00:00 Okay so obviously this is not a movies review channel and I'm not here to review Barbie
00:04 the movie well unless you want to stick to the very end so don't worry about spoilers
00:08 or anything like that if you haven't seen it yet in theaters but I have and I've also
00:13 been hearing a lot about Taylor Swift and Barbie including some really interesting connections.
00:19 First is this huge easter egg we got with the Taylor Swift albums okay just joking it
00:24 was something funny I saw while scrolling mindlessly through Instagram and I know I
00:28 know it is not an easter egg guys Taylor Swift did not invent colors I think it actually
00:34 was a Chanel necklace for those of you who are curious but second though is maybe a slight
00:40 spoiler and there is no Taylor Swift song in Barbie I know that's a letdown for some
00:45 of you and it would have certainly been interesting because it's already got a historical opening
00:50 weekend and even Monday at the box office and I think that would have only been aided
00:55 by having Taylor Swift in the movie obviously there's some overlap in Taylor's more usual
01:01 demographic in Barbie plus some songs that probably would have went well with certain
01:05 scenes in the movie but Taylor stayed out of this one and it seems like she's just
01:09 focusing on having her music stick to the summer I turned pretty on streaming and out
01:13 of the cinemas this summer.
01:15 Lastly, I want to touch on all the comparisons we're getting between Taylor Swift and Barbie
01:20 who is of course played by Margot Robbie and yes they do share similarities I actually
01:26 have no idea there was a Barbie doll for Taylor Swift until I looked it up after the movie
01:32 and then I realized yeah of course there is because I mean in no way to be disparaging
01:36 Taylor does have that Barbie look at times and I actually think the best instance of
01:41 this may not be something you've seen before and that's the 2012 Glamour photoshoot I mean
01:46 this was probably the closest to Barbie I've ever seen Taylor Swift look but that's just
01:51 what I remember from my knowledge Barbie and Taylor Swift do undeniably share one thing
01:57 in common though and that's how they're both seriously stimulating the economy and I'll

02:07 the last part drumroll movie review now please don't take this in the wrong way but part
02:12 of me is kind of happy Taylor Swift wasn't included and again that isn't meant to be
02:16 hateful Barbie has some really good messages in it it illuminated some really good points
02:21 about society that I think both women and men yes guys out there should see but it also
02:26 was blatantly spiteful and mean in many instances while it had a great aesthetic the movie characters
02:33 weren't exactly the most compelling either there weren't any super great arcs or nuances
02:39 obviously I'm coming from a guy's perspective and I absolutely support women but that doesn't
02:44 make Barbie a flawless movie and I think at some points is far from it however I respect
02:50 everyone's opinion out there and can see why people are enjoying it I'm always really open
02:55 to hear what you all have to say because I do think it's through listening to each other
02:59 that we address the gender issues that Barbie Taylor Swift and many many others have brought
