01:06 Ferries are a common mode of transport in Indonesia, an archipelago of more than 17,000
01:11 islands, and accidents are common as lax safety standards often allow vessels to be overloaded
01:16 without adequate life-saving equipment.
01:19 In 2018, a tragic incident on Lake Toba on Sumatra Island resulted in the drowning of
01:24 192 people when an overloaded ferry overturned and sank.
01:28 However, in May of the following year, a ferry ran aground in waters of East Nusa Tenggara
01:33 province with over 800 passengers on board, resulting in no injuries.
