00:00 And that is a fact, I mean, Sam, good on good, you get better on that.
00:05 You know what I'm saying?
00:06 So, I appreciate it.
00:08 >> I appreciate it, man.
00:09 >> You too.
00:10 >> So Kobe, has this lived up to your expectations so far?
00:14 Or exceeded them, or fell short?
00:17 >> No, definitely not fell short, and you know what I'm saying, exceeded them,
00:20 for sure.
00:21 Everything's been going very smoothly.
00:25 I've been learning a lot.
00:27 You know what I'm saying?
00:29 It's all been really good, lifting, everything, you know what I'm saying?
00:34 Technique, all that stuff, practice, everything.
00:37 It's just all been really good.
00:40 >> You're from nearby, so you've been here a lot.
00:43 You kinda slide right in, you know what I mean,
00:45 transition wise from high school to college?
00:48 >> I would say so.
00:49 I feel like it was very smooth a transition.
00:51 I mean, obviously there were some areas I needed to grow in, and
00:55 some things that I didn't know about.
00:58 But I feel like now, I'm just starting to get into a routine of the college life.
01:03 I mean, it's about to get even a little bit harder.
01:05 So that transition is gonna be important just as when I first got here.
01:11 But I feel like it's just gonna all be a learning experience for me.
01:15 >> You're so busy with football.
01:17 Have you gotten a chance to go down to basketball yet?
01:19 >> [LAUGH] I have gotten asked a couple questions about it,
01:22 like if I'm still interested in doing that, you know what I'm saying, by the coaches.
01:25 But I just tell them, I mean, obviously I'm trying to focus on football first for
01:29 me.
01:29 But I feel like whenever everything's calmed down a little bit,
01:33 you know what I'm saying, I got the football thing under control.
01:38 Then we'll probably try to see where I'm at with that.
01:41 >> Okay, you have to stay sharp in basketball, though?
01:44 >> You definitely do, for sure.
01:45 I'm gonna have to try to stay in the gym if that's what I wanna do.
01:47 If that's really what I wanna do, I'll find time to get in the gym and
01:51 put in extra work.
01:52 >> So the real question is, the safety position seems really loaded here.
01:58 The wide receiver position seems like there might be some openings.
02:01 Have you thought about doing both or maybe switching sides of the ball?
02:05 >> I mean, yes, I've thought about doing both.
02:08 I mean, and they have too.
02:09 I mean, I'm saying the coaches, they've talked to me before about it,
02:12 like plan, put a little offense in there.
02:14 So I know what they want from me.
02:17 So right now, I know for a fact they want me to learn this defense.
02:21 So I know that for a fact.
02:23 And then after I get comfortable with that, then it's just throw a little offense in
02:27 there and then we'll appeal from there.
02:29 >> So you're a young guy, freshman, how hard is it to learn this defense?
02:32 >> It's a challenge, but it's been pretty smooth with me cuz I ask a lot of
02:37 questions.
02:38 >> Okay.
02:39 >> It's just the terminology, like the college terminology,
02:42 it's a little different than high school, I'd say.
02:44 But I've been learning a lot and I feel like I'm right there.
02:50 >> What's your goal for this year?
02:52 What's your hope?
02:52 What's your plan for 2023?
02:55 >> My goal is to obviously win a national championship, obviously.
02:57 This team, I think we have a chance to do something really special
03:03 this year and beyond that.
03:06 Obviously, it'd be really cool to play as a freshman.
03:11 That's one of my individual goals is to play as a freshman.
03:15 But in order to do that, I gotta put in the work.
03:18 It's not gonna be given to me just like anything else.
03:21 I don't want it to be given to me, I wanna go earn it.
03:23 >> Yeah. >> That's how it should be.
03:24 So those are kinda like team and individual goals.
03:29 And then obviously I wanna keep my grades up high, you know what I'm saying?
03:32 Gotta keep the school right.
03:33 And then if I do that, everything else will play itself out.
03:36 >> You feel like you have started to earn it in the weight room in the summer?
03:39 Summer with Schmidty?
03:41 >> Yes, for sure.
03:42 Schmidty's helped me in a lot of ways.
03:46 Really not just him, his whole staff.
03:47 They just do everything so fast.
03:51 And it's just good.
03:53 I've gotten faster, I've gotten stronger.
03:55 You know what I'm saying?
03:56 It's just awesome.
03:58 >> Weight gain?
03:59 >> I keep going back and forth for some reason.
04:04 I don't mean, I just sweat a lot.
04:06 That's how my dad is.
04:08 And Schmidty, we run so much, it's kinda hard to put on weight.
04:11 But Coach Valada, he kinda likes where I'm at weight-wise.
04:17 He doesn't want me to put on too much or whatever.
04:19 And then, so it has been pretty good.
04:23 >> Cool, Jacoby, thanks, man.
04:24 >> Sir. >> No sweat.
04:26 >> Jacoby, how are you settling?
