00:00 - What kind of name is Pedro Pescat?
00:02 What kind of stage name is that?
00:05 - You're not supposed to be that handsome.
00:07 I mean, that's just like, that is the thing.
00:09 Like, that is what annoys me the most about Pedro.
00:12 That's why I hate him.
00:13 (upbeat music)
00:15 - It's a big sci-fi epic,
00:26 but you're shooting this in a show format.
00:28 I'm wondering if there was anything
00:30 that was surprising to you in the production process
00:32 of making the first season of "Andor,"
00:34 what, like, different from anything
00:36 that you've ever worked on, maybe.
00:37 - It is very different in terms of the storytelling,
00:41 the format, you know?
00:42 We have 12 episodes for this first season,
00:46 and that's like four films, you know?
00:49 Therefore, you can go very deep.
00:51 You can explore what film would never allow you to explore.
00:54 And at the same time, there is a rhythm, you know?
00:58 The rhythm, you know,
00:59 because people will be watching this once a week, you know?
01:03 So every episode needs a beginning and an end,
01:06 but at the same time, there is a long ride, you know?
01:11 A long arc that has to keep you there.
01:13 It's interesting.
01:16 I don't think that way, you know?
01:18 I approach my work as if there was always
01:22 a beginning and an end, you know?
01:23 I love theater.
01:24 You go into theater and things are born and die
01:28 the same night, you know?
01:29 Here is very different.
01:32 Gladly, we had a fantastic lead, which is Tony Gilroy,
01:36 that is an amazing writer,
01:38 and that learned the process
01:42 and understood the tools very quick.
01:45 As an actor, it's like complete freedom.
01:48 If you wanna explore something, there is time.
01:52 There's a chance, you know?
01:55 You can go very deep, you know?
01:56 And you can keep transforming in terms of the role,
02:00 you know?
02:01 Yes, there's many people that think about TV
02:04 as a repetition of something.
02:06 I see it completely different.
02:07 It's an opportunity to keep evolving,
02:10 keep transforming, and keep exploring, you know?
02:14 - We're getting more and more taste of Andor
02:16 before it was released,
02:17 and I know Star Wars fans everywhere are getting hype
02:20 because it just looks fantastic.
02:22 I'm wondering, how do you respond to fandom?
02:24 Do you read fan theories?
02:26 Do you engage in any of that online activity at all?
02:30 - I think the fans do that really well.
02:35 I love to hear about what people think
02:38 and their kind of take on what we do,
02:43 but really, our job is to step into those characters
02:47 and to kind of humanize them or lift them,
02:50 and then it's for other people to talk about
02:52 how that fits into the world.
02:54 I think my head might explode if I read too much
02:57 because of the pressure,
02:58 because Star Wars fans in particular
03:00 are so wonderfully passionate,
03:03 and so I wouldn't want to get it wrong.
03:06 - What was it like in there,
03:07 being on the stage for the Disney fans?
03:09 - It's wonderful to be a part of
03:12 such a huge celebration of work.
03:14 All the actors that are here,
03:16 like, I'm like a kid.
03:18 I'm gobsmacked at some of the people
03:20 I'm getting to meet and talk to.
03:22 It's so wonderful,
03:23 and it's so great to have a central experience for fans,
03:28 especially after the last few years.
03:31 How great is it to get together
03:33 and to be able to celebrate and get excited together?
03:38 - I mean, you always look sharp, sir, I have to say.
03:40 - Well, I have the ring.
03:41 - And armor is the perfect person
03:43 to get your ring, I think, right?
03:44 - It really embodies the strength and power,
03:47 but also the cultivated and marvelous ease of grace.
03:52 - Oh, wow, what a compliment.
03:55 - She is that woman.
03:56 - I'm gonna bring him with me to every single interview.
03:58 - Giancarlo has a way with words.
03:59 I think we all know.
04:01 I want to ask you guys,
04:02 you know, the armorer and Moff Gideon,
04:04 we fell in love with these characters,
04:07 we want to know more,
04:08 and I'm wondering, what in season three
04:09 are we gonna get to learn?
04:11 How do the characters expand?
04:12 What can you share with us?
