There is a lot of national weeks celebrating different things but did you know there is one celebrating afternoon tea? During the week it is an opportunity to go through the British tradition of having afternoon tea. So we visited Victors in Newcastle to try their version and see how it is different to the more standard afternoon teas.

00:00 As you can see this is not your average afternoon tea.
00:06 But before we take a bite into the food let's find out a bit more about the restaurant.
00:11 Following their success in places like Oxford and Alderley Edge, Victor's decided to open
00:15 a little bit further up north.
00:18 Victor's opened along Newcastle's Quayside back in July last year and quickly became
00:22 a popular place.
00:24 So I like to think of the Victor's experience as we like to capture all of the senses so
00:29 from as instantly as soon as you walk in you're looking at the beautiful decor from the Wistura
00:34 hanging down the ceiling, you're hit by the smell of the white jasmine as you enter the
00:38 restaurant and then also with the taste and the unique flavours of the dishes that we
00:43 use and the combination of the flavours used together.
00:46 A lot of the cocktails pair with the dishes as well so if you ask your server they'll
00:50 be able to recommend quite a few tasting pairs for you to try.
00:54 And as you can see by this outstanding and beautiful decor it's become one of those go
00:59 to special occasion places so from your baby showers to your hen parties, even stag do's
01:05 as well.
01:06 We've got your birthdays and your anniversaries and graduations non-stop throughout this summer
01:10 as well so it is that special, can be a casual setting for your regular go to place and it
01:16 can be a unique experience to bring all the family together.
01:21 The restaurant offers a modern American Asian inspired menu from a la carte to Sunday lunches
01:26 but of course we were there to try their afternoon tea and we were not expecting what we received.
01:32 After it's huge entrance we tried the afternoon tea.
01:35 With the standard afternoon tea you usually get finger sandwiches and scones but at Victor's
01:40 there is so much more to it.
01:42 The savoury part was filled with a range of brioche finger buns filled with smoked salmon
01:47 and cream cheese, egg and crust with truffle mayonnaise and avocado hummus with feta cheese.
01:53 To keep on theme with the Asian inspired food at Victor's there was also smoked tofu and
01:58 avocado dragon sushi rolls which isn't something you usually see on an afternoon tea.
02:04 Then we tried the sweet section and of course you had the classic scones with cream and
02:08 jam but the selection of sweet treats continued as we had cheesecake, banana cake and even
02:14 mini ice cream cones with yuzu curd.
02:19 So our afternoon tea pulls along with the standard afternoon tea with your scones and
02:24 your cones and your cakes and then we've also added a unique Asian inspired side of it with
02:30 the sushi rolls and the fillings of the brioche rolls as well so you're getting a nice sweet
02:35 and savoury combination of the classics and our own Victor's inspired.
02:42 My favourite part was definitely the smoked salmon brioche finger buns with the cream
02:45 cheese and the little ice cream cones for the sweet side.
02:50 And now having a different kind of afternoon tea I'm not sure I could go back to the standard
02:55 finger sandwiches.
