00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:08 On Wednesdays, we wear the same thing we always do.
00:12 Cody, Cody, Cody.
00:14 Mr. Rhodes is set to take on Brock Lesnar at Summerslam in just over a week's time,
00:19 and he's just had the premiere of his documentary American Nightmare, colon, becoming Cody Rhodes.
00:24 Even despite his WrestleMania loss, which is still a creative error, I will die on this
00:28 bill, things are looking up for Cody as he maintains his popularity.
00:31 However, things weren't quite so peachy on his previous run in WWE, as of course he
00:35 famously left the company and started his own promotion, though I forget the name of
00:39 the place now, must be some indie fed.
00:41 And as had been mentioned, there seemed to be a lot of creative frustration surrounding
00:44 that decision, with the Stardust gimmick, him not being used correctly, etc.
00:48 But Cody has now revealed the exact moment he knew it was time to go.
00:52 During the Q&A session at the premiere for his documentary, Cody was asked about his
00:56 initial exit from WWE, and said that after speaking with his father Dusty Rhodes, he'd
01:00 encouraged him to leave if he was so unhappy.
01:02 He'd been mulling it over, but the moment that made him realise he should leave was
01:06 at a WWE live event, where he approached a writer who was sitting at his laptop, where
01:10 the writer seemingly shooed Cody away with a hand wave and continued tapping away at
01:15 his laptop.
01:16 But Cody noticed that his laptop screen was actually blank, and the writer was quite clearly
01:20 just pretending because he didn't want to talk to Cody.
01:23 Cody said he was so angry that he confronted Triple H about it and said he wanted to punch
01:27 that writer in the face, to which Triple H told him he should, but Cody instead left
01:31 the company and made that...company...called...I can't remember.
01:36 While the identity of the writer is unknown, Cody did also mention that the writer is still
01:40 employed in WWE today.
01:42 I hope they're doing a little more than typing on a blank screen though.
01:46 But that's some heat there between Cody and that WWE writer, but I'm no expert on
01:50 wrestling heat, so instead I'm going to hand it to WrestleTalk's weather reporter
01:54 Helen Temperature, who's going to tell us exactly how much heat there is.
01:58 And considering this heat prompted the start of AEW, there's got to be a fair amount of
02:04 heat there.
02:05 How's it looking out there, Helen?
02:06 "This is hotter than your average Kane entrance.
02:09 That's an 8."
02:11 Oh, you a big Kane fan, Helen?
02:14 "Oh yes.
02:15 I think his movie is incredible."
02:17 His...movie?
02:18 Oh, Cena Evil?
02:19 "No, Citizen Kane."
02:20 Oh.
02:21 Ok.
02:22 Thank you, Helen.
02:23 Elsewhere in the media press for his documentary, Cody spoke to Jimmy Trainor on SI Media, and
02:34 touched on his WrestleMania 39 loss, which is still a creative error, I will die on this
02:38 hill.
02:39 Cody mentioned that he was surprised at how pissed people were, saying that management
02:43 within WWE were checking in on him and warning him not to go online after the match.
02:47 Why?
02:48 Were people upset?
02:49 Were people calling it one of the biggest creative blunders in years?
02:52 Not sure why people would do that, unless of course it is.
02:55 But that's in the past, that's WrestleMania, let's talk about Summerslam.
02:58 We spoke yesterday about some potential LA Night plans that could line up for the show,
03:02 which currently are pencilled in to be a segment/angle of some sort, but he's not the only one.
03:08 According to Works Wrestling on Twitter, while nothing is set in stone, Grayson Waller may
03:12 be lined up to have some sort of segment with a WWE legend.
03:16 This comes after his segment at Money in the Bank with John Cena, and his interactions
03:19 with Edge on Smackdown at Madison Square Garden.
03:21 So I assume it'll be Cena again, where Cena will be telling the Detroit crowd that they
03:26 should bring WrestleMania to their city.
