00:00New South Wales police are appealing for information to help find the person that caused a fatal
00:11stabbing in Marrickville last night.
00:15Emergency services were contacted at about 7.40 on Monday evening to report of a stabbing
00:19on Marrickville Road.
00:22When emergency services arrived, they found an unconscious 32-year-old man on the pavement
00:28outside a fast food restaurant.
00:31They attempted to perform CPR on this man and revive him, but it was not successful
00:36and he died at the scene and a crime scene was established.
00:40New South Wales police have revealed that they understand the 32-year-old victim knew
00:47his attacker.
00:48So, the 32-year-old man was actually in the area of Marrickville dining with family and
00:53friends in the lead up to this incident.
00:56CCTV footage shows that the 32-year-old man met up with his attacker.
01:02They had a brief conversation before the stabbing occurred.
01:07New South Wales police inspector Ben Kinnis spoke a little bit more about the connection
01:12between the victim and their attacker.
01:15They understand that this was a targeted attack and it wasn't random.
01:20This and CCTV evidence that we have gathered does depict a person that we believe may be
01:28able to assist our enquiries run down Silver Street.
01:31The community can rest assured that, as I said before, we believe those two people met
01:37up and it was targeted.
01:38It was not a random attack on Marrickville Road.
01:41The violent act has been met with complete shock from members of the community and locals.
01:47This morning when the media were covering what had happened last night, a lot of people
01:53were going about their daily routines.
01:56There's no sign of a crime scene here in Marrickville this morning, so a lot of locals were completely
02:03unaware of what had actually happened overnight.
02:07We had also seen the reaction from family members.
02:11Footage obtained from the scene last night showed that family members had actually run
02:15onto the crime scene and had a confrontation with emergency services there.
02:22There were signs of distress and anguish and police described it as a highly emotive crime scene.
02:30We also know that there are lots of passerbys in the area.
02:33Last night, Marrickville is filled with lots of restaurants and there are supermarkets
02:38in the area, so there were a lot of locals going about their evening routine, getting
02:42dinner or getting groceries and have come across this confronting scene.
02:46Here's what one passerby had to say last night.
02:49We just went to the Woolies to buy some ice creams and when we went crossing here, we
02:55just saw one guy on the floor and the police was helping this guy and then after we come
03:00back from the Woolies, the guy passed away in five minutes.
03:03I am from overseas and I know that this country is so safe and to be honest, I didn't expect
03:09this kind of things happening in this country.
03:13Police say because there were so many people in the area and so much CCT footage to go
03:18through that they will be canvassing all of that today as part of their investigation
03:23but they are yet to ID the attacker behind this incident and they're urging anyone with
03:29information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
