00:00 For this list, we'll be ranking the most head-scratching, confounding, or otherwise
00:18 puzzling canonical moments in WWE that left our jaws on the floor.
00:23 What's your most WTF memory from watching WWE?
00:27 Let us know in those comments below.
00:31 Number 10.
00:32 Warrior Voodoo.
00:33 Charles Wright saw a lot of success as the Godfather during the WWE's Attitude Era,
00:39 but the man who once worked the streets was previously saddled with a different gimmick.
00:44 Wright was Papa Shango, a voodoo practitioner whose feud with the Ultimate Warrior resulted
00:50 in his infamous promo segment.
00:56 The Warrior was in the midst of an interview with Mean Gene Oakland when a viscous black
01:01 liquid began to emanate from his head.
01:14 This wasn't all either, as Shango's voodoo curse had previously caused Warrior some serious
01:19 stomach pains, to the point where he actually vomited on camera.
01:29 Number 9.
01:30 Dad Theft.
01:31 The extremity of the Attitude Era has been well-documented by fans over the years.
01:36 As a result, the laundry list of storylines that were done in poor taste is miles long.
01:48 The feud between The Big Show and The Big Boss Man definitely falls into this category,
01:53 as it all centred around Show's kayfabe mourning of his father.
01:58 Boss Man, for some reason, took umbrage to this, and focused on making Big Show's life
02:03 an absolute hell.
02:05 The apex of the feud came during an outdoor segment – shot at a real graveyard, by the
02:10 way – with Big Show literally riding on top of a coffin as Boss Man was dragging it
02:15 away.
02:16 If we didn't watch this segment live, we honestly couldn't even believe it was real.
02:29 Number 8.
02:30 Fake Diesel and Fake Razor.
02:32 It seems incredulous, even all these years later, that the WWF actually thought they
02:36 could get away with this one.
02:43 Kevin Nash and Scott Hall had already left the company, yet the WWF was determined to
02:48 keep the Diesel and Razor Ramon gimmicks alive.
02:52 As a result, Jim Ross, playing a heel character, brought in two other wrestlers to carry on
02:57 the characters.
03:04 Glenn Jacobs, the future Kane, and Rick Bognar did their best with this misguided gimmick,
03:11 but the fans saw right through this ruse immediately, and Fake Diesel/Fake Razor soon were abandoned
03:18 in the mists of pro wrestling folklore.
03:23 Number 7.
03:24 Trump vs. Rosie.
03:28 Long before Donald Trump became the President of the United States, he was collaborating
03:33 with Vince McMahon and the WWE.
03:35 This WTF moment, however, didn't even involve the real Trump, but instead, wrestler Ace
03:41 Steel.
03:42 Steel portrayed Donald Trump on the January 8, 2007 episode of Monday Night Raw, performing
03:48 in a gimmick match against a woman playing actress and talk show host, Rosie O'Donnell.
03:54 Trump and O'Donnell were in the midst of a public feud and war of the words around
03:58 this time, so WWE decided to strike while the proverbial iron was hot.
04:04 The end results were as cringe-worthy as one might imagine, and probably shouldn't be
04:08 re-watched by anyone.
04:16 Number 6.
04:17 Edge and Lita's Live Sex Celebration.
04:20 It was a WWE moment that would live on forever, in infamy.
04:24 It was Edge and Lita's live sex celebration on the January 6, 2006 episode of Raw.
04:31 The rated-R couple were celebrating Edge's first world title win at New Year's Revolution,
04:38 and did so in a most outlandish fashion.
04:43 The segment was tortury and provocative by that era's standards, never mind placed
04:49 against the current wrestling landscape.
04:52 Lita and Edge were a couple off-screen too, at the time, and their foreplay left little
04:56 to the imagination.
04:58 Ric Flair and John Cena would eventually interrupt the segment before it went all the
05:03 way, but the shenanigans didn't stop.
05:06 Cena tore the covers off of a now-clothed Lita and gave her an F-you for her trouble.