03:28 There is of course also the looming factor of Waller having Twitter back and forth with
03:32 The Rock as of late.
03:33 Could we be seeing The Rock return to WWE to beat up Waller a little bit?
03:37 It would be interesting to have The Rock on the same show where tribal combat decided
03:40 to take place between Reigns and Jey Uso, especially since we know it was The Elder's
03:45 idea to have that match in the first place.
03:47 So maybe we think we've got all of The Rock that we're going to get earlier in the night
03:50 with Grayson Waller, but then he makes his presence felt in the tribal combat match in
03:54 the main event?
03:56 I think that'd be cool.
03:57 Another thing that may lend Rock to doing an appearance at Summerslam is after taking
04:00 a few hits to his image in Hollywood and beyond, he may look to curry favour by doing a feel-good
04:05 appearance at WWE, but that is 100% speculation on my part.
04:10 Now as we spoke about on yesterday's news video, the angle that took place on this week's
04:14 Raw where Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest dumped Kevin Owens on the stage to distract Sami
04:18 Zayn in his match against Dominik Mysterio was reportedly done because KO had a legitimate
04:22 injury.
04:23 In a backstage segment, KO could be heard speculating that he had a broken rib to the
04:27 doctors who were checking him out, and as we mentioned, there may have been some truth
04:30 to that.
04:31 But as it turns out, if I had a dime for every time that there was a legitimate injury that
04:35 was covered with an injury angle on this week's episode of Raw, with the angle being carried
04:38 up by Rhea Ripley, I'd have two dimes, which isn't much but it's weird it happened
04:42 twice.
04:43 Plus, as it turns out, the angle involving Rhea injuring Liv Morgan by stamping on her
04:47 arm that was wrapped in a chair was also hiding some truth according to PWInsider and Wrestling
04:52 Observer Radio, as Morgan is reportedly suffering from a separated shoulder yet again, with
04:57 Bryan Alvarez saying, "Liv Morgan does have a shoulder injury and this was an angle to
05:01 put her out of action for a while and maybe a long while.
05:04 I guess that is to be determined."
05:06 However it is reportedly the other shoulder, rather than the same one this time as Morgan
05:10 has only just come back from a separated shoulder injury.
05:13 Which again, if I had two dimes for every time Liv Morgan had a separated shoulder,
05:17 we at WrestleTalk would of course like to wish Liv well in her recovery.
05:21 Wrapped in with all this, as mentioned before, is Kevin Owens' injury, and there's been
05:24 an update on that side too.
05:25 While there's still some uncertainty over it, Dave Meltzer did mention on Wrestling
05:28 Observer Radio that he does have a fractured rib, and that he has in fact been working
05:32 with it for a while.
05:34 WWE had reportedly been waiting for a break in KO and Sami's story to give KO the time
05:39 off to heal properly, so I guess a week out from Summerslam is the best time for it.
05:43 I'm being glib as it seems they weren't factored into the show as it is, so it is
05:47 actually a pretty good time to pull the trigger.
05:49 Them not being at the show was mentioned in yesterday's news video as well, as WWE is
05:53 reportedly considering Summerslam this year full with 9 matches.
05:57 But even with all these injuries, Raw still did pretty well for viewership all things
06:00 considered, as the show averaged 1.818 million viewers, with some very fun numbers like Dominik
06:05 Mysterio vs. Sami Zayn peaking at nearly 2 million viewers.
06:08 Dom Dom is a draw draw.
06:10 Now over in AEW, Roosh recently announced that he had re-signed with the company after
06:15 back and forth and teasers that he could be leaving.
06:17 Now Jose The Assistant has chimed in with some extra information saying exactly why
06:21 Roosh chose AEW over going elsewhere, presumably WWE.
06:26 Roosh re-signed with AEW because of how much concern Tony showed for Roosh's wife and
06:30 newborn.
06:31 Family is important to Roosh, seeing how much Tony cared is what solidified the deal.
