00:00 The British Medical Association has said that junior doctors in England are to stage a four-day
00:05 walkout from August 11 to August 15.
00:08 This comes despite Prime Minister Rishi Sunak saying earlier this month that there would
00:13 be no more negotiations on the pay offer put forward this year, which for junior doctors
00:18 ranges between 8.1% and 10.3%.
00:21 But the BMA has said it "is not for Rishi Sunak to decide when negotiations are over
00:27 without stepping into a room with the union."
00:29 It's reported that junior medics are looking for a return to the salary equivalent to what
00:33 they earned in 2008, which is equivalent to a 35% pay rise.
00:37 This walkout will be the fifth time junior doctors have taken industrial action amidst
00:41 their pay dispute with the government.
00:43 Dr Robert Lawrenson and Dr Vivek Trividi, the co-chairs of BMA's junior doctor council,
00:50 said it should never have gotten to the point where we needed to announce a fifth round
00:54 of strike action.
00:55 They went on to say, "Our message today remains the same."
