00:00 The Premier facing tough questions as Sydney's gangland war ramps up.
00:07 I'm not going to minimise it. I understand that the people of Western Sydney in particular would be concerned about it, worried about it.
00:14 Three shootings in the past week have left two young men dead and another recovering in hospital.
00:20 It's prompted NSW Police to set up Strike Force Magnus with 100 officers moving into a newly established headquarters in Sydney's west.
00:29 They've been tasked with taking back control of the streets.
00:33 And we will of course speak with and communicate with NSW Police about any legislative changes they may need to strengthen their hand to ensure community safety.
00:43 The latest series of gangland hits began a month ago when prominent underworld figure Alan Muradian was gunned down in a Bondi Junction car park.
00:53 Ten days later a gunman opened fire inside a hair salon on busy Marrickville Road, injuring two brothers.
01:00 Then this week began with a shooting in Greenacre on Sunday where a gunman shot Ahmad Al-Azzam as he sat in his car.
01:08 He died in hospital yesterday.
01:10 A couple parked nearby were also hit by stray bullets but survived.
01:15 Two days later criminal lawyer Mahmood Abbas was shot in his driveway.
01:20 Early the next morning, Ferenc Stemmler, known as David, was shot dead outside his Canterbury home.
01:27 Police believe the latest conflict in south-western Sydney is motivated by the illicit drug trade and internal finger-pointing over who might be working with police.
01:36 They say it's escalated in recent weeks from firing warning shots to outright murder.
01:41 The way of causing compliance within these groups and resolving conflict was to shoot each other's houses up.
01:47 That obviously didn't work within an environment. That's escalated to gangland homicides.
01:53 Leaving residents in Sydney's south-west on edge.
