00:10 I didn't really understand what acting was.
00:13 You know, I remember my sister telling me this thing once.
00:17 She said, acting is not about facial expressions.
00:21 It's about how you feel and how that takes expression.
00:27 Therefore, your eyes are very, very crucial.
00:30 It's not just about a pretty face.
00:32 And I don't know whether I understood any of it
00:34 when she said it to me.
00:36 But I guess over time, as I grew up,
00:38 I began to understand what it was.
00:42 And you know, learned on the job.
00:44 Actually, for the camera, you need to do very little.
00:47 And the camera-- because the camera
00:49 picks up every little thing.
00:51 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:56 I think first is just pure instinct.
00:59 When I hear something or when I read something,
01:04 I can't describe it.
01:04 I've not figured it.
01:05 It just calls out to me.
01:07 You know, and I feel like, oh, this is something I want to do.
01:09 This is a person whose life I want to live.
01:13 I think I began to realize the value a good producer can
01:17 bring to a film by just creating an atmosphere that
01:21 is very conducive for everyone to, you know,
01:24 give their best.
01:25 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:30 Actually, it's interesting that the roles I choose
01:34 or I veer towards almost respond to my state of mind.
01:38 I'm in a happier space now.
01:39 So I've just done a film called "Tumhari Sulu," which--
01:44 where I play, you know, a very happy-go-lucky person.
01:48 She's like an Enthu cutlet.
01:50 I think every role alters me in some way.
01:53 I don't know whether I'm playing to the gallery by saying that,
01:55 because everyone expects me to say that.
01:57 But I do think "The Dirty Picture" and more so "Ishqiya"
02:01 are the two films that really--
02:04 you know, it-- they really loosened or freed
02:09 some part of me.
02:10 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:15 I think it's never easy to deal with failure.
02:17 I think probably you realize with experience, with time,
02:22 that it's not the end of the world.
02:24 You know, when a film doesn't work,
02:26 it's almost like a breakup.
02:28 You don't want to listen to the songs from the film.
02:30 You don't want any-- any memories creeping up.
02:33 You almost want to push it.
02:34 But now I'm better.
02:36 It's not like I'm not going to listen to a song of a film,
02:39 because it hasn't worked.
02:40 So I guess I've matured.
02:42 So my-- so I know this is part and parcel.
02:46 So if there are flops, there will be hits.
02:47 If there are hits, there will be flops.
02:49 That's fine.