06:35 There were other offers, but never any consideration to go.
06:38 AEW cares, Tony cares about his people.
06:42 Following this re-signing, CM Punk claimed Roosh as his own on Instagram, captioning
06:45 the video of the re-signing with "Collider" which is the name given to those on Collision,
06:50 so I assume those who are on Dynamite are Dynamiters or Exploders?
06:55 Exploders is much cooler.
06:57 Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio as well that AEW are looking to re-sign people
07:01 to new multi-year deals.
07:02 And while we don't know the length of this contract right now, it's fair to assume
07:06 that this could have been one of them.
07:07 Earlier in AEW, they recently put on their Blood & Guts show, which saw the AEW debut
07:12 of Kota Ibushi.
07:13 And while it was hinted that he could be appearing at more AEW shows, nothing has been confirmed
07:17 as of yet.
07:18 Which then begs the question of what's happening when AEW comes to London for All In?
07:22 Will Kota be joining them?
07:24 Yes, please, I would like to see him wrestle.
07:26 On Wrestling Observer Radio, it was mentioned that there's every chance Ibushi could join
07:30 AEW for the show.
07:31 In fact, it even seems likely, as while nothing is confirmed, Ibushi himself believed he's
07:36 going to the Wembley show.
07:38 Which seems fairly conclusive, but you never know I suppose.
07:42 Still though, it seems like Ibushi should be in London, which makes me all warm and
07:45 fuzzy inside.
07:46 And now it's time for my one minute one take, where I will attempt to recount everything
07:50 that happened on last night's episode of NXT in one minute and in one take.
07:54 Start the timer!
07:55 The show started with a triple threat being made for the Great American Bash for Dominic
07:57 Mysterio's North American Championship between him, Wesley and Muspura Lee, which again was
08:01 made when Rhea said so on Dom's behalf.
08:03 Session in the Judgment Day!
08:05 Tony DeAngelo and Stacks say they're going to win the tag titles in a match that's set
08:07 up between them and Bronco Neymar and Lucian Price, where DeAngelo and Stacks won, where
08:12 Scripps was on guest commentary.
08:13 Carmelo Hayes and Ilja Dragunov won the How Will They Coexist tag match against The Schism,
08:17 Von Wagner squashed a guy but was then attacked by Braun Breaker.
08:19 Dable Steeves' debut match will be a Great American Bash against Baron Corbin, glad he
08:23 got drafted to Raw.
08:24 Dana Brooke defeated Cora Jade in a Kendo Stick match, holy s*** she actually won something.
08:28 Dijak cut a promo on Eddie Thorpe, Blair Davenport and Roxanne Perez brawled in a supermarket,
08:32 have I seen that before?
08:33 And a pre-show 8 person tag match is set for Great American Bash with Meta 4 vs Dragon
08:36 Lee, Nathan Frazier, Valentin Frost and Ulissa Leon.
08:38 Thea Hale was training for her title match and lost to Thario so break it up, oh no!
08:42 Rhea Ripley then beat Lyra Ralkiria and the show closed with Dragunov, Williams and Hayes
08:46 brawling ahead of the title match on Sunday.
08:48 The NXT title match that is.
08:50 On Sunday.
08:51 I basically got that didn't I?
08:54 I think that was probably a minute.
08:55 I don't have a timer and the screen that normally has the timer on it, the timer isn't working
08:59 so I can't see if it was a minute or not.
09:02 But I'm pretty confident I did it.
09:03 I'm pretty certain that the comments are going to be on my side here.
09:06 I definitely, I nailed that.
09:08 I mentioned yesterday's news video quite a bit in the video today so why not check that
09:12 one out featuring me doing the Raw review too.
09:14 Here's a clip.
09:15 I'm just a wrestler and has begun being an agent/producer for AEW as well.
09:21 Which in case you don't know, involves being on a headset during matches, giving information
09:25 to ringside informing TV production of planned spots.