04:13 - This show is so specific,
04:15 and I would venture to say that
04:16 just from what I see from the trailer,
04:18 because I'm picking up pieces just like you are,
04:21 that the empowerment of women is really marvelous,
04:25 because the characters can only deepen.
04:28 They deepen along with the visual imagery that supports it,
04:31 but it really is about character.
04:32 So sometimes you may not have many words,
04:35 or you may not even see a certain person's face,
04:39 but still, to be able to deepen that character's intentions
04:43 without having any of that advantage
04:45 is a powerful part of this world,
04:47 and I think Dave and John really got it right.
04:50 - Anything to add to that?
04:52 - Well, I think one of the, you know,
04:54 I'm thinking back to the very beginning of the series,
04:57 and I think one of the things that drew us in
04:59 from the beginning is that we were faced with this,
05:03 well, this hero, the Mandalorian, Din Djarin,
05:06 who thought he was going to live his life one way,
05:09 and was suddenly faced with a challenge
05:12 that he sort of didn't want to take,
05:14 but couldn't help but accept.
05:16 And I think that in season three,
05:19 we are going to see various characters
05:21 who are going to have challenges
05:22 that they can't help but accept,
05:24 and the joy of watching that
05:26 and seeing how they handle that
05:28 is one of the things that's so captivating about the series.
05:32 So I think we have that to look forward to.
05:34 - You know, Pedro Pascal is getting a lot of love
05:36 on the internet, and people really adore that man,
05:39 but I was wondering, between you and us, right?
05:41 - I hate him.
05:42 - Yeah, tell us about the things that bother you.
05:44 - About Pedro?
05:45 - What kind of name is Pedro Pascal?
05:48 What kind of stage name is that?
05:50 - You're not supposed to be that handsome.
05:53 I mean, that's just, that is the thing.
05:56 That is what annoys me the most about Pedro,
05:57 is you're not supposed to be kind,
06:02 you're not supposed to be humble,
06:06 you're not supposed to be understanding and giving
06:10 and funny, you can't have it all.
06:13 That's why I hate him.
06:14 - Yeah, you know what?
06:15 We hate him too now.
06:16 - Thank you, thank you.
06:18 Get on my wagon.
06:19 - Now I'm wondering, on the Bo-Katan playlist right now,
06:21 she's going through a lot.
06:22 She wants to be the ruler of Mandalore.
06:27 I'm wondering, what would be on her playlist?
06:29 What hypes you up when you're getting into Bo-Katan?
06:31 - I feel like she's listening to a lot of 80s hair bands,
06:36 like Poison on Rotation, probably, things like that.
06:40 Maybe some White Snake.
06:42 That's definitely what's going on in her head.
06:44 (upbeat music)
06:47 - Let me hold this.
06:49 - Look, I mean, from moment one
06:52 that I knew he was gonna be the Mandalorian,
06:56 I was excited.
06:57 - I like how this is going.
06:58 - Yes, yes.
06:59 So I've been a fan, and so it's been exciting
07:03 to kind of bring my love of Star Wars
07:06 and then also have the opportunity
07:08 to work with this amazing gentleman.
07:11 So yeah, all that stuff you hear is well-deserved.
07:14 - You know, Pedro, everyone loves Daddy Dent.
07:18 You know, like, what can you say
07:20 about being in this character for like three seasons now?
07:23 - It's just been an amazing experience.
07:26 And so much of it is being a passenger
07:29 to the talents of Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Rick Famuyiwa.
07:34 And I think that they're just so smart about everything,
07:37 bringing in an indie film director
07:40 that can, you know, play with the tone
07:42 of something that we know so well
07:44 and color it with really, really human storytelling.
07:48 I love being directed by Rick.
07:51 I think that the shorthand with you,
07:56 that day that I got to reveal my face
08:01 in a significant way, was with Rick.
08:05 And it kind of helped me discover
08:10 what it was all about, ultimately.
08:12 And that was on my day shooting with Rick, and so.
08:15 But everybody else is really great, too.
08:18 (laughing)
08:20 (upbeat music)
08:23 (thunder rumbling)
08:26 (upbeat music)
