The head coach after the win
Transcript
00:00to see them push through that to get to this point?
00:02I think we've hit some times where we were kind of low.
00:08And I just felt they really look forward to postseason.
00:14And they're very resilient.
00:16And they feel invincible.
00:18And that's the way they play.
00:21You hear their faith has a lot to do with this.
00:24So they're never afraid.
00:25They're not afraid to lose.
00:27This is bigger than a game for them.
00:30It's about life.
00:32It's about trust.
00:33It's about all kinds of things that they've
00:36changed each other's lives with.
00:38And it wasn't easy this season.
00:41I hear them, and I agree.
00:42It's probably the hardest coaching season
00:46that I've had in a while because of a lot of the naysayers,
00:52a lot of, well, I don't know.
00:58It's heavy.
00:59It's just I don't know how to explain how heavy.
01:02And heavy is the head that wears the crown.
01:05It's the one thing that really stuck out
01:07when I heard someone say that.
01:10And that really has felt true.
01:12It's been exhausting.
01:14These players are exhausted.
01:16But they keep going.
01:17And it's the love for each other.
01:19It's a love for the game.
01:20It's a love for the university.
01:22But they're elite athletes who have extreme passion.
01:27That when I first saw these guys throw the bat down
01:32after a walk, I'm like, what are you doing?
01:34Don't do that.
01:35You're showing up the umpire, or you're going to hit somebody.
01:39But we do it.
01:41They do it at practice.
01:42And I've learned to allow them to be who they are.
01:48And the old coach of me would not allow any of this.
01:52But this generation, I've learned to.
01:55They've taught me a lot about coaching.
01:58And they taught me how to accept who they are and how it looks.
02:06And I mean, I think that has a lot
02:09to do with a lot of things, that I just allowed them to be them.
02:13And it's hard sometimes.
02:16Because some of it, I'm like, oh, no.
02:19But it's important to them.
02:22But they've taught me how to coach better.
