00:05 - My name's Robert Clark.
00:32 I'm a freelance photographer and I'm shooting a picture
00:34 of a 45 foot snake for the Smithsonian Magazine.
00:37 Look, I think like the octa bank up as high as it can go
00:41 without the diffusion on it to begin with.
00:44 And then we'll just kind of build from that.
00:46 What we're trying to do here is we have this nice,
00:49 big, beautiful model.
00:51 We're trying to light different sections of it.
00:54 So we're treating it like it's a headshot of a person.
00:56 So I'm just kind of trying to get the lighting
00:58 just all sussed out and figure out
01:00 what we're gonna do with it.
01:01 For me, it's about lighting something
01:03 and getting people to look where I want them to look.
01:05 He's got real personality.
01:07 Thank God we got this.
01:09 This wasn't working this morning.
01:12 Then we're gonna pull it in Photoshop, Luke,
01:17 after we get this and just make sure
01:19 that the eye pops out enough.
01:20 Pretty amazing to think that there was something
01:25 that this enormous, so it's a good story.
01:28 Sometimes when you're out shooting stuff
01:29 and you only have a minute or two to do it,
01:31 you just do the best you can and figure it out.
01:34 Here you have a lot of time and a lot of possibilities.
01:39 I might want a diffusion on this head.
01:41 It's looking pretty interesting.
01:44 And now, just gonna try different lens choices,
01:46 like longer lens and shorter lens
01:48 just to throw the background out of focus more.
01:50 You know, there's an endless variety.
01:52 Yeah, you need to go foot that way.
01:55 Photography's, in most situations,
01:59 is really about what you leave out
02:00 and what you choose not to include.
02:03 Come look at this, it's a pretty good beginning.
02:06 Thank God for digital, that we don't have to shoot this
02:08 and then wait to see the film anymore.
02:11 You need to get some light on that
02:12 so there's context to it.
02:14 But if you look at that, that's kinda cool.
02:16 No, it needs something in there, too.
