemistry is there.
02:12 So just trusting the process, and getting in this playbook,
02:15 I feel like Quentin's gonna be successful this year.
02:17 >> Last question for me, there were a lot of positives to take away from last season.
02:22 What does Howard University football need to do to take that next step?
02:24 >> Really like what Coach Yall always said, man, we need to elevate, man.
02:27 Really just be consistent, it's the little things.
02:29 So if we fix that right, be more disciplined, I feel like nobody will be able
02:32 to stop us.
02:33 >> Absolutely, can't even.
