Butcher Oliver Moore worries he might have to let staff go while the Sturry Road closure is in place.

00:00 So how is this road closure affecting your business Oliver?
00:04 So we've had on and off road closures for about 18 months now
00:08 and obviously this one with Story Hill being shut
00:12 virtually cuts our trade in half. We've gone from turning over
00:16 about £50,000 a week down to £30,000/£35,000
00:20 which for a small family run business is quite a hit.
00:24 Obviously we've had little help from the council. We've got
00:28 poor signage up the road which shows no access to here.
00:32 And yeah, I mean it's not just us
00:36 it's not just the butchers, the farm shop and the hairdressers I know are moaning
00:40 so yeah, it's just difficult really.
00:44 And how do you think you're going to get through the next few weeks? Will you have to make changes at your
00:48 business? I mean I hope we don't have to lay off staff but obviously
00:52 if that is what we need to survive then
00:56 it might have to be done. We had Rooks, obviously a very very big butchers chain
01:00 go bust last year and I think it's a dying trade as it is
01:04 with not a lot of people realising that it is cheaper to shop at a butchers
01:08 but I hope we don't have to but
01:12 if we do then some staff might have to go.
