00:00 (blender whirring)
00:02 Yo, yo, yo.
00:09 My name is Jacques Slade and welcome to my mind massage.
00:14 (clicking)
00:17 (squeaking)
00:23 (buzzing)
00:27 (buzzing)
00:29 (blender whirring)
00:34 So this is the Nike SP Dunk.
00:52 (plastic crinkling)
00:56 And this is a Nike Xs collab.
00:59 (plastic crinkling)
01:02 They feature canvas,
01:04 and leather,
01:08 and rubber.
01:11 (plastic crinkling)
01:23 It's a special collaboration between Nike
01:27 and the Haritos beverage company.
01:29 If you don't know Haritos,
01:31 they make orange soda, tamarind, mandarin.
01:35 And you usually find them where you find tacos.
01:39 They have the Haritos on the back.
01:42 And they have Nike on the back of this one.
01:47 But on the inside, it gets really special.
01:53 (plastic crinkling)
01:56 They have special insoles.
02:00 (plastic crinkling)
02:04 And on the insoles, you have all the flavors of Haritos.
02:14 You also have the Nike SP collab.
02:19 And for you skate geeks out there,
02:22 these have zoom.
02:23 For you sneaker heads out there,
02:30 they even come with extra laces.
02:34 But the really cool thing about these
02:40 is they have a surprise underneath.
02:45 I started making videos on the internet way back in 2013.
02:51 And what I wanted to do was find a way
02:54 to make sneakers acceptable for everyone.
03:01 So I started doing unboxings and reviews,
03:05 and it grew.
03:06 People were interested.
03:08 Sneakers tell so many stories.
03:11 There's so much history for a lot of people.
03:15 They're just shoes.
03:17 But for someone like me, they're art.
03:20 They're design.
03:22 They're storytellers.
03:25 Like this one tells the story of skateboarding through food.
03:30 Who would have thought that something you wear on your feet
03:33 could have such an attachment to the culture?
03:36 The thing that made me focus on sneakers was basketball.
03:42 I loved basketball first,
03:43 but then I started to fall in love with sneakers.
03:47 All of the older guys in my neighborhood
03:49 that I looked up to,
03:51 they always had these super cool shoes.
03:56 And so I wanted those shoes
03:58 so I could do the stuff that they were doing.
04:00 Obviously, it didn't make me dunk
04:02 or make three-pointers like they did,
04:05 but in my mind, when I put on those shoes,
04:09 I was just as cool as the older guys in my neighborhood.
04:13 (sneakers squeaking)
04:16 These are sneaker wipes.
04:21 I made sneaker wipes because I wear sneakers all the time,
04:26 and they get dirty when you wear them all the time.
04:29 So I wanted a way that I could have something
04:32 that I could just throw in my pocket
04:43 and when I need to, whip it out and clean my shoes.
04:46 (sneakers squeaking)
04:52 (sandpaper scraping)
04:56 (sandpaper scraping)
05:00 (sandpaper scraping)
05:03 (sandpaper scraping)
05:07 (sandpaper scraping)
05:16 (sandpaper scraping)
05:26 (sandpaper scraping)
05:29 So one of the really cool things about this shoe
05:46 is that underneath this canvas,
05:49 (sandpaper scraping)
05:52 there is a special material.
05:56 And you can only see it if you skate in the shoes
06:00 and wear it down.
06:01 Since my skateboarding days are over,
06:05 we're gonna take a shortcut.
06:06 (sandpaper scraping)
06:09 (sandpaper scraping)
06:23 (sandpaper scraping)
06:26 So then, you look on the inside,
06:30 you can see there's actually an orange layer underneath.
06:36 Very cool.
06:39 The most expensive sneaker I've ever unboxed
06:44 is the Nike Adapt.
06:47 The retail price was $800.
06:52 Now, a lot of shoes resell for more than that.
06:54 I have shoes that resell for more than that.
06:56 But when it comes to the retail price,
06:58 the most expensive is the Nike Adapt.
07:03 The first one that came out,
07:04 it was made after the shoe from Back to the Future.
07:07 If I had to pick a sport that had the best sneakers,
07:13 the only answer is basketball.
07:18 They wear so many different styles.
07:21 There's players that wear running shoes in the NBA
07:24 to basketball shoes to really whatever you want.
07:29 So NBA definitely takes the cake
07:32 when it comes to the best sneakers.
07:35 (sandpaper scraping)
07:39 (sandpaper scraping)
07:47 (sandpaper scraping)
07:50 I think we'll go with this one.
08:10 Safety first.
08:15 Make sure you have on your safety glasses.
08:17 (sandpaper scraping)
08:35 (sandpaper scraping)
08:38 (sandpaper scraping)
08:41 (sandpaper scraping)
08:44 (sandpaper scraping)
08:47 (sandpaper scraping)
08:50 Now you can really see what's happening
09:17 underneath, so as you skate them,
09:20 this will slowly start to tear away all over their shoe.
09:24 And essentially, you'll have a used but new sneaker.
09:30 I did not know that I was going to work with shoes.
09:39 I didn't know this would be my future.
09:41 I honestly just stumbled upon it
09:44 and got really lucky,
09:47 but I'm happy that sneakers found me
09:51 and I found sneakers and I get to share works of art
09:56 like these with the world.
09:59 When it comes to my holy grails of sneakers,
10:03 mine are all based on memories.
10:06 So for me, it's the Converse Chuck Taylor.
10:09 I grew up in LA and everyone wore Chuck Taylors
10:12 when I was younger.
10:14 So that shoe holds a special place in my heart.
10:16 So I consider that one of my grails
10:18 because it has such a meaning to me.
10:22 The other is the Air Jordan 11, the patent leather.
10:26 I bought my first pair from this girl
10:29 that I had a crush on when I was young.
10:31 She was a friend of one of my older cousins
10:34 and I got to walk in the store with my own money
10:38 and pay for the shoes and she was a cashier.
10:41 And it just made me feel so cool in a sense.
10:45 I thought I was a man in a sense
10:48 'cause I was able to buy shoes from her.
10:50 So that shoe has a special place in my heart.
10:53 And then because I am such a hip hop fan
10:56 and grew up wanting to rap and all those things,
10:59 the Shelter Adidas because of Run DMC
11:02 and the song "My Adidas",
11:04 that shoe always will hold a special place in my heart
11:07 because it is the epitome of a hip hop sneaker in my opinion.
11:12 Part of my job as an unboxer
11:16 or as a YouTuber in the world of sneakers
11:19 is documenting sneaker culture.
11:22 And part of that happens with cameras.
11:25 This is my tool of choice.
11:32 This is the Sony A7S III with 24 to 105.
11:37 (scissors snipping)
11:40 Always keep a lens cap on to protect your glass.
11:47 And just like any tool,
11:54 sometimes you have to put it together.
11:56 This is my tripod plate if I wanna have to use a tripod.
12:06 (plastic clinking)
12:09 Always need to have a fresh battery on deck.
12:15 And sometimes you need to change your lens.
12:32 (plastic clinking)
12:35 And in order for people to hear you,
12:44 you have to use a microphone.
12:50 (plastic clinking)
12:53 (plastic clinking)
12:56 And with that, that is how you show the world
13:09 your sneakers.
13:13 I'm Jacques Slade and thank you for coming
13:20 to my mind massage.
13:22 (silence)
13:24 Awesome, thank you so much and that is a cut.
13:30 (electronic beeping)