05:21 Number 5.
05:22 The Gobbledy Gooker.
05:24 It seems almost cliche at this point to reference the Gobbledy Gooker and the WBF.
05:29 It's a WTF moment that never seems to go away, no matter how much everyone involved
05:34 might wish it would.
05:35 There was a lot of build-up to what exactly was in this giant egg that was due to hatch
05:40 at the 1990 Survivor Series.
05:43 Was it going to be a debuting new wrestler?
05:45 A returning favourite?
05:47 What was in the egg?
05:48 Well, it was a member from one of wrestling's royal families, Hector Guerrero, just dressed
05:55 in a giant turkey costume.
05:57 The WWF reportedly intended the Gooker to be a mascot for the company, but he just didn't
06:03 take with the fans, who called "foul" and quickly became a walking, clucking punchline.
06:09 Number 4.
06:10 JBL and Godzilla.
06:13 John Bradshaw Layfield was no stranger to storylines that leaned hard into the cultural
06:18 stereotypes.
06:19 This was the same superstar whose feud with Eddie Guerrero featured a segment shot at
06:24 the border, after all.
06:37 This segment was a little less mean-spirited than JBL booting migrants in the butt, but
06:42 still culturally insensitive for sure.
06:44 It revolved around an episode of WWE SmackDown that was airing from Japan.
06:49 JBL had been accidentally shot with a tranquiliser gun (don't ask) and hallucinated that a
06:55 blow-up Godzilla doll was real.
06:58 He challenged it to a match, even stripping down to his undies in order to, we presume,
07:03 fight it better.
07:04 The segment is debatably still funny, but it's definitely not for the easily offended.
07:13 Number 3.
07:14 Choppy Choppy.
07:15 Was there any Attitude Error character that best exemplifies that period than Val Venus?
07:21 The adult film actor gimmick was tailor-made to their era's boundary-pushing storytelling,
07:26 as is this infamous feud with the Kayentai stable.
07:29 Venus had seduced the wife of Kayentai's leader, Yamaguchi-san, and the stable vowed
07:35 vengeance.
07:40 It all came to a head as an episode of Raw closed out, with Venus being held hostage
07:45 by Kayentai and their newest member, Takamichinoku.
07:49 The image of Michinoku and Kayentai holding down a nude Venus, shown from behind, and
07:54 their threat were burned into the eyes and ears of WWF fans for all time.
08:02 Number 2.
08:03 Pillman's Got a Gun.
08:05 We've discussed a lot of WWE moments that have been WTF for silly, gross or strange
08:11 reasons.
08:13 This one, however, still manages to shock so many years later.
08:24 Brian Pillman's loose-canon persona blurred the lines between wrestling reality and fiction
08:30 so well that even those close to him were never exactly sure what was real.
08:35 This is what made Pillman's feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin so terrifying – its unpredictability.
08:48 It officially went beyond the pale into WTF territory, however, when a "home invasion"
08:53 segment was shot for Raw.
08:55 The image of Austin breaking into Pillman's home, and the latter brandishing a freaking
09:00 gun on the Texas rattlesnake, nearly cost WWE everything during its original airing,
09:06 and it's still wild to watch today.
09:27 Number 1.
09:28 Birthing a Hand.
09:29 We're thankful that we can send off this list for you guys with an entry that's substantially
09:35 less dark, but no less WTF.
09:38 Mae Young was a certified wrestling legend who could go with the best of them, regardless
09:43 of gender.
09:49 She was also totally game for comedy angles too, such as the storyline that saw her in
09:55 a relationship with sexual chocolate Mark Henry.
10:02 The on-screen romance even resulted in Young becoming pregnant, although her delivery would
10:07 be a segment for the ages.
10:09 Mae Young didn't give birth to a bouncing baby boy or girl, but a hand.
10:18 There was no explanation given, although the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer had insinuated
10:24 that it could perhaps be a reference to a sex toy.
