Transcript
00:00 To test the coordination and preparedness of the country's airport terminal, the Manila
00:03 International Airport Authority, with other local government and various agencies, gathered
00:08 to conduct a mock accident for the crash emergency exercises as part of the requirements in International
00:14 Civil Aviation Authority.
00:16 Karen Villanda has the full details.
00:19 Firefighters are busy extinguishing the fire from a crashed aircraft in Nina Aquino International
00:26 Airport's runway this morning.
00:29 Helicopters from armed forces of the Philippines and Philippine Coast Guard are also responded
00:34 to carry injured passengers going to nearby hospitals.
00:38 There are also relatives that are waiting for their loved ones.
00:51 These are just some of the scenarios during the crash emergency exercise of Manila International
00:56 Airport Authority together with the local government and agencies today.
01:01 According to Mia, this aims to see the preparation of their personnel during an emergency in
01:07 the airport's runway.
01:08 "In these kinds of incidents, we see that different emergency services are needed.
01:09 In the event that an incident really happens, of course, it can happen in a remote situation,
01:19 there are a lot of uncontrolled scenarios, our airport needs to be prepared.
01:23 Being the primary airport here in the Philippines, that's why we conduct these kind of live exercises
01:29 so that we can assess how the performance of our teams today."
01:35 The exercise is part of the requirement of International Civil Aviation Authority, which
01:40 gained approval from the Airline Operations Council.
01:43 "This is actually so far the best crash and rescue exercise that we ever had.
01:49 The firefighters and the medical group are for security, those are the first things that
01:54 we are looking at being an airline."
01:56 The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines imposed stricter guidelines on operators of
02:01 CESTA planes after one aircraft's recent mishap.
02:05 Just yesterday, the wreckage of CESTA 152 aircraft was found in Sitiumata, the barangay
02:11 Salvation Luna, Apayao, together with the body of a Filipino pilot instructor and an
02:16 Indian student.
02:18 They were supposed to land at the Cawayan Airport in Isabela from Luag International
02:22 Airport.
02:23 "The weather was good when they left.
02:24 Unfortunately, there was a storm for a long time, that's why it happened.
02:25 Secondly, the discharge signal was not received.
02:26 Actually, they were detected by the tower when they woke up and flew off."
02:41 This is the fifth air crash this year, three of which are CESTA planes.
02:46 "All aircraft are CESTA, there is no transconverter.
02:49 It has an ELT, emergency locator transmitter.
02:55 So that is inspected on an annual basis.
02:59 In fact, there is a requirement now to upgrade it because there is a more modern one already.
03:04 It takes time for them to comply but we will make sure that they comply as soon as possible
03:09 so that if there are any accidents or incidents like this, we can easily locate them."
03:15 Investigations at the CESTA Operator, Eco Air International Aviation Academy, Inc.
03:20 have been suspended pending the completion of the investigation.
03:24 Karen Villanda for Denation.
