00:03 Mommy and baby bonding.
00:05 This is the fulfilling experience of breastfeeding.
00:08 I really want to breastfeed.
00:11 That's my goal.
00:12 But even though it's satisfying for the mommies,
00:15 breastfeeding is really challenging.
00:18 It's really painful.
00:20 Like, your baby is breastfeeding and it's your first time to feel that feeling.
00:25 Some mommies have experienced nausea, bleeding, and breastfeeding.
00:32 I really cry because it's so painful.
00:34 I really hold my clothes so it won't stick to my breast.
00:38 Breastfeeding is scary at first,
00:42 but it's worth it.
00:44 Not only for the baby, but also for the mommy.
00:47 So, this National Breastfeeding Awareness Month,
00:50 let's know the benefits of it.
00:52 And also the sacrifices of our breastfeeding moms.
00:56 The first-time mom, Vibel, is excited about her breastfeeding.
01:02 Just a few days after I gave birth, I got an electric pump
01:05 because I want to have more breasts for my baby
01:10 because she's only having a few.
01:12 The benefits of breastfeeding are guaranteed,
01:16 according to Dr. Carla, an obstetrician-gynecologist.
01:20 Because breast milk has more important antibodies or nutrition for the baby.
01:27 Not only for the baby, but also for the mommy.
01:31 The recovery of the mom is faster when she breastfeeds.
01:36 Because she has a reflex,
01:38 so when she breastfeeds, the mother's mattress contracts,
01:42 so her bleeding won't be strong.
01:44 She also recovers to her usual shape faster.
01:48 No wonder, it's a superpower.
01:51 It helps her immune system to be healthier,
01:55 so it won't get sick.
01:58 But with great power comes great responsibility.
02:02 I thought breastfeeding is easy,
02:06 you just have to dedicate your baby.
02:09 But my journey was challenging.
02:12 Vibel experienced latch pain first.
02:16 I don't feel anything else,
02:19 except my breast hurts.
02:21 Latch pain is common in first-time moms.
02:25 So the first time breastfeeding is the first time for the mom.
02:29 Her nipples are not yet thin.
02:31 So when the baby sucks,
02:34 especially if the milk is small,
02:36 the baby's suckling reflex gets stronger.
02:39 She also experienced cracked nipples.
02:42 It's in the early stages of breastfeeding and nipples.
02:46 My OB said to pump the baby,
02:49 so I tried to pump, but nothing came out.
02:52 I was about to pass out.
02:54 I saw my breast, it was already injured.
02:56 Because the nipples of a woman have ducts,
02:59 those are the places where breast milk passes through.
03:02 When the ducts are damaged,
03:06 it can cause mastitis or nipples swelling.
03:10 A few days ago,
03:12 the doctor confirmed that Vibel is suffering from mastitis.
03:17 Mastitis is noticed by the mother when she goes to the doctor.
03:22 "Doc, my nipple hurts so much.
03:24 It's swelling, it's too heavy, the milk can't come out."
03:28 These are the usual symptoms of mastitis.
03:32 The solution for this is to pump or express breast milk every 2 hours.
03:39 If you express breast milk regularly,
03:42 there will be no engorgement and no mastitis.
03:45 But in Vibel's case,
03:48 I'm sweating because I'm breastfeeding.
03:51 After 2 hours, I should pump.
03:54 That's what I can't do.
03:56 Until it clogged.
03:58 Vibel had to undergo minor surgery
04:02 to drain the milk that was collected and what's heavier.
04:06 I stopped breastfeeding.
04:09 My parents don't want me to do it because they're afraid of my safety.
04:13 Vibel is still suffering from mastitis.
04:18 So she was forced to rely on milk formula.
04:22 Breast milk has more important antibodies or nutrition for the baby.
04:28 Milk formula just copies the contents of breast milk.
04:35 I stopped breastfeeding.
04:37 There was a time when she was looking for my breast.
04:40 She was crying.
04:42 When I put her on a bottle, she didn't want to drink it.
04:45 It was painful for me.
04:47 I wanted to breastfeed my baby with breast milk,
04:51 which is healthy for her, for me, and for her.
04:56 Meanwhile, for those who have an oversupply of breast milk,
05:00 Doc's advice is...
05:02 If you have an oversupply of leaking milk,
05:07 for example, if the baby is full,
05:09 you can express it and put it in a bottle and put it in the freezer.
05:13 Or you can donate it.
05:15 To help with milk production, Doc Carla's advice is...
05:19 Before giving birth, she has to think about it.
05:22 She has to psychologize herself that it's good to breastfeed.
05:27 There are many benefits for the baby,
05:29 like their bonding, being healthy, and very nutritious.
05:33 As a first-time mother, Vibel has learned.
05:38 You need to have the proper knowledge
05:40 so that you know what is right and what is not to be done when breastfeeding.
05:46 And like my case, my knowledge about breastfeeding was not enough.
05:51 So I also had a bad experience.
05:57 Another blessing for those who are ready to make sacrifices
06:01 to give our children the right and complete nutrition.
