00:00 I'm just glad to be out here with the whole team and being able to just come
00:04 together for the season and try to get closer, get better.
00:07 >> Have you ever experienced anything like this going away?
00:09 >> I have at Florida, but we didn't actually go to a different site that I
00:14 wasn't familiar with, so I mean it's kind of different, but it's fun too.
00:18 >> We didn't really know what to expect in the wide receiver group and
00:21 they managed to put together a pretty impressive collection of guys.
00:25 It was kind of a pleasant surprise what they've been able to put together.
00:29 >> I mean, not really.
00:30 I mean, the guys that we brought in, we knew we were gonna bring in some guys, but
00:33 the guys we brought in, I kind of knew them pretty well.
00:36 The coach knew them well, so I kind of knew their skill set.
00:38 So I mean, we knew they were gonna come out here and make plays, so
00:41 that's why they're here.
00:43 >> Do you have a hand in any of that?
00:44 Like, were they involved in, hey, maybe look at this guy,
00:48 maybe look at this guy?
00:48 >> Yeah, of course.
00:49 I mean, that's why we got Xavier out here.
00:52 But yeah, I try to, but they wanna see if I'm comfortable with the guy and
00:57 see if there's some guys out there that I wanted.
00:59 So I mean, yeah, there was some conversations about that.
01:01 >> How much does that help the relationship with the coaches,
01:03 that they trust you with those conversations?
01:05 >> I mean, that's all this game is about,
01:07 especially when the coaches put the guys on the field, it's all trust.
01:10 So I mean, if I trust the guys on the field and they trust me,
01:14 I mean, it all gonna work out.
01:16 >> Your impression of this defensive back group,
01:18 they seem like the competition between them and
01:20 the receivers is really heated at some point.
01:22 >> Yeah, I mean, we've been going at it.
01:25 I mean, all offseason, just training together.
01:27 Like even the receivers training with the DB.
01:29 So I mean, we get out here on the field, it's all competition.
01:31 I mean, it was like that in the spring.
01:32 So I mean, even now we got some more guys out here at receiver.
01:35 I mean, it's just, I mean, it's just competitive all day.
01:38 >> You know Jordan, those guys, they get kind of chatty with you when they stop
01:42 you or vice versa.
01:43 >> Yeah, but he ain't got me yet, so it's all right.
01:45 I ain't gonna say he ain't got me.
01:47 [LAUGH] >> What's the biggest thing you've
01:49 been trying to work on over the past few months and months before?
01:52 >> Probably just becoming more vocal here.
01:55 Just getting more comfortable with the offense.
01:59 And I mean, now that I feel like he's mine, just coming out here,
02:03 being dominant, being in command of the offense,
02:06 and just being intentional with everything I do.
02:08 >> You were in the pocket a lot last year.
02:10 Does it feel kind of good to let the legs loose a little bit?
02:12 You had the big long run today out there.
02:15 >> Yeah, definitely.
02:16 I mean, just getting back in the flow of running,
02:18 just trying to make plays with my legs.
02:20 I mean, it's always fun for me.
02:22 So I mean, just whatever the defense give me, that's what I have to go do.
02:25 >> Like riding a bike?
02:26 >> Yeah, definitely.
02:27 I mean, we run all the time, you know what I mean?
02:31 But no, it's fun out there.
02:33 Like taking off sometimes, those guys trying to get me always,
02:35 tell me I'm not a tackle, you know what I mean?
02:38 But it is what it is.
02:40 >> How's things in line early?
02:41 It looked well today.
02:43 Obviously, just talk about what you've seen from them throughout camp a little bit.
02:46 >> Yeah, I mean, they've been working hard all season, all summer.
02:50 Just getting the play, but we got some new guys in.
02:52 So just, I mean, just getting comfortable with the whole line.
02:55 They all work together.
02:57 So just, I mean, them just doing their job and
03:00 maybe doing a great job, Coach Caldwell being, getting them right.
03:03 So I mean, I feel real comfortable about them.
03:05 >> Seems like you and D Wiggins have had a good connection from day one.
03:08 What stands out to you about him?
03:09 >> Just his, I mean, he's long, but he know how to, he's under control.
03:15 I really under control.
03:16 He's real predictable, like for the quarterback of where he's gonna be.
03:18 So I say he's just quarterback friendly.
03:21 >> What brings you to what he's been able to do?
03:23 >> I mean, he's electric, electric.
03:25 I mean, he can do anything on the field.
03:27 He can run deep routes.
03:31 I mean, he like get open in the middle of the field.
03:32 I mean, he's a guy that got a lot of experience.
03:35 You know what I mean?
03:35 So it's always great to have guys like that.
03:37 >> Kind of like having an outside guy that's just like also trapped as an inside guy.
03:42 >> Right. >> Smaller.
03:43 >> Yeah, exactly.
03:44 But you know what I mean?
03:45 I'm looking in the field.
03:46 I'm in the middle of the field most of the time.
03:47 So that's the guy that's there most of the time.
03:49 So I mean, just me and him, we got a great connection.
03:53 >> How would you rate that catch he made today between two defenders?
03:57 >> Ten.
03:58 No, he made me look good.
03:59 I probably could have threw it a little bit more behind him.
04:01 But that's their job to come out here, make me look better, so.
04:04 >> I hear in the middle of nowhere, do you play them to take advantage of the space,
04:08 the time that you have to try and go through that chemistry with them?
04:10 >> Yeah, I mean, that's why we out here.
04:12 We come out here to just come closer as a team.
04:15 The closer team, they always end up winning.
04:17 So I mean, that's why we out here.
04:19 Just trying to get better, find different ways to learn about all the new coaches and
04:25 new players, so it's fun.
04:27 >> Who's your favorite teammate?
04:29 >> Talk to me.
04:29 >> Who's your favorite teammate?
04:30 >> Favorite teammate?
04:31 >> [INAUDIBLE]
04:36 >> Lee Van.
04:37 Lee Van, for sure, for sure.
04:39 >> Does it take time to get your tendencies of your scrambling,
04:44 the things that you're off the line of learning,
04:47 like where you're gonna be in the pocket, tight run, does that kind of take time?
04:51 Or is it more of a natural thing?
04:54 >> It takes time and practice, cuz it's harder than practice.
04:56 So of course, I'm just trying to throw the ball.
04:59 I know I can't get hit, so I'm trying to throw the ball.
05:01 But then I also gotta play it a little realistic and
05:06 try to get out when I know sometimes in the game it'll be realistic.
05:09 And I'll probably get hit where I really gotta take off, you know what I mean?
05:11 But it's kinda hard though, because I can't get hit.
05:14 So it's just finding the right time.
05:18 >> How much have you leaned on guys like Malik who have been here a long time,
05:21 but just get acclimated to the coaching?
05:23 >> Yeah, that's the guy I actually knew before I came here.
05:26 We both was talking to Ohio State coming out of high school.
05:30 So just knowing him, and we actually were both team captains for
05:36 our crews in off season.
05:37 So just being with him and just having to lead with him and lead other guys.
05:41 He helped me out a lot, just learning more about Cincinnati in general.
05:46 I mean, even high ground, just a guy that has been here, been around,
05:50 he just knows everything about this place.
05:53 >> One more for Emory.
05:54 We good?
